Anyone else got this Virus - ongoing Nausea - I have had it for 4 weeks

Just been to the doctor. I have had Nausea now for 4 weeks. The doctor says it is a virus and I should be OK soon. He said that unlike the Norovirus this one can linger for a while. Was wondering if anyone else had anything similar and if so how long did it last. One good thing I suppose I didn't put on any weight over Christmas!!, but I would just love to feel healthy again.

Hi all everybody completely recovered? I finally got there after 4 weeks of getting better than relapsing, then feeling weak and wobbly. Took several visits to GP, Out of hours GP, A&E and drop in day hospital as I thought I had something more than just a virus! Fingers crossed now!

Oldmum55 · 08/10/2018 12:09

OK spoke too soon some of the symptoms came back thankfully in a mild form! Any of you fellow virus sufferers still following this post? Confused

Rabbit57 · 09/10/2018 07:35

Hi Oldmum55! Yes I’m still here! Got some low tummy ache back so have sent another wee sample as this was one of my early symptoms. Doing normal things though. Decorating a bedroom at the moment so pretty much normal, except mild headache a lot of the time, muscles more achey than usual and very tired quite quickly. Otherwise fine. How about you?

Oldmum55 · 09/10/2018 09:15

Hi Rabbit57! Glad you are pretty much back to normal. I was for the last week then at the weekend started to feel lethargic poor appetite and indigestion when I do eat! Again as since yesterday back to normal but what's going on? It's now over a month I've had these weird symptoms. As I said blood tests, urine, examination by doc normal, I was hoping for some cold symptoms to explain it but nothing! Confused

Yellowsunredroses · 09/10/2018 20:35

I assume you’ve done a pregnancy test?!

Oldmum55 · 10/10/2018 10:40

No chance of that Yellow! Grin

tobee · 14/10/2018 20:04

I reckon I've had this! On and off nausea for weeks , burpiness, fatigue, dodgy bottom, having to rush to the loo, sore throat, cough etc. Nothing really helping, nothing developing as a really obvious symptom that follows an arc.

But also, really intolerant of concentrating long enough to read anything. Even mumsnet (!) when I'm feeling really rubbish.

Oldmum55 · 15/10/2018 12:23

Well week 6 now and still not 100% Much better but still lingering stomach symptoms lethargic poor appetite feeling low generally. Perhaps now it's post viral syndrome? 🤔

reenchantmentofeverydaylife · 15/10/2018 15:51

Oldmum55 I'm sorry to hear that this nasty virus is still affecting you. My stomach actually got a lot better for about 10 days, although I was still fatigued and felt pretty low. But then 2 days ago the tummy trouble returned and my heart sank. Admittedly it's a bit milder than the original attack but even so I've felt sore and 'bubbly', nauseous and generally out of sorts. I wonder if it's one of those grim viruses that come back at least once before you're finally shut of them? Or maybe the kind that gives you long term symptoms coz your body gets damaged by the original bout?

Anyway, hope you feel some improvement very soon. I'm in bed already! By the way, has it affected your sleep patterns? I'm waking up most mornings by 4 and can't get back off for at least two hours. Then feel really tired in the afternoons too.

Oldmum55 · 15/10/2018 16:18

Hi Reenchantment! Good to hear from you! See that you too have still some lingering symptoms of this weird 'virus'. Yes it has affected my sleep to the extent that I wake up early and need to take a Rennie or mint! Now I've started using 3 pillows and it seems to help. But poor appetite when I usually got to stop myself eating and I know my bowels are not the same as before! Well hope you too will soon get rid of this nuisance and keep us posted! SmileFlowers

reenchantmentofeverydaylife · 27/10/2018 04:54

Hi again Oldmum55, how are you feeling now? Thanks for your last post, hope your appetite and bowels have improved since then. My stomach still has off days but has improved overall, touch wood. But I'm worried I've now got another virus, or the one from before has a sting in its tail, because I've had horrendous pains and headaches this week. It seemed to begin over a week ago with sore shoulders and then developed into agonising upper back pain, which in turn led to migraines. I'm so fed up! Still not sleeping through most nights, and the stiffness from the aches and pains is slowing me down. Haven't been out for a couple of days. Perhaps it's just bad luck that I got two viruses back to back.

Anyway I hope you're not experiencing this, but let us know how you're doing if you get a chance.

Oldmum55 · 27/10/2018 08:36

Hi Reenchantment! Well you won't believe it but I've now got a full blown cold and cough, bit of a temperature and feeling generally low! Is this the same virus or a new one? Saw the GP before the cold symptoms and she agreed it was viral even before the cold and cough. Fed up here too! Get well soon Flowers

reenchantmentofeverydaylife · 27/10/2018 11:16

Oh no Shock Sorry to hear you're still poorly Oldmum66, there's just been no let up has there?! Still, glad you've checked things out with your GP, I only hope your symptoms will subside and disappear very soon. Keep warm and cosy if possible, and hydrated. Are you taking anything for it? Paracetamol has taken the edge off for me, but I ought to be taking something stronger really. I just hate the 'hangover' strong painkillers give me, so I end up in bed suffering instead! Pain has moved down to my hips and knees today, seems to be going through me from top to toe! But it's nice not to have that feeling like my shoulders are being crucified and my back crushed in a vice lol Grin

Well, I'm sending you well wishes for a speedy recovery. We're a right pair aren't we? Flowers

Oldmum55 · 28/10/2018 09:59

Hi Reenchantment! Have you or are you going to have your new symptoms checked by the GP? It's a mystery what has been going on for the past 7 weeks. I only take paracetamol as it has the least side effects and it's kinder on the stomach. I've also got a Mucus syrup hoping it will ease the congestion. Wonder how the other virus sufferers are doing now? Flowers

FluffyAnimalsRule · 29/10/2018 08:30

Hope you all start feeling better soon. I think I have the same thing as you - have been being sick for a month and sometime the nausea subsides but then it comes back with a vengeance. Am thoroughly fed up with this now.

reenchantmentofeverydaylife · 31/10/2018 14:36

Just a quick update: saw GP this morning and after listening to my tale of tummy woe and examining me, he diagnosed IBS. Not sure what to make of this, as it feels a bit like a 'lifelong diagnosis'. He gave me a printout of info about the FODMAPS diet, which is quite challenging because I'm already dairy-free and almost gluten-free, pescatarian and teetotal. He prescribed something called Mebeverine, since I've tried Omeprazole in the past for reflux and didn't get on with it.

Anyway, hope those of you still suffering are doing better day by day. If not, be sure to check in with your GP. I'm very lucky, mine is sympathetic and always engages with me, so I'm thankful for that.

CornishSummer · 08/11/2018 10:30

How are you all feeling now? I’ve had the same symptoms just over 2 weeks. I had 3/4 days where I was starting to feel normal, then suddenly was overcome with nausea again, feeling tired. I feel back to square 1 again.
It’s really freaking me out, I don’t feel myself at all. It is reassuring to see that others have experienced the same.

Oldmum55 · 08/11/2018 10:50

Hi Cornishsummer I'm a long suffering member of this 'virus club'. Only feeling OK now 8 weeks after and I believe after the original virus there must have been another and in the end post viral. I don't really like to say much as it has happened many times then relapse even if with milder symptoms. So as you say it's reassuring to know there are other people in the same boat! 💐

CornishSummer · 08/11/2018 13:53

Thanks for replying. I had a telephone call with the Doctor who thinks it’s a ‘virus’ also dropped a urine sample to the Doctors this morning but have not heard anything so I’m presuming it’s ok. I think I’m going to push for a blood test, just to put my mind at ease. It’s just making me feel so uneasy... not great as I suffer with anxiety.

Oldmum55 · 08/11/2018 15:07

Do that Cornishsummer I had blood tests done for an unrelated condition but all came back clear so just a virus but will help with the anxiety. 💐

Jen1320 · 09/11/2018 18:42

I have this Aswell, mild nausea for two weeks, where abouts are you all, maybe something going around . My doctor brushed it off as anxiety

CornishSummer · 11/11/2018 10:38

Another visit to the Doctor for me on Friday! I am now on day 18 of the ‘virus’.
Urine is clear. No blood test as I had one in March and it was fine (think it’s something I still need to push for)
My Doctor has prescribed me with anti sickness tablets to help with nausea and another set to neutralise stomach acid, I started taking both on Friday but not seen much of a difference.
The Doctor is pretty certain it’s a virus as I have no ‘red flags’
I am really struggling now however, I have moments when I feel fine then other times I just feel so ill. It’s scary. As I said on a earlier post I have anxiety, but the more this goes on the worse by anxiety is getting. It’s hard to be positive/upbeat when you feel so unwell, and as a Mum to a 5yo I just want to be ‘well’

Oldmum55 · 11/11/2018 12:11

CornishSummer I wish I could reassure you, as I said I had very similar symptoms to yours in the first 4 weeks, after that I had stomach and finally cold/cough symptoms which just confirmed to me it was a virus either same one or different or post. Of course it does seem so strange and having myself health anxieties like yourself, just makes it worse. Give it a while longer then push for blood tests, but believe me I have been there. Flowers

Jen1320 · 11/11/2018 17:08

I’m the same I have a 7 and 2 year old , I went to a and e as I can’t cope with having no answers, they weren’t much good, they did a urine sample and it showed a urine infection but I don’t think it’s related . Going back to the doctors in the morning, I want to get bloods good but I’m also terrified:(

CornishSummer · 11/11/2018 19:13

Just knowing that there are other people feeling the same makes me feel so much better and reassured. I am going to (try) and wake up with a positive mind tomorrow as thats half the battle for me at the moment, I’m worrying so much that I’m seriously ill that I’m making myself worse.
How is your appetite Jen1320? Mine is on & off so I’ve lost a little weight.
