What is this virus from hell?

I’m feeling god rough! Body aches, sore throat, back ache from hell, fatigue, dizzy painful head. I need sympathy and reassurance that I’m not alone because I’m a huge wuss. Countless negative Covid tests and I’m still able to shuffle around but want to cry.
had the worst flu over Xmas last year and am so worried I’m going to get that bad again. Started a bit on Saturday, then got hit by a bus yesterday and getting worse!

And me. The stuff I’m cough up is just rank and my eyes are burning with tiredness. Any recommendations for cough medicine? I’ve had a bottle of broncho stop but it hasn’t. Just can’t be arsed to go to chemist tbh

Ohyay · 20/10/2023 21:18

My eyes are oddly burning and itchy! I find codeine / cocodamol helps with a cough. The leaflet even says it does. Also helps me get some sleep.

Lastchancechica · 20/10/2023 23:21

I am sorry so many are ill.
I am pleased to verify it will end . It took me one mouth and 3 days and I am finally better. Still tired but free of all other symptoms.

I have two observations

You rush getting better and you will go back to the start. On repeat.

Berninaa · 21/10/2023 07:13

@Lastchancechica , I am 26 days on, like you, I am now feeling much better but still tired and my asthma hasn’t settled down yet even though I didn’t have a covid cough.

I’ve had such a busy week at work, really long days. I’ve not moved from my desk all week but I’ve decided to have a quiet day at home, no walk, no yoga, nothing. I’m shattered.

Gfozzy · 21/10/2023 07:51

I thought I might point out something, I went to see my massage therapist and he found that all my lymph nodules were blocked with fluid. This meant my immune system wasn’t working properly. I had a lymphatic drainage massage and although the headache was hell from a few hours after until the following morning, it was so worth it so remove the toxins from my body. My god the sleep that night was insane xx

So thought I was out of the woods and now I have this dry cough and crushing feeling in my chest. Anyone else had this?

LakeFlyPie · 22/10/2023 22:04

I thought I'd recovered and then had a week of hacking cough. Not sure if I dare say it but think I might be on the road to recovery now, am going to brave the gym tomorrow.
Hope you're feeling better v soon gfozzy, you've been enduring this for ages now and hope all the other sufferers are getting better too. Think it's the most lingering / recurring virus I've ever had!

JoanThursday1972 · 23/10/2023 09:43

I've had a really painful throat since 7 October. Well, I started feeling ill then, then the coughing started a few days after. That has subsided but my throat feels raw and painful. I don't know what to do. You can't get Tyrozets anymore over the counter (always my go-to) and seeing a doctor is a total waste of time, they won't give you anything as it is a virus. Lozenges do nothing. I am so pigged off with having a painful throat.

ThreeBearsPorridge · 24/10/2023 10:36

I’ve got some horrible lurgy. Painful neck. Excruciatingly headache. Back pain and feeling a bit sick. Feeling disorientated and exhausted. Does this sound familiar?

Sybila · 24/10/2023 15:00

God it’s grim. I’ve had to come home from work early and I’ve been like this for nearly three weeks. Shocking lurg.

Yes!! The cough kept me awake all night. Never been so exhausted. The chest pain felt like someone was pushing down. It took exactly one week for that cough to dry out and chest pain to clear up. I am now well. 5 weeks today exactly. It’s ghastly and feels never ending.

Now I just feel tired but able to function.

Gfozzy · 24/10/2023 15:54

@Lastchancechica i ended up at the hospital yesterday. Got inflammation of the chest lining but all else ok. Now slightly concerned I’ve come out of there catching something else!
ambulance came and my heart rate was 150 and wouldn’t come down. Luckily it has calmed now but still feel like crap. I’m so over this now 😢

OP posts:
Lastchancechica · 24/10/2023 15:57

Oh no, you poor thing. Jesus. I am not surprised though. Every day I used to wake up thinking I would have to get some medical attention. Did they say why your chest is inflamed?

Lastchancechica · 24/10/2023 15:58

That is a very high heart rate. Terrible worry.

Gfozzy · 24/10/2023 18:31

@Lastchancechica they didn’t say why. Just said they are seeing more of this lately and it’s completely unexplained. Like a new virus attacking people for lengthy periods of time

OP posts:
Smurf123 · 24/10/2023 18:45

@Gfozzy this sounds like me too.. I spent a night in hospital with the heartrate and a ct incase of clot. 2 weeks later and my heartrate is still going mad. Yesterday it went to 142 lying on the sofa. The nausea and dizziness is driving me mad.

Needanewadventure2021 · 24/10/2023 19:30

@Gfozzy I ended up in hospital too last week with similar and I was told the same thing. It's been awful.

I tested positive with exactly the same thing as you fozzy, many have on here too but you seem to have been told by the hospital that it’s a new virus? That inflames the chest cavity? Maybe it is possible to have both? Which would explain the severity. Or this is the new strain the scientists are worried about?

I think the wall of silence/lack of answers isn’t helping, it makes people worry. We have been left with intermittent terrible headaches, racing heart and dizziness. So although on paper we are functioning. And recovered (going into week 6), all of us are chronically exhausted too. What were others told in hospital?

Lastchancechica · 25/10/2023 03:17

Really seriously hope you feel better soon op. Thank you for starting this thread, I felt less alone during the month we were ill because I found it very reassuring that others were experiencing the same thing.
I felt absolutely dreadful for weeks and didn’t worry as much as I would have done without this thread.
I hope you are resting and able to get better 💐💐

sashh · 25/10/2023 04:31

I started with this in late September, I'm getting better but slowly.

My dad is coming down for a visit but I warned him I might have to cancel.

I even had to 'build up' to having a bath even though I knew I needed one and would feel better afterwards.

And rock hard snot - that was a new one, thankfully sporner corner came to the rescue with excellent advice.

Gfozzy · 25/10/2023 05:06

Just to answer a few questions. I was Covid PCR tested in hospital and was negative. All my blood work came back fine, ECG fine, chest xray clear of clots (which they were concerned about)
it’s something they are seeing a large rise in, covid isn’t actually on the up but people are assuming this virus is Covid (maybe not testing)
I continued to test daily throughout and not once was it positive.

now my dear 10 year old son has got it (or something similar) currently sofa bound so we don’t wake the others! Fever, dry cough and snot in abundance but he’s also negative. Now he has had ibuprofen he’s fallen asleep and I’m wide awake!!

@Lastchancechica just re read your post and I’m so glad this has been helpful to you. I also found I was extremely anxious thinking there was something seriously wrong with me but hearing likeminded folk made me feel a little more at ease. Sending a huge virtual hug and glad you are finally on the mend xx

@Smurf123 push for a referral to a cardiologist! They should be performing an echocardiogram and checking the heart function fully as this consistent racing heart is not a normal thing. I unfortunately have had this since may when I had Covid last. Now every time I get sick my heart is racing so fast it’s called tachycardia. It’s always worth investigating

I am sorry your son is so poorly op. I was really worried about my dd too, I can see why you can’t sleep and she was really ill. I hope he gets better soon, and has much milder version than you 🙏🏻

Are you suggesting it might be a brand new virus? It is not flu, as you tested for that. I did test positive but it’s not to say I just had covid. I don’t know. I wish we knew more. My voice box has been damaged by whatever it is, and I sound like Bonnie bloody Tyler now.

Gfozzy · 25/10/2023 07:29

@Lastchancechica you are right I did test for flu and Covid and was neither. The hospital just said they’ve seen a large increase in some kind of virus that’s lingering for 1 month + with varying degree of severity. They can’t tell me what it is but said it’s sweeping the country. Sorry I don’t have any more information! I did get quite angry at one nurse who suggested it was anxiety 😟 but as we all know this isn’t some made up in my head virus
