I'm interested in all the symptoms and how long one would be infectious for. TIA.

I've had to do an econsult as my ear feels perforated? Hearing is poor. I have ear popping constantly anyway but this is awful.

Hopefully I'll get seen soon?
I may pop in the pharmacy tomorrow see if they can check it? I know they can only treat dcs.

Still unwell here. Been going on since 28 December. Ears still blocked and I keep catching colds. I’ve had antibiotics and steroid nasal spray. I’ve had enough.

Not unwell anymore, but same issue with ears. I’ve had nasal spray for just over a week and don’t think it’s done anything. GP checked ears and said ear drums were dull, indicating fluid behind

AzureDog · 10/03/2026 12:22

Is that not a infection??

SadSaq · 10/03/2026 21:29

Dr rang me this morning and have an appointment tomorrow. It's always the same at our gp surgery. Econsult then appointment next day.

Has anyone else started suffering headaches after their illness that feel like tension headaches but constant, persisting for weeks and not helped by medication? I went to the GP after three weeks of these and was told to rest, medicate and hydrate. Doing all of these now for six weeks since onset and nothing has helped or changed the severity of the headaches.

I have.

g1c2d3 · 11/03/2026 08:21

@Gonefishingithink, so sorry to hear you are suffering too. Have you managed to see a doctor? How are you coping with the headaches? I managed to have another GP appointment yesterday - this time on the phone - only to be told it’s a tension headache and to keep taking paracetamol and monitor my blood pressure. Oh, and to put ibuprofen gel on my neck. I have been taking painkillers but even the stronger one - Naproxen - the previous GP prescribed has not make any difference. When I mentioned my recent illness and asked whether it could be a consequence of that, GP said they ‘didn’t know’. For the last five days my head has felt under such pressure, as if it will explode. It makes me feel nauseous. It is the same during the night as well, so rest doesn’t make the symptoms subside or go away, unfortunately. I really don’t know what to do and how to function with this, worried that might actually be something more sinister.

teentoddlermum · 11/03/2026 10:50

Came on to say that while the sinusitis x2 has cleared it’s still lingering via sinus inflammation
I have a nasal spray and my GP seems to think it’s normal and won’t refer me to ent

I also have dry eye and thyroid disease- under an ophthalmologist who has done many various checks eye drops and even an MRI and nothing untoward found

im on HRT from January and not even sure if it’s perimenopausal as GP said it’s 50/50

ao now I’m left with fatigue, absolutely wiped out shattered, bloods have come back normal all but one which I’m retesting in a month

I feel my life has not been the same since January getting this virus and I don’t feel the same as I used to so speaking to the GP about depression as i just can’t seem to feel like the old me !

SadSaq · 11/03/2026 16:04

Been to the GP. She's had the same virus and issue. Ear is clear and just a matter of time for it to pass.

I have a nasal spray at the moment for my ears. Have you had ear symptoms? I don’t know how long I’m meant to use this spray! I’ve been using it for nearly 2 weeks and no change over here.

No ear symptoms here - mine said to use til it’s ran out and order another one if it hasn’t cleared by then - from as far as I’m away mine can take weeks into months so maybe the same for ears

AzureDog · 13/03/2026 07:40

Yes that's exactly how I was left after it. Sometimes felt like darting pain and I couldn't tolerate contact lenses either.

Just back from hospital after feeling every dizzy, freezing cold and throwing up several times.

Nothing wrong with me! All tests fine. No infection. Heart, liver and kidney beyond healthy.

Yet I feel so poorly, different from the reason I started the thread but worse in some ways. Managed to keep down two crackers and some plain pasta.

Monday is blood test day as issues with iron, my heart and lungs already.

How are you doing now? Did your blood test show anything?

g1c2d3 · 14/03/2026 09:22

@ChillWith, how are you feeling now, have the headaches disappeared and if so, was there anything that helped? I also felt my lenses uncomfortable, my eyes feel dry. The GP suggested it might be my eyesight that’s the problem, so I quickly booked an eye and lense test - everything is fine. I have started doing some neck exercises, in case the problem is coming from the neck somehow, as initially the headache started at the back of the skull, but so far they haven’t helped. I am convinced, the headaches are a result of the virus. I just don’t know who to turn to now, if that’s the case, as GP was not interested and seemed to think nothing of leaving me to suffer for weeks without trying to find the cause.

ChillWith · 14/03/2026 09:38

@g1c2d3 that's pretty crap of your GP. Mine is usually intolerant of flu/virus type things but I was so unwell and ended up with two rounds of antibiotics. The headaches eventually shifted but it felt like it was the virus leaving my system and were coupled with drenching night sweats before I was finally better. I was drinking hot water with fresh lemon, honey and ginger and used sudafed and paracetamol or Nurofen. Swapped contacts for my glasses, which helped massively. Really hope you are feeling much better soon.

g1c2d3 · 14/03/2026 10:01

@ChillWith, thank you. I am glad you are over it and feeling much better. I also had two different antibiotics as I developed a chest infection that wouldn’t clear, but the headaches started after I was feeling much better and I didn’t get sinus headaches while really ill, so it is a bit puzzling. I thought I was definitely over the actual illness but maybe not yet - I fell ill early December, headaches started end of January. I was coughing for a long time, so maybe this created pressure in the head that caused them. I wish I knew for sure, so I can address the cause properly. Also, I am worried that it might be a coincidence and the reason for them is something completely different than this illness. I have decided to wait another few days and go back to the GP, hopefully I will see a different one who will listen because it is difficult to function normally feeling like this. I am not prone to headaches, so finding this really difficult to cope with, especially as painkillers don’t seem to help to at least ease it a bit.

ChillWith · 14/03/2026 10:42

@g1c2d3 we were ill at exactly the same time with the chest infection too. Yes, my headaches were almost a hangover from the flu virus. Started in base of skull shooting upwards. Felt like the pain I get if I wear a hairband overnight. Definitely speak to your doc if it's continuing and you are worried. It could be a hangover from the virus. As this group shows it's incredibly difficult to shake off. Definitely mention low tolerance of contacts. I found I couldn't hack brighter lights either.

g1c2d3 · 14/03/2026 12:03

@ChillWith, thank you so much for taking the time to reply and reassure me. Sounds like we had a very similar experience with this illness. I strongly suspect the headaches are consequence of it but it is still very worrying how persistent and unrelenting they are. I will be trying the doctors again next week for sure. Thank you once again! 🤗

teentoddlermum · 14/03/2026 19:54

I have awful headaches but I must say I’ve had them building up for a while pre virus but since January when I fell ill the headaches are constant like a tension headache sometimes feels like my head is in a vice but I also have a muzzy head feeling and dry eyes so unsure what mine is
it’s awful and worries me but all my tests have come back clear and my GP is not bothered

g1c2d3 · 15/03/2026 09:24

@teentoddlermum, sounds very much like how my headaches are - pressure and tightness all over. My blood tests last month were also fine. Hope you feel better soon.

ChillWith · 13/03/2026 16:58

No call after the blood tests so assuming heart is fine and I'm not anaemic. Still waiting on appointment for spiro- something test. Still breathless with no help from my inhalers. But just a minor cold now.

Thanks for asking and sorry for delay. Missed this bit.
