I'm interested in all the symptoms and how long one would be infectious for. TIA.

WillowTit · 11/01/2026 09:59

also shoulders aching which is odd
perhaps as a result of stress

This is me today too - and DH is same. Thought we were totally past it by now but the last couple of days we're sore, dry eyes, sinuses hurt, mild headaches and we both have a really sore ear. We are a month in at this stage.

MyNavyLemur · 11/01/2026 14:29

Day 13 for me and the headaches are AWFUL. Now and then just a sharp pain that lasts a few seconds. Not coughing as much now, just left with the head pain and congestion. A nurse just told me I’ve probably got another 2 weeks before I feel normal 😫

ChillWith · 11/01/2026 15:29

Finally better after two weeks feeling awful. Left with a sinus thing but hopefully sudafed will help with that. Weirdly, I started feeling better last weekend so went as far as corner shop and ended up back at square one with shivers and in bed for most of last week. Not working at the moment so could do this but what a crap dose it is! Hope everyone is feeling much better soon.

Pretty much the same here. Day 13. On antibiotics for 4 days - 3 to go. Still feel congested though nose not running or when it is it’s running clear. Cough has gone. Headaches are awful though. And I’m very tired. Another 2 weeks?!! 😣

Are your antibiotics for a sinus infection? I’ve been torn on going to the gp as I haven’t had face pain, just on and off headaches. Nose also running a lot clearer now too! Fingers crossed just a few days left for us 🙏. I know! 2 weeks makes me want to cry! I hope she’s wrong!

Yes sinus infection - all completely blocked and ears very painful. Hubby said my face was rectangular. Antibiotics have really helped. The nurse looked at me and said according to guidelines she should give me 5 days’ worth in 10 days’ time but that she’d give me 7 days’ worth right here right now. :-)

Day about 18 for me and finally all I'm left with is a cough and pain in my chest.

OP posts:
mechanicalpencil · 14/01/2026 20:22

Similar OP, Day 26 for me, feeling much better in myself in many ways but still have a bad cough, shortness of breath and fatigue. Taking everything very slowly.

I'm expecting it to be a few more weeks until I'm fully better. Dr mentioned 6 weeks.

DeanElderberry · 14/01/2026 20:48

Day 39. Much better but still pretty knackered, and getting cold, or even more so, cold and wet causes chest pain.

JTA1972 · 15/01/2026 08:16

Coming towards the end of week 5, still very congested along with ongoing digestive issues from it, its definitely made acid reflux and gastritis worse

PistachioTiramisu · 15/01/2026 08:55

I'm into week 4 now! Gradually improving but still don't feel 'right'.The awful weather doesn't help - it is so dark and gloomy all the time - I don't think it got fully light yesterday at all! Everywhere I go where people are discussing Christmas, at least 50% are saying they were ill so we are not alone!

CandidLurker · 15/01/2026 10:12

I was feeling better but the sore throat has now returned. Still have some sinus issues

MyNavyLemur · 15/01/2026 10:21

Day 17 here. I’ve been having such bad headaches over the past few days, alongside shoulder and neck ache. Anyone else? I have to take paracetamol at least twice a day at the moment 😩

mechanicalpencil · 15/01/2026 10:37

Day #27
Was feeling like it was time to try another short walk again yesterday but have once again woken up feeling worse today: headache, blocked nose and worse cough.
Same pattern.
@MyNavyLemur yes, I have had some horrendous headaches with this and the neck and shoulder ache persistent. A hot cloth on my eyes, ibuprofen and bed was the only thing that helped. Hope you get some relief soon.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 15/01/2026 10:41

Mine started 6th December and is just starting to clear now. It's started to really get me down. I haven't been out of the house for weeks now.

FalseSpring · 15/01/2026 11:50

Day 42 here. The cough has almost cleared up following the second course of antibiotics but I am now left with horrendous sinus pain. One side of my face, from forehead, eyes, nose, cheeks and teeth are agony despite having my head in a towel over a bowl of steaming water every hour or two.

ChillWith · 15/01/2026 12:24

@mechanicalpencil that was my experience. I was given an appt at a winter wellbeing hub and was told to stay in and rest completely until I felt better. It worked but it was two whole weeks of feeling utterly dreadful

When the doctor looked in my ears he said they were full of wax (sorry grim). Went to a clinic to get them sorted this week and the nurse was a former ENT nurse. She recommended something called Neilmed which is a sinus wash thing. I saw it in boots. She said it has the edge over Sterimar. I ordered some Neilmed from Amazon but haven’t tried it yet.

I found this thread even though I had made one previously, can’t believe there are so many with similar symptoms

I’m day 10 and I’ve never been so poorly
I’ve done an econsult as I feel so unwell and they just said to visit a pharmacist and I haven’t yet - can’t bear to leave the house
I did a 111 call just because I felt so miserable and was told to self care at home and call back if no better by day 14
started with flu/cold symptoms but I am out of bed but on sofa with blankets and doing the minimum as I have children so feel so bad for them
I’m coughing constantly, horrible phlegm and the headaches are unreal like a dizzy feeling, right off my food, even ordered a Covid/flu test just to see but that was negative.
the tiredness is unreal, I feel I can’t wake up in the morning and just want to sleep but I obviously can’t today as little one is off nursery
I’ve called in sick as I just can’t bear work even though I can have the option to work from home but I can’t even do little tasks without it flooring me
takimh paracetamol, fluids, early nights and just feel it’s not budging 😭

Sounds very similar to what I had. Someone up thread mentioned Adenovirus. My sister works in the community for the NHS and she said they’d had an email about it. I also had conjunctivitis which can come with Adenovirus and flu. I did turn a corner about day 9. However I wouldn’t say I’m yet back to being fully well.

I’m pretty sure its Adenovirus, i’m nearing the end of week 5, some days I feel better other days I feel like its started all over again, its by far and away the worst virus I have caught in 54 years and its really affected my digestion as well

inigomontoyahwillcox · 15/01/2026 17:10

Day 14 for me - back at work (although only took about a day and a half off in reality as had to work from bed) but still got the hacking cough, especially at night, and cold symptoms. Fever is down though, as are glands. My pelvic floor is screwed from all the coughing though.

MyNavyLemur · 15/01/2026 19:06

It’s so strange. Never had an illness that has lingered on for so long! This must be some new strain of something 🤷🏻‍♀️ everyone I speak to say about it lasting like this and that they’ve also never had something take so long to shift. Hope everyone feels a lot better soon x
