General healthy eating and exercise thread with aim of losing weight / shaping up. Aim to eat 10 portions of fruit and veg a day, and do more exercise. No bizarre diets please. Weigh in day is Monday (you don't have to weigh in but we will punish you by with-holding stickers). Diet coke will be frowned upon.

ok well done pink!

Pink - 1 lb - total 13 lb (is that right pink?)
Franny 1 lb - total 9 lb

i was really looking forward to saying 2 lb, but one crept on again
ah well, i did eat a shed load of stuff the last few days
i presume running 8.75 miles the week before last contributed to the 2 lost lb
i had a week off but am planning to start running again this week

Har har de har har @ title

Pink - 1 lb - total 13 lb (is that right pink?)
Franny 1 lb - total 9 lb
Avi 11st 1 lb - loss for week 0 lb; total loss 1 lb.
Tiger - starts again at 15st 6lb

I have found focus (I hope), mainly because I am busting out of all the new smaller clothes I bought post dd2. I have gone up a dress size. So my immediate target is to lose a stone and that dress size.

I fear you may all tire of me coming back and saying "Oh yes indeedy I have focus. But I now weigh more than ever and need to lose a stone in the first instance".

Hey ho.

TigerFeet · 21/06/2010 13:59

So

granola & dried fruit
OJ
salad (2)
gazpacho soup (whole pot, so 4 according to label)

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/06/2010 18:59

hello tiger How's it going at work?

Banana
tuna sandwich, cherry toms and cucumber sticks.
small slice of carrot cake
nectarine
pizza and salad (avocado, leaves, cucumber, toms) and coleslaw.
Strawberries
Probably about 7 portions, think I'll have a smoothie later on.

I have defo lost weight in the past week, but as I am in scales denial I don't actually know how much.

Don't you find gazpacho just all kinds of wrong? I want to like it, but it just doesn't feel right eating cold soup. It feels more like eating a cold veg smoothie.

CoupleofKooks · 21/06/2010 19:37

gazpacho soup is SO wrong
we had it at the weekend, i could not finish it
it has a terrible taste in it - i think the tomato juice and the peppers? revolting. i have great faith in your focus now tiger if you can eat a whole pot of that

tiger just keep plugging away at it! of course we are not going to get tired of you coming back
you have to get your head in the right place and that can take a long time sometimes
going down a size is a great target

guffaw @ atkins cake avi

mrs gnorman is visiting from sweden which is very nice

cereal fruit seeds = 4
frittata with salad = 1
chocolate orange cake
tiny bowl of stew and half slice of bread and butter (this was a snack not a meal)

haven't had dinner yet

ran 3 miles

dentist tomorrow

OP posts:
pointydog · 21/06/2010 21:24

aspartame doesn't affect the pointys

I ate far too much at the weekend and now the scoff-fest continues.

weetabix and o juice
banana
half scone with smidge of jam (someone's birthday)
baked tater, cheese, coleslaw, salad (small)
carrot couscous salad, plain salad, bit houmus, cucumber, few baked beans

big slice of victoria sponge filled with cream and strawberries (visitors)

Noooooooo. Prob 6 portions

pointydog · 21/06/2010 21:24

If it;s bad news tomorrow morning, I might not weigh in. I will be in doldrums.

TigerFeet · 22/06/2010 12:12

I like gazpacho although a whole 600g pot was a little heavy going and I suspect I was garlicky for the rest of the day. It's really fresh and juicy om nom nom. It helps that I get it cheap from the staff shop...

I must have had 10 or 11 portions yesterday. Finished the day with chicken, potato, peas & corn on the cob (3) followed by strawberries & pineapple (2)

loads

it really is quite something - the amount of food i can consume in a day. DD2 is feeding more at night atm though, is there usually a 9 month growth spurt does anyone know? She really is stretching at the most alarming rate and she is motoring around now so no surprise she is so hungry I suppose.

Today
granola, dried fruit, pineapple, OJ (3)
salad (2)
tasting of new soups for work (1)
pasta with pesto (none really, although there was a lot of basil)

Work is OK, I am being Pollyanna about it, I have had to spend time perusing the Ocado site and have been tasting lovely new products so all is not lost

I have been eating cake had visitors too pointy.

CoupleofKooks · 22/06/2010 15:41

i am back from dentist
it was bad - wtf - i thought it was going to be this minor thing?
the anaesthetic is wearing off and i am scared
they wouldn't sell me co-codamol at chemist - dp is going after work with some cock and bull story

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 22/06/2010 16:05

oh no Franny what have they done to you?

Can you take some brufen or something whilst you're waiting for the co-codamol?

CoupleofKooks · 22/06/2010 17:11

yes sorry was hugely panicking there
have taken ibuprofen
anaesthetic has i think worn off totally
it is not nice but it is ok
sorry about that
i took the boys to the appointment and it was really hard for all of us, and i was feeling shaky and all that
i have no idea why she had to do so much stuff in my mouth but it took about 50 mins and i feel a bit bashed up!
anyway is all done, i will live i am sure

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 22/06/2010 17:17

you know i reckon the dentist freaked me out a bit
she is lovely and so sympathetic but i think she was TOO sympathetic - she said "ooh you are going to be really quite sore, it's going to hurt a lot"
which from a health professional usually means you are going to be dead doesn't it?
i said "how long for?" she said "a week" cue me going all faint

i thought i would be in and snip snip and out again

i think she was excavating a new channel tunnel in there

OP posts:
pointydog · 22/06/2010 18:13

that must have been a sweaty 50 mins for you all. V brave of you, I am impressed.

CoupleofKooks · 22/06/2010 18:32

at the point i realised it was a horrible mistake and that i did not want to do it, i was kind of committed to it

OP posts:
ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/06/2010 18:41

Oh blimey Fra. You deserve a sticker for bravery. I hope the pain settles down soon.

I find it best if you keep taking the pain medication regularly and don't let the pain worm its way. There's no need to be brave about it, take the pain killers. You won't be taking them forever.

strawberries and banana with oatiflakes
stilton and apple sandwich, cucumber sticks and grapes.
nectarine
cherries
ice cream - what? It was v hot today you know!
veg curry and mushroom rice
strawberries - no cream or meringue

Probably about 9 portions.

I can feel myself slipping back into bad habits and when I start to slip it then turns into a landslide. FOCUS is what is needed here.

CoupleofKooks · 22/06/2010 19:04

i had to puree my dinner
ok lemur i PROMISE i am not being brave about pain relief

cereal mango pineapple seeds = 4
cheese and pickle rolls
banana = 1
pureed curry = 3

8

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 22/06/2010 19:08

lemur no landsliding
what is the problem? the ice cream? one thing is ok
but no more i guess

tiger your job always seems great
i know you said it's often really tedious but bits of it sound so cool, and i bet people actually want to discuss it at dinner parties when they hear what it is

OP posts:
ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/06/2010 19:24

lol at pureed curry!

Well, today I had stilton and an ice-cream and when I'm focused I eat nothing like that. As soon as I eat one bad thing, the next day I'll eat 2 bad things and so it goes on.

I'm an all or nothing type person I think. Which isn't helpful.

What is your job TF?

CoupleofKooks · 22/06/2010 19:47

oh ok
well we are partly saying it in fun i know, but of course ice cream and stilton are not BAD things
(diet coke is a bad thing pointy, just in case you were still wondering )
i think eating things that have plenty of flavour and fat in, help to satiate us and i am sure eating fat regulates that appetite doodah doesn't it? whereas crazy low fat diets make people depressed, literally, and screws up their metabolism blah blah blah

i know what you mean re: all or nothing

i thought your food looked really hearty and healthy and unprocessed and balanced

OP posts:
ThePinkOne · 22/06/2010 20:42

Wow Fran (I was given a sticker at the dentist once. As an adult! I think they were pleased that I'd made it into the chair having sat in the waiting room crying and shaking!)

I have lost 13lb overall but not on the thread. I think I'm on 9 or maybe still 7.

I need to fill in an application form and the dc are both awake and yelling.

I'm going back to work on Saturday. Only a one off at the moment but there will be more.

Tiger, I didn't/couldn't even think about my weight and exercising until DS was nearly 1. Then it just came right and I found focus. But before then - no chance. Just didn't have the headspace or the energy. Don't be too hard on yourself!

CoupleofKooks · 22/06/2010 21:15

yes i agree tiger
i had many a depressed day wondering why i was so slack and lazy and needed to eat so much
i tried lots of things but it just didn't work
ds2 is nearly 2 now and i am only now feeling like my body is working normally again

pink i can't remember what work you do, sorry
do you like it?

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 22/06/2010 21:17

on the subject of bravery, i just forced down 2 mini magnums

OP posts:
ThePinkOne · 22/06/2010 21:55

Young Offenders. Yes, I like it. I'm quite nervous about going back. It's just me and the young offender. No-one to make me a tea, or to ask 'what do I do when.....?' or 'I've forgotten how to...' But I'll be fine once I get there! All good.
