Anyone else got this Virus - ongoing Nausea - I have had it for 4 weeks

Just been to the doctor. I have had Nausea now for 4 weeks. The doctor says it is a virus and I should be OK soon. He said that unlike the Norovirus this one can linger for a while. Was wondering if anyone else had anything similar and if so how long did it last. One good thing I suppose I didn't put on any weight over Christmas!!, but I would just love to feel healthy again.

Such an awful feeling, I think I might see a dr today just to make sure I dont have anything coming that is serious. Thank you Rabbit57

Lynda2018 · 22/09/2018 18:00

Hi All, Im suffering exactly like you!! Thought I was the only one with this ATM :( Constant Nausea, burping, tiredness, weak, faint etc been to doc x2 and 2 different hospitals visit later, blood tests clear and all saying it's a virus.. on day 12 now and it continues. what are ye taking to help the symptoms? Are any of you better now? I'm at my witsend with it!!!!

Oldmum55 · 22/09/2018 19:12

Thank goodness I found this post! I was getting really worried. Two weeks ago I had the above symptoms of nausea, tiredness, awful wind, poor appetite, light headedness but no cold symptoms. All this in the morning then I would get slowly better through the day. It lasted about 4 days then nothing back to normal.Thought perhaps a stomach virus but a couple of days ago it started again! Feeling slightly better today, but that doesn't mean anything, I've lost 4lb without even trying! Helps to know I'm not the only one so there must be such a virus going round!

Lynda2018 · 22/09/2018 19:26

I was feeling slightly better the last 2 days and then I arrived back today like day 1. Exact same symptoms as you Oldmum! Where abouts are ye? I'm in Ireland!

Oldmum55 · 22/09/2018 19:48

Hi Lynda I'm in Wales so obviously the virus has crossed the Irish Sea! Yes I try not to get too hopeful as tomorrow the beast could be back, but at least we know we are not alone! Grin

Rabbit57 · 22/09/2018 20:00

Hi all. I’m pleased to report I’m finally much better. Not out and about but up and dressed and doing easy housework stuff like loading washing machine etc! It’s 3 weeks tomorrow since mine started and, like you, I kept thinking I was getting better and then back as bad as ever. I really didn’t believe it was a virus - I thought there was something really badly wrong. Now I’m sure that it was, so just hang on in there and expect it to last ages, and try not to worry about what it is. One day at a time and all that x

Lynda2018 · 22/09/2018 20:05

Exactly, peace of mind to know I'm not alone.

Thanks Rabbit57, it's good to know that there'll be an end to it!!! Can I ask what tablets/medicine or /natural remedies you have been taking to help?

Rabbit57 · 22/09/2018 20:43

Hi. I had Buccastem for nausea but I’m not sure it helped that much to be honest. Also Rennie Orange. Paracetamol and Ibuprofen for headache, muscle aches and abdominal pain. I also discovered an amazing thing called a Migracap which I ordered online. I had the most horrendous headaches and this did help. It goes in the freezer and then provides cold pressure over your head. I also found chewing chewy mint sweets helped my head. I didn’t eat much except ginger biscuits! Hope that helps! X

reenchantmentofeverydaylife · 23/09/2018 13:43

Oh god I think I've had/got this, and it has been going on for weeks I'm sorry to say. Almost permanently upset stomach (except on the odd day here and there where I think it's gone away, then it reappears with a fucking vengeance!) Excruciating, migraine-like headaches and face/tooth pain, tense arms/hands, reflux, pulsing/nagging abdominal pain that comes and goes (wondered if it was appendicitis), nausea, loose stools often, and the most urgent, bubbling, god-awful-smelling farts you can imagine. Thank god I live on my own! On the other hand, it has been a lonely experience...

My appetite hasn't been too bad, but the thing is, I've been on a new medication that can have side effects most of the time I've had the stomach hell, so it has been hard to know what's what. By now though I'm certain it is more than medication side effects because I've tried this medication in the past and yet I've never in my life had such grim stomach issues and for so long.

Yesterday and last night again were awful, today hasn't been too bad so far. I just want it to stop. Please tell me it ends well!! Flowers

Oldmum55 · 23/09/2018 15:00

Reenchantment I could have written your post except for the headaches! Like you I've been put on a new medication and I'm getting convinced that could be the reason even if it feels like a stomach virus of sort. Last night and this morning I felt awful even tempted to go to A&E, instead I've got an appointment for the out of hours GP tonight. I feel okish now but I know the awful feelings will come back! Confused

Horselover · 23/09/2018 15:30

I've had this bug for two weeks now occasionally think I've turned corner to get nausea again, feel weak and faint and tight chest with palpitations. Hope it goes soon can't face much apart from grapes dry biscuits

Oldmum55 · 23/09/2018 21:25

Well what a shock! The out of hours GP found my BP was quite high and I am to make an urgent appointment with my doctor! As for the symptoms she wasn't particularly concerned whether they were side effect of the new medication or a virus! Shock

reenchantmentofeverydaylife · 23/09/2018 23:00

Sorry to hear that Oldmum55. Does the leaflet with your medication list raised blood pressure as a potential side effect? Hope you're not too worried and the GP can help sort this for you very soon.

My tummy and the other symptoms haven't been too bad today, although I'm a bit superstitious about putting that in writing just yet! Have been feeling very low and a bit tearful though, ironic since I've been taking these antidepressants for almost 6 weeks now.

Fingers crossed we both properly turn a corner this week Flowers

Rabbit57 · 23/09/2018 23:20

Hi Oldmum55. Try not to worry too much about your blood pressure . It may even be related to this damn virus. My liver results and my heart rhythm and rate went very haywire while I had it and both seem back to normal now, touch wood. Good luck for GP appt tomorrow x

Bethmoo · 24/09/2018 11:35

Hi ladies. So glad I glad I found this chat as I have had these same symptoms for the last four days. Been to GP who referred me to A&E as heart rate was low and I’m breast feeding an 8 week old so suggested I needed fluids. After nearly 8 hours in A&E all tests results fine and concluded a virus. Really thought it was something more as when the nausea comes on it’s horrendous and can last hours. Thought it had passed yesterday as Sunday I felt better but then had another episode yesterday. It’s so weird how it can go for a day then come back! Finding it really hard with breast feeding and looking after 2 year old! Was debating whether to go back to GP or not but what can they really do?!

nethun1 · 24/09/2018 15:48

Same virus here!

Raised blood pressure, heart rate and palpitations. Intermittent nausea, feeling generally awful, back pain, organ pain (!?) and just as I think I'm feeling better, it starts up again.

I've never had a virus that makes me feel like I'm going to have a heart attack before!

Oldmum55 · 24/09/2018 17:51

Hi ladies after various tests and check ups all OK! So must be this virus, I will have to keep an eye on my BP but otherwise I've been told to relax, as every time I start thinking about heart attacks, blood clots, stomach cancer etc , amazing how the symptoms are so similar and how you can be fine one day and back to ill the next. Good job we can share the same experiences, does wonders for the anxiety!Flowers

Realitea · 24/09/2018 19:19

Ive had this twice and it’s awful! I got quite anxious as I was told it was all in my head. It was like morning sickness, could only eat certain foods and smells set me off too. Absolute exhaustion and vertigo and there were a couple of days where I slept solidly for 24 hours. I still don’t know what it was. Maybe labirynthitis? I don’t know. The only thing that worked was stemetil

Lynda2018 · 27/09/2018 11:29

How's everyone doing? I was feeling better at the start of the week and on day 18 now and I'm back to my worst, nausea, heart palpitations, swollen throat with phelghm, extreme fatigue but can't sleep etc!! Will this ever end???? I'm wondering will I ever be back to normal!! Dunno how much longer I can take :(

Rabbit57 · 27/09/2018 12:01

Hi all. I think I’m finally better! I’m on day 24 and I’ve been gardening and cleaning my car today without any return of symptoms. I’ve never had anything like this either. It really was frightening and difficult to accept it was a virus. Looks like it was though, thank goodness. Hope you all start to feel better soon xx

Lynda2018 · 27/09/2018 12:17

Hi rabbit57, I am delighted to hear that you're finally feeling better - it gives me hope that I will too soon. Did you improve from Day 19 onwards? I started taking a probiotic and Olive Leaf Extract to try and help me. Appetite still hasn't returned 🙄 Ive never been sick before and it is scary how much this virus has knocked me.

Oldmum55 · 27/09/2018 20:32

Hi all pleased to report that I have finally started to feel noticeably better today! Yesterday was a turning point, managed a quick visit to the supermarket, not on my own mind, as I felt too light headed so DH came along. Today much better if still a bit wobbly. Appetite back and no more awful queasiness. This time it has lasted about 10 days but I had already had a bout of it lasting about 5 days before with a week's gap! And today my DH says he's hot and feeling dreadful! Shock

Lynda2018 · 27/09/2018 21:28

Hi Oldmum55, thrilled to hear that for you!!!! May I ask what you took over the ten days, if anything to help you recover? Just want to ensure I'm doing the best I can. Need to beat this asap. Ps, sorry to hear the DH is feeling poorly now, hopefully it's not the virus.

Oldmum55 · 27/09/2018 22:09

Hi Lynda I didn't take anything apart from 2 x paracetamol when I felt I needed some help and plenty of water. DH has been in bed asleep most of the evening so I guess he has got it! Just hope this is the end and the symptoms won't come back. Hope you too will feel better soon Lynda, keep us updated x Flowers

Rabbit57 · 29/09/2018 07:34

Hi Lynda2018. Yes I think around day 19 I started to feel gradually better and didn’t keep slipping back as I did before. Now day 27 and pretty much normal. Still some low abdo pain like period pain but otherwise fine. Hope you improve soon xx
