What is this virus from hell?

I’m feeling god rough! Body aches, sore throat, back ache from hell, fatigue, dizzy painful head. I need sympathy and reassurance that I’m not alone because I’m a huge wuss. Countless negative Covid tests and I’m still able to shuffle around but want to cry.
had the worst flu over Xmas last year and am so worried I’m going to get that bad again. Started a bit on Saturday, then got hit by a bus yesterday and getting worse!

It could be anything. Other viruses are available

Dita73 · 28/09/2023 05:15

I’ve been like this for a week. Started off with a bit of a sore throat and a cough last Wednesday and by Saturday I had a fever and pretty much everything you’ve described. I’ve tested for Covid everyday and they’ve all been negative. My doctor prescribed antibiotics as he thought it was a chest infection but I don’t think it is. I’ve had a lot of chest infections in the past and this is different. Also the antibiotics aren’t helping. It just doesn’t seem to be improving. My appetite has gone now which is weird as I was hungry for the first few days. I also can’t stop sleeping. Just feel completely knackered. I hope it starts to get better soon as I’m so pissed off!

LookUponMyWorks · 28/09/2023 05:41

Went to the GP with similar today after waking with swollen face - turns out it's mumps!

Lastchancechica · 28/09/2023 06:16

It’s the new covid variant.
The stomach pains are one of the most noticeable changes. My medic friend said the old LFTs are not always picking it up.
I am on day 9 today. I am still aching all over - even my eyes hurt. It’s really not fun. The worst one I have had to date. Completely lost my voice.

I am now beginning to worry about the impact of catching covid and being this ill every year is having on our bodies.

Oblomov23 · 28/09/2023 06:20

I had it last week. Colleague gave it to me I think? I was shocked, I was so very ill. Started off with a sore throat, then I couldn't swallow. I was in so much pain and dehydrated and then my diabetes started going mad which doesn't help. I had a fever and I felt so ill and a cough. I just felt really rotten, hadn't felt that ill for years.

ThreeBearsPorridge · 28/09/2023 06:27

I have it at the moment. OH was vomiting and had diorreah. Neither of have tested as we don’t have any tests. I had two bad viruses which I am sure were Covid several months ago but tested negative so I have lost faith in the tests. I just feel very achey, sore eyes, very tired. Slight cough and tight chest.

GlamGiraffe · 28/09/2023 06:30

Covid.
The new strain.
Did you do a tonsil and nose swab with the lft?
I did and came to positive the second the liquid hit the line. Ds and dd just did nose swabs, same thing wrong with them but they've tested negative.
Friend works for the UKHSA and said its manifesting totally differently to the older variants as well as not detecting on lfts so people.

You have my sympathy op, I feel ghastly too.

Gfozzy · 28/09/2023 06:32

I’ve done throat and nose swabs, using brand new tests etc

woken up this morning and my left side of my throat is so raw and the back ache is still awful. Don’t know how else I feel because I’ve just woken up!

sorry I didn’t respond to how long to recover - I’m a week on, I managed to go to work yesterday but didn’t achieve much, had today booked off anyway and got the bare minimum of my list of jobs done and now given up, no energy. The headache has gone though. (Yesterday it was still there but manageable.)

Gfozzy · 28/09/2023 17:37

oh bless you @LimeCheesecake i hope you feel better soon. Only saving grace about this horrible virus is I’m sleeping better at night than I have in months!

Berninaa · 28/09/2023 17:43

I’ve got Covid and feel exactly like you OP, really bad backache, headache, dizziness, extremely sore throat, high temp, eyes ache, stomach ache, nauseous this afternoon for the first time.

Tested positive yesterday, it feels like a bout of flu tbh. I’ve just got up and had a shower, went downstairs and felt really faint so I am back in bed, I’ve slept all day.

Lastchancechica · 28/09/2023 19:59

It’s really bad. Still terrible - day 9. I need to work tomorrow and haven’t any strength. Everything hurts.

Sheraprincessofflower · 28/09/2023 20:37

I’ve had such a sore tummy for 3 days now. It feels like it’s inflamed inside. A little bit nauseous but more off my food than anything. Really sore throat, sore ears and neck, no snot or cough. Have tested negative every day so far. Feel bloody awful and barely out of bed.

Gfozzy · 28/09/2023 21:23

I’m so sorry so many of us are in this situation. I’ve tested again this evening and still negative and also tested for influenza a&b and negative on that too. So many awful bugs swiping through my sons reception class (many with temps nearly 40) I’m hoping this passes soon as my body is quite literally exhausted and having fibromyalgia on top doesn’t help :(

OP posts:
Gfozzy · 28/09/2023 21:24

Oh @Berninaa bless you. I have been testing since Saturday and still negative but we have all the same symptoms. Would love to be in bed all day but have to look after my kids.. enjoy the rest and hopefully the worst days have already passed for you

OP posts:
Kaill · 28/09/2023 22:59

I also have a weird virus at the moment. Last week I had body aches so cripplingly bad that I couldn’t even shuffle around Asda because of the pain. Hands totally fucked, couldn’t hold a fork to eat. Shitting through the eye of a needle. Now I have unbearable mental fog and pressure in my sinuses. But no respiratory symptoms other than a couple of sneezes and a frog in my throat. I tested for Covid 5x over several days but all negative. Doc now saying it must be anxiety induced because there’s apparently nothing wrong with me!

Berninaa · 29/09/2023 04:18

Thank you. I don’t envy you not being able to rest. I remember having flu when DC were little. XH worked away for months on end and looking after little children when you’re unwell is relentless.

Obviously I did it/survived 😂. I’m 20 years older now though.

l hope you manage to get a break.

I’m awake because my back is hurting so much. Flipping COVID.

AussieManque · 29/09/2023 04:33

@Gfozzy Op have you tested your kids too, if they have runny nose and stomach issues. LFTs are so unreliable but you'd hope it would show up positive for one of you if it is COVID. Or you can pay for a private PCR but apparently even those are no longer 100% reliable with new strains.

It's insane that you've had covid 8 times. It just goes to show that the whole herd immunity nonsense is exactly that. We are not gaining immunity through repeated infections and just destroying our health in the process. Get well soon. Be aware of your increased risk of heart attack and stroke resulting from COVID.

Gfozzy · 29/09/2023 06:29

@AussieManque yes have tested everyone including my husband who has now come down with it! All negative.
i had heart issues after my last bout of Covid in May and I’m still waiting on my referral appointment. Seems everyone has suffered with heart issues post Covid. I’ve never ever felt more unhealthy than in the last 3 years

OP posts:
Gfozzy · 29/09/2023 06:31

@Kaill yes. Pain all in my hands and even down my fingers

its not anxiety! Show your doctor this and ask if they want to diagnose us all with anxiety 🙄

AussieManque · 29/09/2023 08:24

@Gfozzy sorry to hear about your heart.
In Australia human meta pneumo virus has taken off. It could be it's reached the UK too? It's a respiratory virus so usual symptoms are congestion, sore throat, fever, general unwellness, lethargy, loss of appetite...

AussieManque · 29/09/2023 08:28

But things like pain in back, headache and in limbs are being reported for COVID too...

madeinmanc · 29/09/2023 08:48

This thread has made me think I'm going to start masking in shops again just over winter, absolutely not because of covid but I just cba getting weird random viruses any more after all that time not having them. I also had flu once that was horrendous, for example. I appreciate this isn't for everyone and wouldn't even work for everyone but I just hate nasty viruses and how they knock you out.

hotcandle · 29/09/2023 08:50

@gfozzy multiple posters have told you the new strain doesn't show positive on the tests.

You have covid.

Lastchancechica · 29/09/2023 09:30

I never cry but I am in tears, I am so ill.
The back pain is excruciating! Why on earth would our backs hurt?

I am now so angry.
There is no herd immunity - this thing is just morphing into more dangerous strains each year. God only knows what it is doing to each of us every time we catch it?
Who has been held accountable?
Why isn’t anyone speaking about this?

I understand we are so sick of it, but we are sleep walking into a disaster this winter. I am a healthy 40s woman and I can barely shuffle to the loo. Fully medicated. I am so sad there seems be a wall of silence….

At the very very least we need urgent campaigns to call for vaccinations NOW for the elderly and vulnerable to prevent thousands of deaths this winter.

WTAF!!
