Thought I would start a new thread as its likely to fill up quick now.

So here we are after many months of applications, assessments and interviews. The wait is finally over for those with DC who have applied to Oxford. Those with Cambridge applicants have another 2 weeks to wait until the 25th Jan (bummer!!)

You have all been a lovely bunch to share this journey with and I wish your dc nothing but the BEST OF LUCK for tomorrow (and the 25th). Flowers

Totally do get that! And I wouldn't have said what I said to you to her xx

SandyBayley · 11/01/2022 10:58

But not from the college where fun goes to die 😉 DS1 will be pleased as he quite likes the college she's been offered.

And the offer is 766 in her HLs. No specification of what subject the 7 is in.

JulesJules · 11/01/2022 10:58

@SandyBayley

SHE GOT AN OFFER!!!!
Sandyyyyyy!! Congratulations!!
SandyBayley · 11/01/2022 10:59

My grandparents (working class Black Country types) wound be so proud to have two great grandchildren at Oxford. I wish they were here today.

MFLMum2021 · 11/01/2022 11:00

Congrats @SandyBayley, that’s a huge achievement!

goodbyestranger · 11/01/2022 11:00

Very well done to her Sandy :) It's a great place to do that particular degree - six years/ what's not to like? Is she going to be next door to big brother or further away? Excellent news.

Juja · 11/01/2022 11:01

@SandyBayley Many congratulations - wonderful news to you and your DD

goodbyestranger · 11/01/2022 11:01

Ah I see she avoided Merton very neatly. Double congrats!

goodbyestranger · 11/01/2022 11:06

Sandy I always think of how completely thrilled my own father - a Polish refugee who loved Oxford - would have been to see my DC at Oxford. I think a bit confused by no-one opting for Maths or Physics but yes.... completely thrilled, if puzzled about subject choice. At least he's had two who operate/d out of the science area!

Panicmode1 · 11/01/2022 11:08

Yay @SandyBayley and @pantjog and @SirVixofVixHall...and to everyone who I'm sure I've missed (am supposed to be working!). Am so thrilled for your DCs.

And huge commiserations to those who have been disappointed. It will hurt today, but as those of us who are Oxbridge rejects have repeatedly said, there is life beyond these two unis and lots of us who went to other great universities turned out OK 😉

SeasonFinale · 11/01/2022 11:08

So exciting to hear all your news especially Sandy Jr.

pantjog · 11/01/2022 11:10

Fab news @SandyBayley!

As for the reactions of relatives… I think my dear deceased FIL would now agree that home educating wasn’t such a disaster after all!

bendmeoverbackwards · 11/01/2022 11:11

@Theamazingshrinkingwoman I’m so sorry to hear. Dd was rejected this time last year, I remember the feeling vividly. How has she taken it?

Horace123 · 11/01/2022 11:11

Not to be outdone by @SandyBayley - HE GOT AN OFFER!!! Also not from the college where fun goes to die (which is where he applied for). But he really likes the college he got (which was his 2nd of his 3 interviews).

So can confirm - being pooled is not kiss of death. And you don't need Greek even if your school offers it!

I know it makes no sense but as soon as @ProggyMat said her DD got an offer I felt more confident.

ealingwestmum · 11/01/2022 11:11

Super news for those with offers so far; Sandy, pantjog, SirVix, Whatsinaname, well done to all your DC.

Hear's to alternative great options for Theamazingshrinkingwoman, Gottasinggottadance DC, sorry to hear today was a no.

goodbyestranger · 11/01/2022 11:13

There was a caveat to that about Greek Horace - and very well done. Which college?

ealingwestmum · 11/01/2022 11:14

Brilliant Horace, hooray for the classics guys Smile

ProggyMat · 11/01/2022 11:16

@SandyBayley congratulations to your DD!
@Horace123 Whoop! the Oxford duo stay in sync! Well done to your DS!
Congratulations to all with offers!
Commiserations to those that have been redirected

SandyBayley · 11/01/2022 11:20

@Horace123 - hurray! I didn't realise we were destined to cross paths at Merton! Would have been kind of apt if it had happened 😂

DD hasn't returned home yet so not sure what the news from school is yet.

Horace123 · 11/01/2022 11:20

@goodbyestranger - Yes, I know there was a caveat - sorry it wasn't a dig at you. I have just been obsessing about the Greek thing although DS's teacher did say most (not all) colleges wouldn't worry about it as they make subject decisions for that when they are 12/13 years old and would be weird to hold it against them. I am so exciting I may give up on pretending to work very soon.

Horace123 · 11/01/2022 11:21

@SandyBayley How did the other 2 medicine hopefuls do?

Congrats all with offers and commiserations to those with rejections . A foot in both camps here - one twin got an offer and the other a rejection. 😬

SandyBayley · 11/01/2022 11:30

@Thisisconfusing - that is difficult. I can't imagine how to deal with that.

ealingwestmum · 11/01/2022 11:31

oh Thisisconfusing, congrats and commiserations in equal measures to your DC!
