General healthy eating and exercise thread with aim of losing weight / shaping up. Aim to eat 10 portions of fruit and veg a day, and do more exercise. No bizarre diets please. Weigh in day is Monday (you don't have to weigh in but we will punish you by with-holding stickers). Diet coke will be frowned upon.

With the thrush I cut out yeast totally and utterly and sugar, as much as I can but not totally thoroughly.

I have also found that doing this even while taking some sort of medication helps it clear up quicker.

Also, change your bra everyday and your towels more regularly. I'm sure the heat doesn't help.

CoupleofKooks · 04/07/2010 21:09

thanks lemur
i managed the sugar, mostly, but didn't even know where to start with the yeast
that's no bread i guess? what else?
i have brought out the big guns wrt medication, as thrush in milk ducts scares me a bit, but have not actually finished course of antibiotics so can imagine will have to have a second go at it later in the week

penny has just dropped that avi was drunk

long walk round campus doing this history quest thing with ds1
it was pretty funny - i don't know how to describe it - they have these actors there and you join them on a quest to find lost historical treasures
it is about 3 parts history 2 parts fantasy
ds1 loves doing them and thought they were real until the guy said at the end today that they were just actors

Gah! Stayed the same. I've got a bit cocky food-wise I think. Because I'm exercising I think I can eat what I want!! But I need to eat better aswell to lose it. But staying the same is ok for now. Also can't find Bulgar wheat at the minute and that's something easy I can do instead of white bread!

Right. Focus. Am just having fruit for breakfast and I will endeavor to find Bulgar Wheat and stop eating so many biscuits

bloody hell, that anti-candida diet is a bit hardcore! I never done anything like that, I just cut out the obvious stuff. Bread of any sort, marmite, and really obvious refined sugar foods likes cakes and chocolate. I used to do it as soon as I felt that thrushy twitch and for a week after starting to treat it with flucanzanole (sp?)

I think cutting out the bread while treating thrush has left me with a legacy of hardly eating bread anymore. I used to have toast for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch everyday, but now I probably only have about four slices of bread over a week. We only ever get through 1/2 - 1 loaf a week.

I'm not sure if I have lost weight, if I have it's only a small amount, but I haven't put on.

Back to eating with FOCUS today as I had a bit of a slack weekend.

DS is with MIL this afternoon, so I'm treating myself to a smear test. I know how to enjoy my child free time don't I?!

TigerFeet · 05/07/2010 13:19

That reminds me Lemur I need to book a smear. Oh the joys . And that reminds me further. Must do something about me ladyjungle.

I have been fabulous so far today
Granola + fruit (2)
Melon (1)
Sweetcorn chickpeas lettuce cucumber onion pepper radish (3)

and no cake thus far

dd1's birthday cake was a triumph. No more birthdays until September thankfully

Come and talk to me about exercise. When where how what who? On work days I am up at 6 and then sit down again at around 8.30. On non work days I am doing bf group, school runs, housework and so forth so timings around the same. I'm cracking the eat less, just need to work on the do more now.

Avi yes it is true that muscle weighs more than fat, also if you build up muscle then your metabolism will speed up as muscle takes more energy to maintain than fat does.

Have not weighed self today but am not expecting miracles due to birthday treats. I will do so when I get home and will report back. It will be an increase though as not first thing in the morning post wee/bf pre breakfast. I may just wait (typed weight there initially ) until the morning.

Oh and it's my wedding anniversary today . DH away with work. So no handrubbingy type exercise for me

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 05/07/2010 18:34

Happy Anniv TF How many years?

I'm not the one to advise on exercise Can you fit anymore walking into your day?

The big news of the day. I've dropped a clothes size I went clothes shopping pre smear test appt and bought some trousers in a smaller size

weetabix and a banana
2 crackers, lump of cheese, strawberries and raspberries
pear
pineapple
Homemade toad-in-the-hole with peas, carrots and sweetcorn.

I really need to go shopping, which is why my lunch was a bit odd.

CoupleofKooks · 05/07/2010 18:55

lemur i bet that feels great
smaller trousers are a marvellous thing
we should have a party with very very small canapes to celebrate

another overdue smearer here - we must do it tiger, will you hassle me if i hassle you?

tiger do you get a lunch break? could you run / walk for 30 mins of it? or even 15 or 20 mins would be a help
ditto during the day at home - could you stick an exercise video on for 15 mins? the children could watch you and join in
i used to sometimes just do 5 mins with a hula hoop
it gets your heart beat up a bit and you can just grab the hoop at any point during the day and get started
ditto skipping (pelvic floors permitting)
0r 5 mins lifting weights, if you have some hand weights?

I am not wqeighing this week due to impending hols. I will be v strict on my return and will aim for millions of fruit and veg.

CoupleofKooks · 05/07/2010 21:46

cor that is a lame excuse from the dog
we want to know how much you lost LAST week pointy, not how much you are going to eat on holiday

cereal peach strawberries pineapple raisins milk seeds = 4
honey cashews, brazils,
rocket tomatoes tofu chickpeas oatcakes philadelphia avocado = 3

(this was attempt to do low yeast diet thingy, however as you will see i completely gave up, am now blasting thrush with huge amounts of chemicals so whether or not i eat a slice of bread somehow seemed rather irrelevant)

pasta filled with pine nuts and spinach, not v nice, too clarty
broccoli, green cabbage, red cabbage = 3
lemon cake
chocolate
ice cream

OP posts:
pointydog · 05/07/2010 21:48

I am already in holiday mode and have been having the odd snack here and there. I don't want to put myself on a weight downer just before my hols

right i will get to work on that later avi
not sure when as boys are currently taking in turn to be awake around the clock i think
and i don't think this nipple problem is just thrush - or possibly not thrush at all i think it's his latch???! he seems to be sucking right on the end of the nipple and his teeth are digging in and i have cracks and whatnot all over
it's a disaster
why on earth would a 2 year old suddenly have a crap latch?

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 06/07/2010 08:33

at Lucky L being two
I was reading up on crap latches recently, dd2 is struggling to adjust hers now she has teeth . Is he getting any back teeth through? I wonder if that would affect it. Also now that he's an old pro is there any chance he's getting lazy with his latch? Perhaps you need to go back to basics and teach him to latch on properly again, open mouth wide, nipple in right direction and so forth.

Avi there doesn't seem to be much in the way of carbs in your list - otherwise it looks fine. Perhaps you need some more energy in there? A bit more cereal perhaps or some pasta or whatever. What's your activity level like? If you're quite active then you definitely need more carbs.

Brisk walk at lunchtime is a good idea - I only get half an hour which I usually spend browsing the interweb. I love the hula hoop idea, I was always crap at that sort of thing so it will provide family entertainment if nothing else!

We all overslept this morning. I shouldn't use dd2 as an alarm clock, usually she wakes at 6 for the day, today she woke, I fed her, and we both went back to sleep. I am all discombobulated as a result.

7 years lemur, but we've been together for 11. Bugger me I am old.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/07/2010 19:17

Avi - your list looks saintly. Really it does.

I think it's quite common for latches to go a bit awry as they get older. I think they get all blase about it as they are experts at getting the milk, however it's not always great for your nipples. Like TF said, I think they recommend you go back to basics with the latch.

porridge with sultana's
banana
apple
trail mix
crackers, brie, hummus, sugar snap peas, cherry toms.
2 fish fingers, 5 chips, beans and peas.
strawberries

10 portions.

CoupleofKooks · 06/07/2010 19:23

have had some success today getting him to open wide, and then STUFFING the breast right in - i do remember ds1 having a stage where his mouth grew and his teeth rubbed a bit, but this is nastier - I've got basically a cut along the bottom edge of each nipple, and some sore spots around the top as well. obviously his teeth should not be resting there. can't believe it took me so long to figure this out
my breasts have gone pretty small again now, maybe i have shrunk and he has grown?
anyway we had a quite successful feed this afternoon which was great as i was starting to dread them / avoid opportunities for feeding etc, and last night time with lots of short intense feeds was pretty awful

right avi

i've been thinking about you
is your metabolism a bit buggered? you are hardly eating anything
did you used to eat decent portions and so on? i mean is it just recently you've been restricting yourself, you haven't been eating like this for long have you?

let's do the calorie thing:

3 satsumas 75
8oz melon 50
0.5pt low fat milk 70
1 oz cereal (health food shop unsweetened bran flakes) 80

breakfast = 275

2 rice cakes 70
1 cracker (40 cal)
pasta sauce (90 cal)
14 oz green veg ? 70?

was this a meal? in what kind of universe was this a meal fgs??
anyway it was 270 calories

3 tomatoes 30
1 beetroot 10
1 pitta bread 120
1 oz cheese 120
1 oz chicken 50
1 large glass wine 150
2 tsp hazelnut butter 60

dinner = 390
plus wine 150

total 1185

i think most low calorie diets are based around 1500 cals a day? and they are arguably too low calorie
i would think about 500 calories for each meal, and then some snacks / wine depending how active you are being that day
i think you need more carbs and more protein and, well, more everything really!
is this just annoying? i don't know why you aren't losing weight but i definitely think you should eat MORE

do you do any aerobic activity or is it all strength based or gentle eg gardening or walking? do you ever get out of breath and sweaty? (hand rubbing excluded)

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 06/07/2010 19:25

if that adding up is wrong it is because i did it with someone screeching in my ear "want some CHEESE! want some CHEESE! want some CHEESE IN MY HAND!"
