What is this virus from hell?

I’m feeling god rough! Body aches, sore throat, back ache from hell, fatigue, dizzy painful head. I need sympathy and reassurance that I’m not alone because I’m a huge wuss. Countless negative Covid tests and I’m still able to shuffle around but want to cry.
had the worst flu over Xmas last year and am so worried I’m going to get that bad again. Started a bit on Saturday, then got hit by a bus yesterday and getting worse!

I've been sick since the start of August. In fact August 4th exactly. I went to the doctor on the 11th and was told it wasn't strep throat and was viral and I would just need to rest and get over it. He said he thought it would take 3 months (!!) and they are seeing a lot of viral infections taking longer than the normal week or so to clear.

I didn't see any improvement until the last 2 weeks and I'm now gradually getting better.

It started with ulcers in the throat, sore throat, tiredness, flu-ey type feelings. Throat is a bit better now but the fatigue that came with this is like none other I've experienced.

MyheartgoingBoomBoomBoom · 13/10/2023 22:40

I’ve got it (whatever it actually is?) too. Started 15 days ago, my dc (18 and 15) had it and they are all back to normal but I (old and 50) feel absolutely whacked out.
It has mainly been a cough (and a bit bunged up nasally) but the last few days I’ve felt totally exhausted, I just want to sleep and everything feels like a monumental task, like someone else mentioned just walking the dog leaves me feeling the need for a kip.
And when will this bloody cough ever go away?

Blinky21 · 13/10/2023 23:24

I've been ill for 7 weeks with what was diagnosed as viral bronchitis. Cough from he'll, chest pain, really sore muscles and joints, sinus congestion. Cough is only just going and I'm able to function but massively fatigued. Saw the doctor 4 times and was hospitalised for chest x rays.

Gfozzy · 14/10/2023 07:08

Isn’t it strange how we now can’t shift standard viruses. Usually 7-10 days of feeling a bit shit and you were over it, this is horrendous. I literally wake up every day to see what the new symptom is.
it’s odd that it has the same traits of Covid/ mixed with flu. So I would say worse than Covid but slightly milder than the flu, it’s ever changing symptoms are like no other virus I’ve incurred and I’ve had Covid 8 times.
im all for just “getting on with it” but this is very difficult to ignore and to be on pain relief for over 3 weeks seems crazy but hey no point seeing a doctor to just be told it’s a virus and get on with it 😢
sorry we are all in the same miserable club

It's really getting me down now. I ended up being signed off and am due back in next week. Yesterday I felt slight relief from the aching but was still coughing until I was sick. Today I have woken up feeling like a bus has hit me. Honestly feels like it's back at the beginning. Doctor has put it down to a nasty virus, which considering my bloods are overall ok, I'd agree. But I'm late 30's, very active and just walking up the stairs is exhausting me. Ive hung out washing a few items at a time as I have no energy. I'm now panicking that I go back to work in a few days to a very demanding job, still feeling like I'm being crushed and a cough that has an awful wheezy whistle to it

TartBlueberry · 14/10/2023 10:48

I'm 50 too @MyheartgoingBoomBoomBoom and it has really floored me. And I was fit and healthy with no underlying conditions. Goodness knows how immunocompromised people manage this virus. I haven't even been able to walk the dog for all this time, I've just been too ill. Today is the first day in just over 2 months that I can honestly say I might be on the road to recovery!

Nat6999 · 14/10/2023 19:21

I had the doctor out yesterday, I've got an infection in the bottom of one of my lungs, got given some vile antibiotics, make me feel very sick, it says I should have food with them but I just can't face any food, not had anything to eat since Tuesday, I'm struggling to drink anything more than the odd sip.

Lastchancechica · 14/10/2023 19:36

Day 25
Turned a corner ( I think! Pray)
I still have the cough from hell.
Occasional banging headache
But the long list of other symptoms is now receding.
Still can’t smell very much. Not even bleach.
I tire very easily. A crippling exhaustion that I can not shake. Finding it hard to operate normally.
There is hope people.

How are you op? 🙏🏻

Gfozzy · 15/10/2023 07:03

@Lastchancechica thank you for asking. Still have awful gastro symptoms even waking me at night. The aches come and go and I feel like I need to stretch my back out constantly, lower leg pain has got worse but I’m used to that with my fibromyalgia. Fatigue is still kicking my arse but again it’s something I’m used to. I’m 35 but feel about 85. I am hoping one of these days I will wake up feeling my normal but not so far

The back pain is excruciating. It’s really strange. I have never had that before with anything else. I felt like my whole brain was inflamed too.

I am so sorry you are still so ill. It gets you down after a certain point. I am worried and wonder what on earth it is. It’s quite unlike anything else.

Berninaa · 15/10/2023 07:18

Agree with the back pain. Agony, constant agony.

useitorlose · 15/10/2023 07:20

I had the same and did a PCR test on day 5, it came back negative. Took 2 weeks to feel normal again.

Gfozzy · 15/10/2023 09:04

@useitorlose you are very lucky with only a 2 week stint. Some on here have been months. Mine started 23rd of September and still going 🙄

useitorlose · 15/10/2023 18:44

Sorry to hear that @Gfozzy I hope you are soon on the mend. I normally do bounce back from colds etc very quickly so two weeks was a really long time for me compared to usual.

LakeFlyPie · 15/10/2023 23:38

After another recurrence of temps last week and feeling completely wiped out (2 days off work spent sleeping) I've now got cough from hell and my lymph nodes in armpits are starting to throb again. Am well and truly fed up of this now

Gfozzy · 16/10/2023 07:27

Oh @LakeFlyPie im so sorry. This is truly a cruel cruel virus

Needanewadventure2021 · 16/10/2023 14:19

I'm meant to be back at work this week but feel rubbish. I'm so breathless and riddled with aches, nausea and itchy skin. My cough is awful. I wish they allow me to phase back in slowly as my energy levels are so low

GotMooMilk · 16/10/2023 14:25

I've just posted about similar- I feel the same. 6 days now of feeling dreadful with no improvement. I have really severe sinus pain with pressure in my head too but the generalised body aches are awful.
Scared me seeing people have been unwell for 8 weeks + with this! Every day I hope I feel better and the morning and wake up gutted that I'm not. I am just well enough to drag myself out of bed and take the kids to school but certainly not fighting fit. Getting sick of it and spending a fortune on cold and flu remedies!

Gfozzy · 17/10/2023 18:40

Another moan from me, 2 days of feeling quite average and then kid gets sent home from school with high temp and headache…. I know it’s heading my way!! Honestly could cry. Already have a scratchy sore throat assumed it would be still from previous virus but now concerned I’m just getting battered from all corners 😭

Whoknowswhatanymore · 20/10/2023 08:26

Another one joining with all similar symptoms, had it two weeks now, muscle aches, lower back kills, fatigue, crippling migraine headaches day after day and feel like my head is in a vice, sinus pressure but no other respiratory issues, nausea, cannot concentrate and have no energy and just feel really really unwell. Took multiple covid tests and all negative.

Kaill · 20/10/2023 08:53

@Whoknowswhatanymore I’m comforted that there are several of us with this non-respiratory virus that’s causing muscular pain and fatigue. I think some posters are talking about something different entirely because they have flu-like symptoms. This weird virus that causes nothing but pain is very unusual and worrying.

HeadAgainstWall0923 · 20/10/2023 09:00

I’ve recently got over an horrendous virus.

One day I started feeling achey and shivery and by the next morning I was in an awful way. Headaches, coughing, agonising sore throat, absolutely no energy, muscle aches, horrendous sinus pain, fatigue the lot. I was taking paracetamol and ibuprofen every 6 hours and I just felt so, so ill. I couldn’t get out of bed for 5 days and it was a good 10 days in total before I started to feel more like myself.

I was testing myself for Covid every other day but each test was negative.

It was awful.

Smurf123 · 20/10/2023 09:16

I have this. Been thinking I'm going mad. Cold sinus symptoms started mid September. Then cough about 2 and a bit weeks ago. Heart keeps racing, fluttering, resting heartrate in the 90s often 100 overnight average was 83. Several times yesterday it's up at 130 doing nothing folding clothes, eating makes me nauseous. I'm 34 not 90 😫

JoanThursday1972 · 20/10/2023 13:13

Really fed up of having a sore throat now, it is no joke.

Ohyay · 20/10/2023 13:23

Covid negative. But woman down over here. My back is sheer agony. Fairly fit 30 something. Every inch of my body hurts.
