I'm interested in all the symptoms and how long one would be infectious for. TIA.

Day 4 here….reason why I am up so early.

Coughing, runny nose, aches, loss of taste, temperature. It’s really effing miserable, DP has it too.

Keep taking regular pain relief but nothing is touching it…latest is a splitting headache.

Nearly50omg · 30/12/2025 03:44

With your symptoms please go and see your gp - sounds like you have a chest infection or pneumonia and will need antibiotics

Mine feels decidedly viral and not bacterial at the moment. If that changes I would contact my GP but for the time being I'm just nursing myself through the symptoms.

One of my closest friends, whose family I was with for two days over Christmas, walked into a pharmacy on Saturday and was prescribed antibiotics on the spot because hers has turned into a sinus infection. I, on the other hand, have had very little sinus pain with this since the fuller range of symptoms has come out, although leading up to then I had sinus and gum pain for days, so 🤷‍♂️!

Probably takes us in individual ways.

When I spoke to 111 at the weekend the doctor said it was a cold.

Yep started Christmas Eve, still going. I haven't felt this ill in a long time

Peclet · 30/12/2025 09:54

feel a bit brighter today but still very tired and weak. On the plus side I have achieved my goal weight! A first during the festive period!!!

going to have a shower today. And wear actual clothes big day.

How long did it take you @Peclet?

TheHillIsMine · 30/12/2025 09:57

I'm struggling to speak in full sentences at times, other times I can manage it. Feel very cold. Walking down stairs tired me out and having a shower made me more breathless. I started to do the 111 form and it said ring 999 so I rang 111 and they are having someone ring me soon. My oxygen levels dropped to 94 but they are more 97/98 now.

It's so cruel as I have moments where I think I'm getting better then wham!

I hope everyone else feels better very soon.

Me since Saturday evening. Have this week off work and had some lovely things booked in so having a pity party now I've cancelled them all!

Letsbekindplease · 30/12/2025 10:09

I’ve had something for EIGHT WEEKS. it startarted as a really bad cough and cold. Coughed from morning to morning. Wetting myself continuously which wasn’t fun. It started to ease off although I was still left with a terrible cough at times. Last Sunday I felt ill again. I’ve been ill since. Bringing up horrible green sputum. Blocked nose. Sore head. No sense of smell. Terrible, terrible cough. Off my work again !! Dr has sent me for a chest xray and also nose swab/throat swab. It’s not Covid. He said it’s flu or RSV. I had always assumed flu was that you couldn’t get out of your bed. I feel awful though.

HashtagShitShop · 30/12/2025 10:14

Hope you're all feeling better soon.

We are just getting over it. It's taken until today which is 23 days for me to feel "better" (the mucus/full ears with limited hearing, exhausted, sinuses aching, throat etc) but I am still left with the cough and not full strength yet.

Another relative who got it at the same time from the same place is still tight chested, constant cough, congested and full ears and sinuses/nose. She was prescribed antibiotics for a week too last Monday as it had become a chest infection for her.

It's a bloody killer, we both have had the flu jab too!

How long did it take you @Peclet?

I am on day 7, I felt a bit better yesterday but stayed in bed all day and slept for 3 hours in the middle. So not quite right.

I know I need to take it easy though.

still coughing up yuk and snotty too. My sinus s are pretty bad and I might go and see the pharmacist

TheHillIsMine · 30/12/2025 10:36

My head feels fuzzy now. I also had the flu and Covid jabs. Oxygen levels up and down. No appetite. Worried about work.

@femfemlicious yeah me. Nearly fell down the stairs.

I forced myself ti go shopping as I hadn't bought anything for Christmas and I almost fainted I had to keep leaning on the wall and looking for somewhere to sit down...hellish

bumdidliumptious · 30/12/2025 10:59

Day 6 here - completely wiped out over Christmas. Starting to feel better but still unwell iyswim. Have missed all our traditional days out and get togethers. Brutal.

Thingamebobwotsit · 30/12/2025 11:34

Now on Day 7. First time up and about beyond absolute essentials since it started. DC are still struggling and they are about 14 days in. DH looks blooming awful...

Am hoping this is it and I have turned a corner, but it has been so up and down all week I am prepared that I may crash later. It seems to be impacting everyone differently.

baroqueandblue · 30/12/2025 17:28

I had 36 hours of feeling really positive, despite the ongoing symptoms. But in the last few hours I have crashed and feel pretty miserable and pissed off. Today my head has been whooshing and buzzing and juddering and I'm fed up with it. (I like a bit of onomatopoeia but this is ridiculous.) Plus the cough is worse, it keeps ambushing me!

Anyone else, like @Peclet feeling any better today?

TheHillIsMine · 30/12/2025 22:39

I've just got back from nine hours at the hospital. Bloods, X-ray, ECG. Diagnosis is I've got a virus and told to take paracetamol.

Still not sure what to do about work on Thursday.

My son has it at the moment. Came down with it on the evening of Christmas Day and a home test confirmed Influenza A. He had a raging fever until yesterday morning, and still has a very sore throat, cough, headache, no appetite and just utterly exhausted. He's only getting out of bed to practically crawl to the loo.

Is there a home test?

TwilightAb · 30/12/2025 23:06

I started with it last Tuesday. Just a sniffly nose and didn't think too much of it. Christmas day I had a pounding head, tiredness and fatigue, body aches and I was alternating between feeling hot and having shivers. Started to feel better Saturday but have gone down hill agsin and have developed a nasty cough and coughing up lots of green stuff so may need to visit the GP if that doesn't clear up. I'm particularly pissed off as I had flu last Christmas as well and so made sure I got the vaccine this year! None of the rest of my family have had it although my ds has had a slight cough.

femfemlicious · 29/12/2025 17:48

Has anyone had dizziness when trying to move around?. My friend said it must have affected my ears?

Yes, me. Have barely moved in four days.

RoguesMum25 · 31/12/2025 01:12

Yes i think this is what i have though all tests are negative (i took one for my piece of mind and my son is immunocompromised
so needed to know).

The cough i thought was bad enough but i feel so washed out like drunk and hungover at the same time, lightheaded and dizzy etc got chills even though it's summer here runny nose half the time then blocked then sneezing.
I've only had it 2 days hopefully goes away soon.

Mummalovesya · 31/12/2025 03:32

Me and DH have it luckily kids don’t. I’m on day 4 he’s around day 5/6. It’s been awful. I’m still so blocked up, my head is splitting and I’m just so achy. His is now more his chest but we both keep getting temperatures. I felt a bit better yesterday so I done some housework and washing, with in an hour I felt like I’d been hit by a bus again. It’s absolutely awful honestly. Such a great start to the new year

Coffeeblanketandabookplz · 31/12/2025 09:10

Can I ask what people's first symptoms were? Ive woken today with a sore neck and a headache that is behind my eyes. Not sure if ive just stained my neck or if a virus is developing. I never get headaches and its reminding me of the headache I've had both times with covid. But I know neck stain can cause a head ache too. I was at the dentist a few days ago and the assistant was very clearly unwell, red checked and coughing and now im paranoid ive caught what she had.

TheHillIsMine · 31/12/2025 12:14

@Coffeeblanketandabookplz id assume you're getting it so start taking medication and rest up.
