What is this virus from hell?

I’m feeling god rough! Body aches, sore throat, back ache from hell, fatigue, dizzy painful head. I need sympathy and reassurance that I’m not alone because I’m a huge wuss. Countless negative Covid tests and I’m still able to shuffle around but want to cry.
had the worst flu over Xmas last year and am so worried I’m going to get that bad again. Started a bit on Saturday, then got hit by a bus yesterday and getting worse!

@Gfozzy sorry to hear about your heart.
In Australia human meta pneumo virus has taken off. It could be it's reached the UK too? It's a respiratory virus so usual symptoms are congestion, sore throat, fever, general unwellness, lethargy, loss of appetite...

Can you please tell us more about that?

Berninaa · 29/09/2023 10:28

Probably just Inflammation @Lastchancechica . I’ve resorted to taking my prescription naproxen for it today. It is excruciating.

Gfozzy · 27/09/2023 20:08

Definitely not Covid. Done tests from Saturday until today, every day and still negative

I had it. It was adenovirus.

Musiclover234 · 29/09/2023 10:37

Lots of kids in my paeds ward are coming back positive with covid, more so than in recent months. Very little actual flu so far this year. Rsv is of course on the gradual rise as usual for this time of year.

But there are viruses like adenovirus, parainfluenza, and the human meta pneumo all probably around too this time of year. All of those can make you feel like shit too.

Im sure the repeated covid infections (wether you test or not you still have probably have had covid at least once this year or so) are not doing our immunity to other illness any good tbh.

You are a medic?

Why aren’t we talking about the impact of repeated infection? I have lots of friends already with long covid, heart problems and one with organ damage. The youngest of whom is my friends dd and she is 15. What happens to them if they catch this?

I am seriously concerned not just about the impact on our immunity, but on our organs, hearts, central nervous system. Our whole bodies. People catch flu 1-2 in a life time, not every year.

Are we collectively going to be repeatedly ill until we are incapacitated??

I know you won’t know the answers necessarily, but honestly we need to hear some updated information and prepare for the truth. There is no such thing as herd immunity. This thing mutates every year and the consequences on us could be devastating.

so I think I was over ambitious saying I was better, properly rough again today, so that’s over a week. Sinuses oddly hurt. I have so much to do! Currently sat on a child’s bed that I’ve stripped and so not have the energy to remake. Being sick when you are a grown up sucks.

It does. Get well soon and sit down 💐

AussieManque · 29/09/2023 14:35

@Lastchancechica because it is convenient for the government to pretend that COVID is just a cold. And the UKHSA is led by a woman who thinks the UK should follow the "swedish model" of mass infection, which leads to things like no masking in healthcare settings, no testing and dismantling of data tracking, and the government health advisors have links to shady groups of lobbyists. You could say that it would be convenient for the current government if the NHS continues to collapse due to unremitting pressure from an increasingly sick population.

I hate that it makes me sound like a conspiracy theorist but why else would the government give up on public health? Not helped by the WHO denying it's airborne until it was too late, leading ti everyone hand washing against a disease you inhale...

Incidentally, please sign this petition to bring back masking in healthcare and spread the word! https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/636380

Petition: Protect the NHS and All Healthcare: Require #MasksInHealthcare

We urge the Government to implement a policy requiring mask wearing in all healthcare settings including hospitals, clinics and GP practices for staff, visitors and patients. An FFP2 minimum should be mandated, to protect against infectious diseases, i...

The Guardian ran an article about the latest Covid wave the other day which quoted 14,000 deaths, with Covid as the cause on the death certificate, so far this year.
This god awful government are behaving obscenely on so many fronts, including hiding these figures.

They are not hidden - they are freely available but no one is interested. Nothing to do with the gov, people can not bring themselves to allow it back in their lives.

The truth is the vaccines aren't working. Thats the truth they are hiding.

At best they might minimise symptoms.

Oblomov23 · 29/09/2023 17:58

I was so ill last week, such a sore throat. Haven't been that ill for more than 10+ years.

SoftPillowAllNight · 29/09/2023 18:06

I had similar - a bit of fever, chills, aches - back and legs. No cold/cough/sore throat/ breathing difficulty. Saw the GP who ruled out Covid and said it's a viral. Reading this thread - maybe it was Covid! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gfozzy · 29/09/2023 21:52

I’m still not convinced it’s covid. Most people who I know who have got covid now are all testing positive on lft.
whatever it is it’s crippling, today the pain in my head was awful and still chills/shivers, general malaise and wanting my bed. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to rest so tonight I feel very worn out

hope we all get over this soon!!

I don’t think it’s Covid either. People saying that Covid isn’t showing up on lateral flow tests at the moment…how do you know it’s actually Covid then? It could be any virus.

Shadypaws23 · 30/09/2023 01:20

Lastchancechica · 29/09/2023 09:30

I never cry but I am in tears, I am so ill.
The back pain is excruciating! Why on earth would our backs hurt?

I am now so angry.
There is no herd immunity - this thing is just morphing into more dangerous strains each year. God only knows what it is doing to each of us every time we catch it?
Who has been held accountable?
Why isn’t anyone speaking about this?

I understand we are so sick of it, but we are sleep walking into a disaster this winter. I am a healthy 40s woman and I can barely shuffle to the loo. Fully medicated. I am so sad there seems be a wall of silence….

At the very very least we need urgent campaigns to call for vaccinations NOW for the elderly and vulnerable to prevent thousands of deaths this winter.

WTAF!!

The vaccines are available and people are taking them
My dad queued for an hour for his, and I had mine at a vaccine centre which was really busy (was the youngest there by a long way! Immunocompromised)

The severity. What I have isn’t a normal virus. I’ve had flu etc before, and this is way too severe to be flu. The only virus I know that literally incapacitates people is Covid.

Babybearissleeping · 30/09/2023 03:19

@Kaill have you not heard of the 'flu test?' For real flu you would feel too unwell to get out of bed even if there was £50 on the floor.

Proper influenza is really incapacitating and can take weeks to get over.

Problem is today people use the term 'a flu' for any virus and so think flu isn't that severe

Daddylonglegs123 · 30/09/2023 05:51

This sounds a bit like me stiff neck, heady, achey limbs.,Testing negative until about day 5 when symptoms seemed to ease then finally tested positive. Then symptoms changed to heady and blocked up. I have been sleeping better and longer on a night. Hope you feel better soon OP.

WeWereInParis · 30/09/2023 07:01

But flu can be really severe, and can definitely incapacitate you. I'm not saying it is flu, but I don't think "it's too severe to be flu" is reasonable.

Sheraprincessofflower · 30/09/2023 07:36

That is inaccurate though. I’ve had many many viruses over the years that have been severe and have not been flu. About 5 years ago I had something absolutely awful that knocked me off my feet for 2 weeks and left me weak for another couple of weeks. Body aches, a terrible cough, high temperature, sore throat, snot, I couldn’t get out of bed. If I had it now I’d take lateral flow tests because I’d be so sure that it was covid, but it was in 2018 so it can’t possibly have been. It wasn’t flu either - it was well out of flu season and I did a flu test to check. Sometimes there are just particularly nasty viruses. I can see someone getting one or two false negatives either from testing for Covid too early or using an old batch of tests but you will eventually test positive if it is covid.

Sheraprincessofflower · 30/09/2023 07:39

And as @WeWereInParis says, flu can be extremely severe. It kills people every year. Many people have Covid far milder than flu.

at this time of year though it is unlikely to be flu - but adenovirus is pretty rude and RSV is on the rise so people could have a vicious bout of one of those. My money is on a nasty adenovirus because lots are getting stomach symptoms too.

Alright, well I’ve never heard of a flu that makes your muscles seize up for a month with no respiratory symptoms at all. I was so stiff and painful I couldn’t walk or use my hands. Even my face muscles were seizing up. It’s taken a month to recover enough to walk 500m. Doc says there’s absolutely nothing wrong with me “it must be a virus”. What on earth virus is even capable of doing that? (except maybe Covid which has some bizarre symptoms)
