Thought I would start a new thread as its likely to fill up quick now.

So here we are after many months of applications, assessments and interviews. The wait is finally over for those with DC who have applied to Oxford. Those with Cambridge applicants have another 2 weeks to wait until the 25th Jan (bummer!!)

You have all been a lovely bunch to share this journey with and I wish your dc nothing but the BEST OF LUCK for tomorrow (and the 25th). Flowers

@Notonetojudge it's terrifying isn't it!! We built up slowly with solo local drives then gradually further afield. I made her text me when she arrived for weeks 🤦‍♀️ much more relaxed now 😄

petitebleu · 26/01/2022 12:22

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango. Good luck to your DD in wherever she decides to go and a huge thank you to you for this thread.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 26/01/2022 13:02

Aaaah, so sorry to hear that it was a no for your DD, @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango. I was thinking of you both at work this morning wondering if you'd had news. Thankyou for starting the thread and good luck to DD in the next stage of her education.

MFLMum2022 · 26/01/2022 13:29

@Storminamu, yes, making the offer is definitely going to be stressful here too.

We’re nearly at the end of this thread. Any volunteers for starting the next one?

PermanentTemporary · 26/01/2022 13:44

Ah I'm really sorry about that Tango but tbh after putting you through that, clare doesn't deserve your dd!! Hope the next step is super positive.

Panicmode1 · 26/01/2022 13:46

@Storminamu

Good luck to everyone still standing on making their offers - which for some of our DCs may be the toughest part of the process. I definitely feel that the pressure has gone up a few notches, as DC becomes more invested.
For sure...family have been saying "yay, he's going to Cambridge," and I've been saying "As long as he gets the grades, it's not a done deal yet"!

I think he was hoping the offer would be A in maths and physics with As in FM and DT. They want the A in FM (and physics) which he can do, but it's less certain than an A* in maths!!

Decafcoffee · 26/01/2022 14:03

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango so sorry Clare messed your dd so much and it was a no!

@Panicmode1 have you already got the offer details?

Panicmode1 · 26/01/2022 14:03

Yes, he got it mid morning.

kitnkaboodle · 26/01/2022 14:16

Jeez @Panicmode1 I've just seen the details of your DS's engineering offer Confused. They're specifying A further maths, A physics and A maths?? I had no idea it could be that specific. Thought it would be a general A A A, which I think is their stated requirements. Cripes. I daren't ask DS if he's looked at his yet ...

HoneyMobster · 26/01/2022 14:52

That's tough. And to get an A star in FM you'd be unlikely to get anything less than an A star in Maths.

kitnkaboodle · 26/01/2022 14:53

Exactly! Seems very punishing...

HoneyMobster · 26/01/2022 14:56

I'll start a new thread. Bit sad that we've lost so many friends on this one ☹️

HoneyMobster · 26/01/2022 14:59

I don't know how to link but it's there..,

Thanks @HoneyMobster, link above.

PermanentTemporary · 26/01/2022 15:05

I can make a thread for 'Oxbridge process survivors' - it seems like it should still be specifically named at the moment in case people want to avoid it??

PermanentTemporary · 26/01/2022 15:05

Oh very relieved someone else has done it!

Panicmode1 · 26/01/2022 15:45

@kitnkaboodle and @HoneyMobster - I think he was a bit taken aback - he was hoping for A* in maths and physics, and an A in FM. He thinks it could be because he was pooled rather than it coming from his first choice college, so it's a higher than usual offer?

Needmoresleep · 26/01/2022 15:49

Not really. A for FM seems fairly standard. And as someone else pointed out if you get that you almost automatically get an A in Maths.

Cambridge offers have varied in the past. DC knew several who were asked for 4xA including FM, but that was for pupils from selective London private schools who might be considered educationally advantaged. I don't think I have heard of anyone being asked for less than A in FM. The same applies to some degrees at Imperial.

Panicmode1 · 26/01/2022 16:18

@needmoresleep - his Imperial offer is A AA with the A in physics!

Needmoresleep · 26/01/2022 16:24

Imperial, at least in the past, seemed to make quite a wide range of offers, even to pupils from the same school applying for the same course. A*AA suggests they think he is good!

LetsGoParty · 26/01/2022 16:45

None of my kids went to Oxford or Cambridge and having read the thread I think I'm glad. They would have been ok but I think I'd have been too stressed out as so many of you appear to have been. I think it's really bad to be over involved in your kids lives but I can't help it it even though I an extremely careful not to let my kids know 😅
One of the kids that didn't get in on TSR was disappointed for his Mum as she had put so much work in 😂😂😂😂. Oh dear!

There is something so magical about both places.

Storminamu · 26/01/2022 16:59

They're both very beautiful places, but I worry a little about the other -worldliness of it - fiddling as Rome burns? And there is a lot of privilege. DC1 says they only know one person who is not clearly vastly richer than we are.

HoneyMobster · 26/01/2022 17:14

And we're full up. New thread here...
