Anyone else got this Virus - ongoing Nausea - I have had it for 4 weeks

Just been to the doctor. I have had Nausea now for 4 weeks. The doctor says it is a virus and I should be OK soon. He said that unlike the Norovirus this one can linger for a while. Was wondering if anyone else had anything similar and if so how long did it last. One good thing I suppose I didn't put on any weight over Christmas!!, but I would just love to feel healthy again.

Yes same off and on with appetite , feel the sickness worse tonight , Iv been crying and got myself in a real state over it , I’m going to the doctors in the morn going to ask for blood tests, where are you? I’m in Liverpool

CornishSummer · 11/11/2018 20:39

I’m in Cornwall.
Let us know how you get on tomorrow.

CornishSummer · 12/11/2018 14:17

How did you get on Jen1320?

Jen1320 · 12/11/2018 14:48

Hi there , he gave me tablets for reflux??? And stronger anti sickness, just waiting now to get my bloods done , how are you getting on CornishSummer.

CornishSummer · 12/11/2018 17:55

Good that your getting bloods done.
I’ve been on and off ok, really nauseous most of the morning but a bit better now.
I made myself go to work and have tried to change my mindset a little which does help.
I have tablets for stomach acid which is the same as reflux I think. I’ve stopped taking anti nausea as it made me feel spaced out and weird.

Jen1320 · 13/11/2018 04:21

I had a few hours relief from the stomach acid tablet, was so happy thinking this is it I’m ok now, and now it’s back again , just taken another one just waiting for it to kick in

Jen1320 · 13/11/2018 04:22

Are you getting relief with the tablets you think, mines worse of a night lying down I think

Oldmum55 · 13/11/2018 08:35

Jen1320 I had the stomach acid as another symptom too to the point where I was starting to think that perhaps it was gastritis or an ulcer and I would have to have an endoscopy. Thankfully it went eventually so I guess the stomach acid is part of this weird virus. Hope you'll all get some relief soon.

Chrisashbrook · 13/11/2018 11:07

It's a horrible virus and there's no real medication that can help. Drink lots of water – or warm decaff drinks – and, if your doctor agrees, take valium so you can sleep. I'm not a mum; I'm a dad – being looked after by my 17-year-old daughter while her mum's away. Don't worry, it will finally go away. Worryingly, doctors in the UK seem unaware of this virus and assume you've got something wrong with your diet. It's no your diet; it this damned virus.

CornishSummer · 13/11/2018 12:47

Well I lasted all of 2 and a half hours in work today :-( I was overcome with nausea and an odd headache. Seriously fed up now. I woke up with nausea and low down stomach pains but it passed. Feels like when one symptom goes another arrives.
Chrisashbrook what are your symptoms?
How are you feeling Oldmum55?

Oldmum55 · 13/11/2018 13:02

CornishSummer I'm finally out of the woods but it took a good 6 to 8 weeks before all symptoms old and new finally subsided. So take heart.

Margaret2018 · 13/11/2018 18:01

Hello everyone. I have been reading all your posts because I have the same thing and have finally decided to join you. Boy am I miserable and sick of this! I have had it's for four weeks. Same symptoms as everyone else, but no headaches, though hideous diarrhoea early on. Now I have days when the upper abdomen pain and nausea feel unbearable. I feel so washed out and exhausted with this. Yet to go to the Dr but will next week - although expect/hope it is nothing major and certainly not IBS. So I just wanted to say hello and thank you for posting your experiences because it has helped me stay sane! I so hope we all get better soon.

Oldmum55 · 13/11/2018 18:39

Hi Margaret glad you found this thread helpful as I did when I first googled 'Long lasting virus' It did help to keep me sane when I was starting to think all sorts of things!Smile

Margaret2018 · 13/11/2018 19:26

Thank you Old Mum. It is helping keep me sane. It is just such a strange thing and you think you are getting there and then have a hideous day like I had today. I know yours was very long lasting. I hope you are now better? Bloody hell I don't think I can cope if mine lasts eight weeks. Four weeks now and I am desperate!

CornishSummer · 13/11/2018 19:47

I’m already in bed, today has not been a good day :-( I can’t see myself going to work tomorrow, I think it’ll be a rest day and another trip to the Doctor to have a chat and beg for a blood test.
3 weeks tomorrow this all started, I am so thankful for this thread I really am... it really puts my mind at ease in those ‘mad’ moments.

Jen1320 · 13/11/2018 20:58

I’m in bed myself yesterday I felt great and tonight I’m the worst I have been , so odd, wish that it would just pass now, so scary , can’t work or look after the kids

CornishSummer · 13/11/2018 22:24

@jen1320 I’m wide awake , can’t settle this eve. I really hope it passes for us both soon and we can live our ‘normal’ lives again. Like you I find it scary, especially when I get a bad rush of nausea, like nothing I’ve ever felt before.

Jen1320 · 14/11/2018 02:52

Hi there, just on way home from a and e . They did loads of bloods, checked me over and all come back normal which makes me feel a bit better, got to go back the doctors for that h pylori test then if it still doesn’t go camera down throat. How you all getting on ? X

CornishSummer · 14/11/2018 07:02

I have woken up nauseous :-( Will book the Doctors when they open but I honestly feel like going A&E so I actually get some answers straight away. What made you go A&E last night? Was it the nausea or other symptoms too?

Jen1320 · 14/11/2018 09:02

It was just the nausea, was awful yday, when I got back I actually slept through, and I have woken up with a sore tummy feels like I have been in a fight, but the nausea for now isn’t as bad as it was yday. Go back your doctors today, let me know what they say

Jen1320 · 14/11/2018 16:07

How you getting on CornishSummer?

Jen1320 · 15/11/2018 07:38

How’s everyone getting on? Margaret you feeling any better ?

Margaret2018 · 15/11/2018 18:10

Hi everyone. Thanks for checking Jen! Hope you are doing better. Yesterday and today I have not had stomach pain or nausea which is such a relief. I find if I keep eating - despite the nausea and lack of appetite - I don't get the pain. Interestingly I read something along those lines about b. Pylori or whatever it is called. I still feel completely washed out and low which is probably not surprising but maybe, just maybe, I am on the mend after 30 days! What about you Jen? And others?

Jen1320 · 15/11/2018 20:14

Hi Margaret , I’m on day 20 , so hopefully by day 30 mine will go like yours, Iv not been great today, have to take the anti sickness to get me through. I find I’m better of a day and can eat more, after 4pm can’t stomach anything and feel worse 🙄 just so strange that the doctors are a bit clueless . X

Margaret2018 · 15/11/2018 20:27

Yes it is such a strange thing and hard not to worry. I am going to try to build up my strength now. And my morale! I had nausea and pain up til two days ago - occasionally it comes back fleetingly but I am trying to be hopeful. It has knocked me for six really. Hang on in there. I have no appetite really but try to keep eating. And after work I just get into bed! Easier because my kids are older.
