General healthy eating and exercise thread with aim of losing weight / shaping up. Aim to eat 10 portions of fruit and veg a day, and do more exercise. No bizarre diets please. Weigh in day is Monday (you don't have to weigh in but we will punish you by with-holding stickers). Diet coke will be frowned upon.

Tigerfeet is also looking fabulous and has a lovely house (with brilliant toys ). The tiger cubs are, as usual, wonderful and it was lovely to meet Tiger's mum. Then I had a nice visit to DH's great aunt and managed to get ILs to take the kids to the farm park so I could go to the bank and shop for dinner! (exciting life I lead)

Had a lovely day today. Saw friend's this morning and then walked home in the rain, splashing in puddles (and falling in in DS's case Grin) then we came home and got into dry clothes and had cocoa! Ah, autumn!

I'm having a really crap time with food atm. I can't do it Sad I just keep eating chocolate!

pointydog · 26/08/2010 20:36

I think I am entering a sweet tooth phase. Must be them nights drawing in...

CoupleofKooks · 28/08/2010 12:47

afternoon veggers
the computer is working again but i sort of enjoyed being offline, so i may try to be here less
love chatting to you all though and thought of you yesterday when ds1 and i went to neal's yard

i am so not losing weight, am eating lots and not getting enough sleep
am wondering whether i have permanently plateaued anyway, possibly this is natural weight at moment
and haven't run for a week, but ankle has been slightly funny and is (hopefully) the 5 mile race tomorrow so have been resting it
not sure at this point whether i will actually get to race or not - ds2 not quite well so i may have to stay with him while dp races
would be a bit Hmm about that but i suppose he is the 'proper' runner

just realised hardly anyone will know what i mean about neal's yard! oh well
xx

Hurrah for the computer. Hope you get to run tomorrow.

My diet has been awful ie carb overload when normally I don't have that much carbs and it doesn't bother me.

Anyway .................... some of you may remember my reason for joining the thread, and if you don't you'll wonder why I am waffling. So, to get to the point. I am pregnant which is probably why I have been on a carb-fest. It's very early days though, so fingers crossed x

oh avi am very pleased to hear about back
can you do some exercises specifically to strengthen it which might ward off another episode? worth a try?

am fairly glum as could not race
ds2 has had d+v bug on and off - he was completely better yesterday so had high hopes for today, but was ill after breakfast again this morning
dp also feeling dodgy so did not run :(
we both feel we would have done quite well (for our respective levels) so are both a bit disappointed not to be revelling in the glory ha ha
dp feeling ok now but ds2 breastfed literally all morning and has now crashed out on the sofa

poor ds1! it is quite hard looking after 2 children when one is poorly and one is not, isn't it? we were all lounging around upstairs feeling glum, just after phoning friends to cancel meeting at the race, dp and ds2 both feeling sick
ds1 came bounding in and said "i've made a party downstairs and there are snacks and disco music!!!"
i went down with him and there were big signs everywhere saying "HAPPY" "HAPPY!"
LOL he is the eternal optimist sometimes

i have just introduced him to the famous 5 and that saved the morning really
kirrin island on one side and breastfeeding toddler on the other - lovely

oh faraway tree dreadful tosh don't you think? i never read that one as child so don't feel affectionate about it
i really do like malory towers, as has been documented on other threads, i seem to recall with boco and mrsC Larking About [nostalgic]

famous five are terrible tripe quite gripping though
ds1 riveted
the thing with george is, she is fab of course, very strong, brave, independent etc - great alternative heroine
BUT
only because she is "like a boy" and strives to be as much like a boy as possible
poor anne, who is very much a girl, is just shit
scared of everything, too weak to row a boat, and constantly blurting out secrets and having to be kicked under the table

there is your sunday slice of TMI

OP posts:
pointydog · 29/08/2010 20:33

lol @ your big poo.

And I loved faraway tree. Not tosh at all. Dd2 loved it too.

YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAaaaaaaaaayYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!! Congrats Lemur GrinGrinGrinGrin How exciting!!!! Tell all when you're ready

Not bad week I think. Looking forward to weighing in the morning. Hmm I think.

But have just made huge cheesecake to take to friend's house tomorrow so it might all go to pot again!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 30/08/2010 09:19

Morning all.

Many thanks for the congrats Smile, I'm only about 5 weeks but already suffering from sickness and bone crunching tiredness. You really want symptoms for reassurance, then they come and you wish they'd piss off!!

CoupleofKooks · 30/08/2010 09:39

malory towers is just superb
it has the most glorious unashamed moralistic stereotypes and actually makes you wince with its smug un PCness about foreigners, gypsies, americans, fat people, thick people, etc
i am not sure why that is good, i wouldn't tolerate it in anything else Blush
i hope i am not turning into one of those people who say "oh there is no harm in gollies, i had one when i was young and i am not racist" Hmm

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 30/08/2010 09:40

oh btw we are ALL coming down with this d+v thing
ds2 decidedly perky today and i am on the downward spiral Hmm

LEEEEMURRRRRR Grin Huge congratulations my lovely. Sickness/tiredness in the early days is the pits, you feel as though you must soldier on (esp if you are keeping schtum in RL for now) when in reality all you want is to curl up under a duvet and hide. I shall refrain from getting annoyingly excited at you until you're feeling better :)

Hope the d&v passes quickly Fran. My Mum washere last week and was laid out with a bug for a couple of days but itdidn' spread round te family so was probably food poisoning :(

Keep meanig to reread Maory TOwers. Loved them when I was 7 or 8. Was packed off to boarding school myself at 9 and was most put out to find that the reality was othinglike Ms BLyton told me it would be. Rather suspect I would not have been on Darrell Rivers' friendslist anyway -too spotty/swotty/non sporty.

DD1 has bought a cat outfit wit her pocket money and will probably wear it continually until return to school next Mon. SHe is prancing about miaowing and proclaimong tat she is the cleverest cat ever because she hs never seen another cat dance on 2 legs/eat a banana/talk and so forth.

I have had granola and dried fruit for breakfast.

whatagradeA · 30/08/2010 20:32

Erm.... it's Monday.... We weigh on Mondays. Don't we Blush [keener]

Well anyway, even if it's not the done thing on a bank holiday I weighed and I've lost 1.5lb.

CoupleofKooks · 30/08/2010 21:35

nice work pink
i could weigh but even with a day of d+v i bet i have still put weight on! so i won't Blush
we are mostly recovered. i think. ds1 has got it the worst this evening
i always faint these days when i am sick so dp had to come and hold me on the toilet - so romantic! i went without him one time and now have an egg on my head from banging the sink on the way down Hmm
remembered to take my glasses OFF this time in advance

tiger LOL at cleverest cat eating a banana

hope all veggers well and slim and not too tired

Kicking myself for even looking at this thread, dunno why I did. But yes, Neal's Yard was good.
Stupidly, TooT misses you lot/the old 10/10.
Anyway, never mind.
Congrats to Lemur xx

CoupleofKooks · 31/08/2010 07:45

I never know what to say TooT - I don't think there is anything more from me to say

ds1 still feeling bad, the rest of us improved
so much to do that just got left behind in the illness

OP posts:
whatagradeA · 31/08/2010 20:22

Hey TooT! How're you doing? I miss you and how it all used to be too and always think about you all when I use my Neals Yard stuff - still haven't finished the hand cream and the frankinsence cream

Sorry you didn't get to do your race Fran. But you were there weren't you? Training wise, so you should be very proud Smile
