What is this virus from hell?

I’m feeling god rough! Body aches, sore throat, back ache from hell, fatigue, dizzy painful head. I need sympathy and reassurance that I’m not alone because I’m a huge wuss. Countless negative Covid tests and I’m still able to shuffle around but want to cry.
had the worst flu over Xmas last year and am so worried I’m going to get that bad again. Started a bit on Saturday, then got hit by a bus yesterday and getting worse!

DD and I have similar symptoms. I am negative on LFTs. She’s had two very faint positives but well after the 20 minutes has lapsed. Either way we feel terrible and are staying away from people!

I was like you last Sunday night achey, heady etc and very very faint almost invisible weak line but it didn’t go dark pink until Wednesday morning when I was starting to feel better but by Fri and today Saturday I feel worse again.

HellNoBedBug · 30/09/2023 23:27

@Gfozzy did you have an NHS or buy a private swab to check for flu?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 30/09/2023 23:30

I've had COVID probably 4 times. One of those times none the LFTs were positive, only the PCR. Last Christmas I most definitely had COVID, classic symptoms, felt exactly like I did when I had a bad reaction to my first COVID jab. LFTs were negative. I'm sure if PCRs had still been a thing then thatit would have been positive.

I just don't always seem to test positive on all LFTs. Doesn't even correlate with how bad my symptoms are.

I don’t think it’s Covid either. People saying that Covid isn’t showing up on lateral flow tests at the moment…how do you know it’s actually Covid then? It could be any virus.

Well, because close friends and family who all have the same symptoms getting infected one after the other - some are testing positive and some aren't.

Gfozzy · 01/10/2023 07:06

@HellNoBedBug private flu test. Tests for influenza a&b and was negative so I know it wasn’t flu. Also I am able to get up, albeit feeling bloody awful but when I had flu I was completely bed bound and it took over 6 weeks of recovery. When I had it 7 years ago I was hospitalised.
for me Covid is ALOT milder than the flu. Does it make you feel dog rough? Yes, can it affect other organs? Yes… but the key difference is the flu makes you feel like you want to die, covid just made me feel sorry for myself (these are just my experiences though).
whatever this evil virus is it’s sweeping through my household and has been going around at school wiping people out. I just hope everyone feels better soon. I did manage to go out yesterday but got home around 3 and went to bed for an hour as it took it out of me. Little wins though!

still feel rough today - my eyes hurt. my sinuses hurt. I feel like there’s a clamp on my head.

I have so fucking much to do - one of my dcs is away with a school trip this week and I need to sort stuff and I am struggling to move.

I’m still getting negative covid tests, but bar the cough, this feels like covid.

anonimoxyz · 01/10/2023 10:58

Yep, had this last month. Took ages to shake I'm afraid. I'm still not 100%

Gfozzy · 01/10/2023 15:11

Well I felt better yesterday and then today rough as hell again! It’s just such an inconvenience this virus! Especially when it teases you into thinking you are better. It does feel very Covid like @LimeCheesecake you are right. I just wonder if our bodies are weaker after previous Covid infections and our bodies go into a cytokine storm with every virus therefore feeling the same as Covid as body reacts the same ?! Who knows

It’s really crap the way it feels like you are finally getting better and then you get the next wave of it.

I went for a small jog yesterday as I felt better and it roared straight back, take things very very slowly. I am slightly better today ( day 12) and trying to do some work. So behind. Hope you continue to feel better ❤️‍🩹

GivetheCataBone · 03/10/2023 19:31

I was covid positive via LFT's for 6 days. Had an awful Head cold, runny eyes, blocked nose, so much so that I couldn't breathe and eat. Earache, sore throat, upset stomach, aches in every joint.
I'm now negative but feel totally spaced out and sleeping all the time.

Gfozzy · 03/10/2023 22:10

Thought I would come on here for an update. Still rough as hell, comes in waves. Still covid negative but back ache still dreadful, more snotty now and headiness has come back and awful burn feeling in my throat! I am still not bed ridden (because I can’t be) but I just want this to be over 😭

I am so sorry it is so miserable and painful. Everything passes eventually. Can someone care for your dc? Dh take a day off?

Echobelly · 04/10/2023 06:13

Could still be Covid - several mates have reported 3 family members with same symptoms and 2 test positive for covid, and one doesn't even after several days.

Gfozzy · 04/10/2023 06:47

I think I’m passed caring if it’s Covid or not now but would quite like it to be over. I’m on day 11 now and no sign of let up but you are right. Everything passes eventually and just hoping it’s trying to work its way out. New symptom of excessive sweating today! It’s the gift that keeps on giving 😂

OP posts:
Lastchancechica · 04/10/2023 06:55

Oh it does keep giving alright. Pretty much every symptom anyone can possibly have comes up at some point. It’s almost like someone deliberately designed it that way…..

Day 15 here. I am going to do some work 😮‍💨 and I am feeling better. Lungs feel itchy. Now can’t stop coughing but that’s better than whole body aches and shakes. You are nearly there op!! 💃🏼

Interested to hear from anyone who feels better how long it takes? I’m into my third week here and struggling to function. Hoping we are all better soon

It went round here, and for those who properly ill with it it seemed to last about 10 days (ie ranging 1 - 2 weeks) but even once better, many people were feeling pretty washed out for another week or so, and some symptoms are lingering

This thread has made me think I'm going to start masking in shops again just over winter, absolutely not because of covid but I just cba getting weird random viruses any more after all that time not having them. I also had flu once that was horrendous, for example. I appreciate this isn't for everyone and wouldn't even work for everyone but I just hate nasty viruses and how they knock you out.

I've been masking up on public transport for a couple of months now. There are so many nasty bugs out there and I'll do what it takes to avoid them!

Get well soon to all of those currently suffering Flowers

Kikifava · 05/10/2023 08:57

Thanks @SquirmOfEels that makes me hopeful I must be close to the tail end of it now 🤞

Kaill · 05/10/2023 10:02

I’ve been ill for five weeks now. 2.5 weeks of getting worse, 2.5 weeks of getting better. Still in a lot of pain and not back to normal. It depends how it hits you.

Kikifava · 05/10/2023 10:43

Where is your pain @Kaill ?

Kaill · 05/10/2023 15:51

Muscular pain all over. Thighs, calves, shoulders, arms, hands, back, abs - even the muscles of my face are stiff. Only mild respiratory symptoms but the muscular pain was debilitating. Apparently the new strains of Covid can present like that? 🤷‍♀️

Mine did, it was hellish.
