Hmm DD has made lifelong friends with her housemates. A couple have jobs in London after university and she’d love to share with them if she can get a job. She definitely isn’t coming home according to her! I don’t blame her one bit. Not much here for her and we may not stay either.

RampantIvy · 15/02/2022 17:44

Like minesawine's DS DD's friends are from a long way from where we live. I know she would like to keep up with them, but it won't be easy. Two of them will be doing their deferred year abroad next year, and the rest are from Surrey, Dorset and Bristol. We are in Yorkshire.

@Benjispruce5 does your DD not have a dissertation to do, or is it all exams? DD and her friends are all stressed about their dissertations and no-one has time to have a job at the moment.

Notagardener · 15/02/2022 19:16

Well, just visited DC in London, he claims to have no idea about graduation. However, his housemates seem to be all leaving in the summer. Some medics moving in with other medics, one going to his own country. He has already arranged to share with other group of friends in the same street.

But but...I have no idea whether he is looking for a job or a further course. He likes to wind me up so I am not sure whether he had a firm plan or not. Sigh..

Benjispruce5 · 15/02/2022 19:28

@RampantIvy yes she does. She only works 3 days a week and 9.30-3.30 I think so goes to the library on other days and studies at night, often very late. I did say she needs to prioritise but seems to be coping so I think she’ll carry on while she can.

Benjispruce5 · 15/02/2022 19:33

She has done a lot of her dissertation though @RampantIvy. She was working on it at Christmas .

VanCleefArpels · 15/02/2022 19:36

@RampantIvy one of the reasons DD chose her Uni for her subject was that dissertation is not compulsory (have to do 2 x modules instead so not an easy ride). Having seen my older one slog through producing his magnum opus she most definitely made the right decision!

RampantIvy · 15/02/2022 22:37

DD didn't get her dissertation until the middle of January. Over Christmas she had lectures to catch up on, exams to revise for and a huge essay to write, so even if she had been given her dissertation she wouldn't have been in a position to start.

Your DD has a fantastic work ethic @Benjispruce5. I'm sure she will do well.

Benjispruce5 · 16/02/2022 09:01

She does @RampantIvy and she likes to spend too so it’s just as well!
How is your DD doing?

bigTillyMint · 16/02/2022 10:20

@Benjispruce5, sorry your DD didn’t get through, but it sounds like she’s unphased and getting on with her life!

@RampantIvy, that was so late for your DD. DS got started on his diss in the summer (well reading for it!) which is just as well as he has spent so many hours in applications and assessments for a possible internship. I’m just hoping he can get it in for the deadline.

DS will definitely be back to London after graduation - hopefully lots of his friends from uni will come too for work Smile

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 16/02/2022 12:49

DS seems to have been procrastinating rather with knuckling down to his dissertation. He's just bought a bus pass so he can go into the UEA library on a daily basis, and just focus on drafting it now.

DS got started on his diss in the summer

Wow. That was early. Surely he wouldn't have covered all the course content by then? DD had a full term of lectures and seminars during the autumn term, and the students on DD's course had to submit the topics they were interested in at the end of November. They didn't get to find out their question until after Christmas.

They still hadn't done all the modules by the time they had to choose so DD chose the topic that she had acheived the highest marks in. They then did cancer biology, and she enjoyed it so much she was sad that she hadn't chosen that as her main topic, but she didn't know whether she would like it or not.

bigTillyMint · 16/02/2022 18:06

DS wanted to be sure he picked an area with enough data as he is not doing direct research (History) and knew he would be spending a huge amount of time on applying for an internship. Which he may not get Confused

icanbewhatiwant · 10/03/2022 13:41

Can I ask some advice please....A while ago Ds chose a person from a list to help or guide him with his dissertation. Ds spoke to him via email about what he would do. He chose to catch mice and analyse their droppings for parasites. Anyway...he has to hand the dissertation in before the Easter break. He's not caught enough nice yet as he needs 100 plus, he's caught about 70 now. The person who is meant to help is never available, he doesn't answer emails. Ds hasn't even started writing the dissertation yet. This person has said he will meet ds Friday for just 30 minutes. He can't spare more time. Ds is getting quite stressed about it all. Is this how it usually is? Or should he be guiding Ds more? Should Ds complain to someone higher up or just get on with it?

RampantIvy · 12/03/2022 17:18

Your poor DS. He needs to email the course director about this. DD didn't get a reply from her dissertation tutor at first so she emailed the person in charge of all of the dissertations, who emailed her dissertation tutor. She has had weekly Teams meetings with her tutor.
