Your DD is being brave @RampantIvy!
Happy 21st to your DD @Benjispruce4

DS is going back on Friday Grin

Benjispruce4 · 26/09/2021 19:32

Thanks! @bigTillyMint did your DS go to Brighton in August?

bigTillyMint · 26/09/2021 19:41

🤔 I think so! He certainly has a good mate who is from there. Did your DD go too?

Benjispruce4 · 26/09/2021 22:05

Yes! I think they might be friends!Grin

bigTillyMint · 27/09/2021 06:40

😄

bigTillyMint · 27/09/2021 06:42

Did your DD go to a 21st party last weekend @Benjispruce4?

blametheparents · 27/09/2021 11:23

Imagine the embarassment!

Benjispruce4 · 27/09/2021 19:47

Oh how funny! Grin

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 01/10/2021 08:30

I think that's fantastic @bigTillyMint and @Benjispruce3. I guess if you're liked-minded parents who post on MN, it's likely your DC may have a lot in common (or the same outlook on life) too?

Benjispruce4 · 02/10/2021 10:38

@bigTillyMint We have shared our DC’s initials in the past and so I presume you have heard the very sad news that one of the wider friendship group tragically died on Thursday night. So very sad.

Shimy · 02/10/2021 11:22

Fell off this thread completely. Glad to be back!
Is anyone’s dc doing their placement yr? Just wanted to know how others are finding it. Ds1 seems to be finding his groove at work and not the least, socially too. Infact he’s had more social outings than he’s had in the last 2yrs at uni.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 02/10/2021 11:31

Really sorry to hear that sad news @Benjispruce4.

Glad you're back @Shimy. No, DS not doing a placement year (although I wish he was as he seems no closer to knowing what he will do after graduation at the moment). Good to hear that your DS is doing well and having a good social life too. They really do deserve it.

bigTillyMint · 02/10/2021 11:43

Oh god, no @Benjispruce4 how awful Sad
We didn’t see DS yday before he left (and he can be a bit useless with keeping in touch with all his mates), and haven’t had a chat with him yet.

Benjispruce4 · 02/10/2021 11:51

Yes, I’m mindful that this is a public forum and my deepest sympathies go to his family and friends. I understand he had some kind of epileptic fit.Sad

bigTillyMint · 02/10/2021 11:57

Oh gosh, that’s so sad. My deepest sympathies to his family too Sad

RampantIvy · 02/10/2021 18:35

Goodness @Benjispruce4, that's awful. His poor family.
One of DD's closest friends has epilepsy and, worryingly, her seizures have increased. It's such a worry when our DC aren't perfectly healthy.

We saw DD fleetingly when she came home last night for one night en route to Blackpool for the weekend. Fortunately the antibiotics have dealt with her infection. She was full of all her socialising escapades. I hope they continue. All her lectures have been F2F so far. Oddly, it is her seminars that are done via Zoom.

Ragwort · 03/10/2021 08:35

Sorry to hear that very sad news Benji.

Shimy my DS is doing his placement year, only been in his job for two weeks (a real challenge to find something) but so far he seems to be thoroughly enjoying it, he's had to move to the other side of the country but has joined a rugby club and seems happy. He's working in a very small branch so only 5 of them & not sure there is much social life but he's working very long hours (45 hour contract) and by the time he's found diesel Grin & got to work for 8am he seems happy to be in bed by 10pm!
My DH is combining a work trip with visiting him this weekend so it will be nice for them to meet up.

Shimy · 03/10/2021 09:06

Rag it’s so nice to know they’re enjoying isn’t? DS started back in July though. Relocating to yet a different town and new flat mates is something I was slightly worried about but he’s taken to it like a duck to water. Ds’s placement has a large placement group spread over various teams and they’re all living together in groups. The company has been good and arranged outings for them all together to get to know each other and my extremely introverted DS has started making friends and last week him & his flatmates went to a club! I nearly died.
Hope your DS & DH have a nice time catching up.

RoastedBeans · 06/10/2021 14:09

@Benjispruce4 I'm so sorry to read that. How terrible for family and friends. Flowers

I've found you all (I'm the constant name changer but have been here from the start). I think I may stick to this name now if I don't mess up (big 'if!).

DC1 thinking about going straight onto a PhD next if she can. Is anyone else's DC (rather than masters first)?

I was so nervous when she started but if I knew then what I know now about the pandemic I would have been a wreck!

Is anyone looking at universities for their DC starting 2022 and if so, is there a nice thread they could point me to?

Again Flowers to Benji's DC and friends.
