Thank you. Although, right now DD is waiting to see if she has a negative test result after coming into contact with covid positive students (again Sad)

icanbewhatiwant · 20/06/2021 09:23

@RampantIvy Ds was invited via university. He booked that way. Though if he'd waited a few days he could have booked online. Then could have booked both. But through university he could only book one.

VanCleefArpels · 20/06/2021 20:19

Thanks for new thread. DD jabbed today at huge walk in set up aimed at students in her City. V well organised, such a relief all round. She’ll book her second jab closer to home but still look out for any walk ins to get the job finished.

VanCleefArpels · 20/06/2021 20:24

I know in Scotland (inexplicably) there’s no online booking, everyone has to wait to be invited, and there’s concern that there’s not enough Pfizer for the young precisely because in England they are opening up football stadiums to get as many young jabbed as possible. Mind boggling.

RampantIvy · 20/06/2021 20:24

DD and her household are negative thank goodness. I have asked her not to see anyone other than her household for the next week as we are going on holiday for when I collect her. At least 3 other mums are going up to help clean as well.

Zandathepanda · 20/06/2021 22:58

Rampant thank goodness. Dd nearly finished isolation. Still negative.

simbobs · 20/06/2021 23:16

Found you all! Condolences to @bigTillyMint. Hard enough to lose a parent without having to worry about restrictions and testing as well.

Both my DC getting their 1st jabs on Thursday. DS having his close to home but DD in uni city. Both booked through NHS, but DS will have his 2nd four weeks before his sister. Mind you, he may be back in his uni city by then and have to change it to there. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Two of DS's friends have just tested positive, DS hasn't, though he has seen both recently. The sooner this cohort is vaccinated the better.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/06/2021 06:38

@Zandathepanda glad to hear your DD has nearly finished isolating.

Good to hear that so many of your DC are getting their first dose of vaccine. DS went to get his yesterday and had to wait two hours in a queue. Think possibly the big walk-in centres probably work well for students.

I wonder if my DD is the only student in the country never to have had to isolate?!?!?

bengalcat · 21/06/2021 07:02

Mines booked hers - first one at Uni and second when back home hurrah . She had Covid last Autumn so am pleased whether antibodies still there or not this will give her immune system a nudge . Hopefully she won’t feel like s**t afterwards .

Ragwort · 21/06/2021 09:03

VanCleef no, my DS has never had to self-isolate either.

icanbewhatiwant · 21/06/2021 10:45

@VanCleefArpels Ds hasn't had to isolate at university. None of his friends or friend groups at university have had covid. He has a non uni friend that tested positive after a holiday to Greece though, Ds had been near his brother and decided to isolate. But he didn't officially need to isolate as the brother was negative. Ds just thought it was sensible until the brothers test came back.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/06/2021 11:00

@VanCleefArpels DS hasn't but there again he's probably the only student in the country not using the T&T app or to have done an LFT at the very least!

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 he would have been contacted by test and trace if he had been a close contact of anyone with Covid. Turns out I spoke too soon in that my eldest (non student) contacted me this morning to say someone he was out with on Saturday has Covid, I spent most of yesterday with them but I’ve been double jabbed so here’s hoping…….

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/06/2021 12:55

I guess so!

Oh no. Fingers crossed for you.

DD hasn’t had to isolate either.

BrumCahoots · 21/06/2021 16:34

DS got his vaccine yesterday and has second one booked at beginning of September when he will be home . Picking him up on Saturday !

BrumCahoots · 21/06/2021 16:35

I'm going nuts .. I already posted this on Friday !!! It's my age !

bigTillyMint · 21/06/2021 19:17

@Benjispruce3 that’s lucky given where she lives!
DS is very tempted to go back as his housemates is out of isolation tomorrow, but he's thinking it’s too risky given that it’s 10 days to the funeral.

Benjispruce3 · 21/06/2021 20:04

Yes luckily her house and another house that she socialises with are all clear. One housemate was posit it was living with her boyfriend so she hadn’t seen her for a week prior. Big sighs of relief there. They all think they had it last March so I’m wondering if they have antibodies as the positive housemate went home early last March.

Benjispruce3 · 21/06/2021 20:05

That does sound risky @bigTillyMint.

Benjispruce3 · 21/06/2021 20:06

The Complete University Guide have released their 2022 rankings. DD's university has slipped down 14 places Shock

There has been a lot more movement this year, and some big surprises. I wonder if it is a reflection on how well the universities are dealing with the pandemic.

Zandathepanda · 21/06/2021 23:13

Rampant I am always a bit sceptical of those ratings. The Guardian one is particularly weird. I think things like Student satisfaction can be easily manipulated and marketing teams can manipulate other stuff. I used to do quite a bit of working with schools and how they manipulated their data for parents was interesting.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/06/2021 06:40

Yes, something awry in the way the university league tables are put together that a university can jump or drop so many places in a year! It always surprises me that Oxford regularly beats Cambridge when the latter is top ranked for 32 subjects in the UK and Oxford just six. How does that work?
