Thought I would start a new thread as its likely to fill up quick now.

So here we are after many months of applications, assessments and interviews. The wait is finally over for those with DC who have applied to Oxford. Those with Cambridge applicants have another 2 weeks to wait until the 25th Jan (bummer!!)

You have all been a lovely bunch to share this journey with and I wish your dc nothing but the BEST OF LUCK for tomorrow (and the 25th). Flowers

@cosmiccat sounds great! She may decide that she doesn't want to attend the SSP webinars live if she already has a lot of support, but I would encourage her to sign up anyway (when the invite eventually arrives) as that would give her access to recordings.

It's not unusual for the focus to now be on STEP! Some colleges don't mind which the third A level, others have a preference (back in the dark ages my Economics A-level didn't count). Do check any insurance offer carefully though Smile

heinztomatosoup · 26/01/2022 09:35

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango, so feel for you, fingers crossed for your DD it is sorted v soon. Really hoping she will be joining mine on HSPS!!!

@CurlyhairedAssassin we loved Churchill on our covid tour, huge grounds, amazing gym, and very good reputation for sciences. Also the head porter was so passionate about the place we were there for ages!

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 26/01/2022 09:35

I think the email must have got lost in cyber space as Clare forwarded it again this morning and it was a no for DD. It stings a little to see your DC rejected but I know I one of so many parents feeling the same.

She has taken it fine and we are just relieved to know one way or the other to now be able to draw a line under it and move on. I have to say I have found the process pretty stressful and am glad its over! You lot have been such a lovely support and I will make my way over to join the noes thread Smile

Oh no, I'm so sorry @Tango. I had everything crossed overnight....that seems doubly unfair 😔

Panicmode1 · 26/01/2022 09:42

@storminau having looked at it overnight, I'm surprised he's still prevaricating!

Very very sorry to hear @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango. What an ordeal.

ladygrinningsoul · 26/01/2022 09:47

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango so sorry, how awful to have to wait so long then get bad news

fishingeagle · 26/01/2022 09:48

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango I'm so sorry it wasn't the news you were hoping for. You must both be exhausted. Look forward to seeing you on the other thread.

SirVixofVixHall · 26/01/2022 09:57

I am sorry Tango, your dd sounds very mature to have taken it well after this lengthy wait.

heinztomatosoup · 26/01/2022 09:57

So sorry @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango, and having to go through the tortuous wait 😢 Your DD sounds like quite a character and I'm sure will be successful wherever she goes. All the best to her.

Thanks for maintaining this thread, it's been a godsend to share the experience with others in the same position, which has been, as you say, a very stressful process.

HoneyMobster · 26/01/2022 09:58

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango - really sorry to hear that. I was so hoping it would be good news after all the palaver you had yesterday. ☹️

MFLMum2022 · 26/01/2022 09:59

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango, so sorry to hear that.

quest1on2 · 26/01/2022 10:01

So sorry to hear this Tango. What an ordeal for you both. Good luck to your DD and onwards and upwards now with her other choices which will be just as fantastic.

Pallando · 26/01/2022 10:09

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango so sorry to hear that, especially after your DD's long wait.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 26/01/2022 10:22

Thank you all so very much. I am an anxious type and I swear this process has taken up way more brain space than it should so I now need focus on the future for DD and my equally lovely DS who will applying next year (thank god not to Oxbridge as I could not cope with that!!) DD is a lovely lovely girl, feisty, compassionate and a real grafter - she will be fine I just know it. Wishing all of your successful Oxbridge applicants the very very best for their futures and thanks for all of the hand holding.

It’s time for me to bow out of this thread now.

Commiserations to all the other DC that didn’t gain a place. Good luck getting the grades to the DC who did.

And thank you @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango for setting up these threads!

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 26/01/2022 11:07

I'm really sorry it was a no after your long wait. I am sure your DD will do amazingly well wherever she goes. Thank you so much for these threads. Having been to Oxford myself, I thought I would find the process straightforward, but it's a different kettle of fish when it's your first baby involved!

ACloseMatch · 26/01/2022 11:07

Oh @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango I am so sorry. I was so invested in your DDs outcome I am as disappointed as I am for my own DD. She sounds awesome and I'm sure will do well in Bath, or wherever she eventually plumps for.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 26/01/2022 11:12

Thank you all so much and yes its been pretty bloody stressful I am so glad its done now!

I am bowing out too and deflecting to the rejects side Grin

Lots and lots of good wishes for all our fab dc wherever they end up and whichever path they choose they will do well with us Mums behind them Flowers

Storminamu · 26/01/2022 11:30

Sorry to hear your news - Tango.
An interesting thing about Churchill. We visited Cambridge before the application deadline to look at a few colleges. We asked 2 students from different colleges which college they would like to be at if not their own college. Both said Churchill!

Chilldonaldchill · 26/01/2022 11:31

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango so sorry to hear that.

Notonetojudge · 26/01/2022 11:34

Sorry to see you and others go OP, this has been a real rollercoaster and I’ve been totally over invested in the lives of families I’ll never meet.
Maybe our dc will though, over the next few years.

In other news, ds1 passed his driving test this morning and he can’t bloody drive! I’m now going to be terrified every time he leaves the house. He’s talking about driving down to the south of France this summer Shock
This is worse than A Levels or Oxbridge applications. How do others deal with it?

Storminamu · 26/01/2022 11:34

Good luck to everyone still standing on making their offers - which for some of our DCs may be the toughest part of the process. I definitely feel that the pressure has gone up a few notches, as DC becomes more invested.
