@bigTillyMint thanks. I think just choosing 6 for the final list is going to be a big task for ds. He hasn't a clue what to do the dissertation on. I'm really no help at all.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 16/09/2021 18:34

I guess it depends whether your DS is an early bird or a last-minute Larry, @icanbewhatiwant.

I think I'd got mine just about finished by just after Christmas but won't mention that I nearly lost the completed article in a suitcase I left on the train

icanbewhatiwant · 16/09/2021 18:44

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 ha ha. Not sure about ds1 but Ds2 is definitely last minute Larry. He will be printing off homework when he should have left for school 😂

minesawine · 17/09/2021 10:25

DD safely delivered to NTU, I cant believe its his final year. Time has just flown by so quickly. My DD starts her first year in Portsmouth next Friday and I'm dreading it. It definitely doesn't get any easier, but I think next Saturday I will wake up and either think this is the life, no children - Yay! or its too quiet and I want my babies back Smile

BrumCahoots · 17/09/2021 11:03

Off to Nottingham tomorrow to deliver the boy !! .. can't believe it's their last year ! Guessing we feel better than we did 2 years ago !!! ...

BrumCahoots · 17/09/2021 12:02

@blametheparents .. I'm a bit late with any advice re 21st birthday presents ! My DS is 21 tomorrow and it's the day he's going back ! .. going out tonight for a family dinner .. he just wanted money .. I came up
with ideas but he didn't want any of them ! Watches don't seem to be a thing anymore .. or wallets or pens ! I'm going to get him something like that when he graduates maybe . I feel bad he's going back on his birthday but he's bored here now even though he's had a job, and would probably rather see friends tomorrow night anyway !!

VanCleefArpels · 17/09/2021 12:48

Re 21st presents - personalised number plate if they have a car is something that they can keep for ever (like the watches our generation had in the dark ages!)

RampantIvy · 17/09/2021 13:47

Result!
After going round in circles and being passed from pillar to post I went to the vaccination centre with printouts of DD's vaccination card and a screenshot from her NHS app. They were really helpful and amended her details on a laptop while I watched.

The system has updated and now her app is correct.

DD got a new phone for her 21st as her old one kept overheating, and the battery ran down too quickly. This was more of a necessity than something special, but it is what she wanted. She also had a rice cooker and a tofu press Grin

BrumCahoots · 17/09/2021 13:51

@RampantIvy .. DS had a rice cooker at Xmas .. uses it loads !

BrumCahoots · 17/09/2021 13:52

@VanCleefArpels .. no car I'm afraid ! .. or driving licence .. will have to wait till he's working to afford that !

simbobs · 17/09/2021 15:20

@RampantIvy, phew! Well done, persistence pays!

I haven't even started to think about DS's 21st yet. I'm not sure what we got for DD 2 years ago, either.

bigTillyMint · 17/09/2021 16:02

Good luck to those starting their final year!
DS will go in a couple of weeks I think/hope!

Re 21st presents, DD wanted money, as will DS - phew! I got DD some little bits to open on the day.
I hadn’t thought about a graduation present Shock

Ragwort · 21/09/2021 19:14

mine is your DS having ftf lectures & tutorials at NTU or is some still on line? Hope you are not too lonely without your DC at home.

Our DS is any 'only' so we have been used to the peace & quiet (& enjoying it Grin). DS is loving his placement job (day 2) despite the panic getting it all sorted !

minesawine · 21/09/2021 19:33

Hi Rags my DS said he is having a mixture of online and f2f lectures, and f2f tutorials. He has had his timetable and said its quite good. He is the more excited about this year than previous and said at last hes doing the subjects he really wants to. He start next week I think and already has a cold and sore throat from all his pre-studying partying. He cant wait to get into SU after a year away.

I'm glad your DS is enjoying his placement. Mine didnt like his that much, but it was well paid. They really liked him and have offered him a graduate job, and we are battling over whether or not he should accept it as a fall back.

My DD goes off to Portsmouth on Friday, so ask me again next week. At the moment given all the drama and fights over how much clothes she should take, I'm also looking forward to the peace and quiet.

Ragwort · 21/09/2021 20:11

Thanks mine that's really encouraging that NTU is doing more ftf and how fantastic that your DS has been offered a graduate job, very well done. Hope your DD enjoys Portsmouth Smile.

Hi all. DD back up in Durham now. We had a family gathering before she went for her 21st, as that was this weekend. We decided on a gift of money to cover her holiday and I chose a piece of jewellery that I’m delighted to say she loved, so that’s a relief.
She had a house party to celebrate her birthday and all went well, so I’m told.
She is in a good place so I’m hoping her last year goes smoothly as possible after the last two!
DD2’s turn now to apply. She’s hoping for York. Really want it to work for her as she’s not having a good time in y13.

talkathon · 26/09/2021 10:03

It’s Benjispruce here, not sure what’s happened to my username! Hmm

Benjispruce4 · 26/09/2021 10:06

Right, think I’ve fixed it.Smile

icanbewhatiwant · 26/09/2021 10:29

Ds1 went back to UEA Friday evening. He's been home since early July. Same house as last year. He was looking forward to going back. He has several clubbing and other evenings out booked. I hope year 3 is a good year. He says his timetable looks similar to pre covid.

Ds has to bring his car back for a service in a few weeks, annoyingly we couldn't get one booked while he was home, so we will see him then anyway. It must be very different for me having him only 45 mins drive away, it'll be strange if Ds2 goes to a further away university.

The kitchen and bathroom are already much cleaner without him here, the younger 2 ds's don't make so much mess. As for his bedroom...I daren't even go in. I know it'll be a mess. I'll tackle it sometime.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/09/2021 10:35

Good to hear your DD has settled in well to her third year @Benjispruce4. Can't believe DC are reaching 21 now. Gosh no idea what to get DS.

Sounds as if your DS is looking forward to getting back to uni life too @icanbewhatiwant!

DS is pretty much radio silent at the moment, with the odd 'yes/no' answer. He's busy at the moment but hoping he may become a bit more forthcoming, or even make a flying visit home at some point soon!

After all the palaver over DD's second covid jab, which she has now had, she now has the mother of all wisdom tooth infections, which has spread into her jaw. Luckily she found a dentist with a cancellation, and she is on industrial strength antibiotics that she can't drink with. She said that her liver needs a rest though Grin

RampantIvy · 26/09/2021 11:08

Belated happy birthday to your DD @Benjispruce4

Benjispruce4 · 26/09/2021 11:18

Thanks @RampantIvy! Ouch that sounds painful for your DD. My DD has had wisdom tooth issues on and off. They cause bother for a week, then stop, then start again a month or so later. Hope the meds do the business.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/09/2021 12:58

she is on industrial strength antibiotics that she can't drink with Poor thing @RampantIvy. Hoping she feels much better soon.

Thank you for the good wishes. Everything else is Ok at the moment. The students are all back and her social life has really ramped up. I hope she can keep up the momentum from her first two years for her last year as well.
