Hi girls,

I know it's a little 'in yer face' but i felt we needed a huge reminder everytime we posted each other!

Fresh start for Monday then!!

OP posts:
Twink · 19/09/2004 22:13

EXCELLENT MM, let's hope it focuses everyone.

New week, FORGET the hiccups last week guys and just do it !

CC if you need to splint all your fingers & use yucky taste stuff then do !

FG if you find a fag in the house squash it up and stick it down the loo (he'll soon learn not leave them around)

(Quick question, you all seem to be going 'cold turkey' is there a reason why you're skipping patches etc ?)

Come on, you all know there will always be a reason to give in (yes, GIVE IN) EVERY day & EVERY week & EVERY year of your lives so stop making excuses & feeling sorry for yourselves and accept it is one of the hardest things you will ever do.

FG, you asked the other day whether there was ever a time when I could see the benefits of quiting; I always could, but my dh always struggled with that concept. He'd smoked 20+ Marlboro for years, never coughed, never had the side effects that I suffered and swore blind after he'd stopped (his choice, he didn't tell me at the time he'd quit when I first did) that he couldn't concentrate on his studies/work and really felt that giving up hindered his work for quite a long time after.

That was 14 years ago, and after I read your question, I asked him what he thought now. The unequivicable answer: 'without a doubt, it was still the nicotine talking, ANY excuse to fall back into it, it's an evil drug and plays many tricks on our rational behaviour' Dh is the most logical person I know by a very long way and yet it could still play tricks on him.

You all need to find some method of fighting it whenever it jumps up and bites, I wish I could do it for you ...

FOCUS tomorrow, I hope I'll see you back here after a good day. Good luck xx

Aero · 19/09/2004 22:27

You go girls!!!

minkmama · 19/09/2004 22:37

Thank you twink and aero, it's a great help to hear others cheer you on

Actually, I personally haven't ever gone cold turkey, did that once when I was about 21 and was the nightmare girlfriend from hell and it was NOT pleasant. Since I still love my dh very much (he was the poor lad who bore the brunt of it all that time ago) I don't want to put either of us through that kind of strain!! I have been using lozenges this time - when i quit before having ds1 and ds2, i used tiny tablets which don't appear to exist anymore!

and btw i have been clean for a week now!! (smug, sorry )

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 19/09/2004 22:55

Good luck everyone! You can do it!

minkmama · 19/09/2004 23:14

Can i just say that having re-read this, i didn't mean to sound judgemental girls!!! i REALLY hope it didn't come across that way Just wanted to re-focus all of us for good!!!

OP posts:
fionagib · 20/09/2004 10:40

You sound great & inspiring, not judgemental at all, you never are mm. A week off cigs - brilliant!
I have my patch on and NO CRAVINGS! dd yelling for me, gotta dash...

littlemissbossy · 20/09/2004 10:42

Yes, good luck everyone!
I stopped smoking over 10 yrs ago and have never looked back - if I can do it, anyone can

minkmama · 20/09/2004 11:55

I actually feel very inspired at the mo, not sure why, nothing diff has happened, just feel focused for all of us!

Need to haul cc out of her 'rut' tho, does anyone fancy a drive down to her place with a mallet ?

actually had a chance to get on here before pm, wonders will never cease...

OP posts:
minkmama · 20/09/2004 11:55

btw, did you get much done fg?

OP posts:
minkmama · 20/09/2004 11:56

oh and it makes a BIG difference using a substitute doesn't it?!!!

OP posts:
fionagib · 20/09/2004 15:00

Yeah it does mm. I don't know why I didn't do that before, idiot I am. Think I got to the point last week where I'd failed so often I knew I'd have to try a different tack...

Am still feeling fine, mum here for 4 days and is a big help with kids & fund to have around, good company. So should be a good week, then it's whitby with my two non-fagging friends.

Got loads done at the weekend, thanks, mm! First draft is half done. Sat there clattering on laptop in a vile fug of smoke. Feel very excited & happy about the book now instead of scared s*less. I know it seems v indulgent going to a hotel & all that but it's always helped me turn a corner when I've been stuck. I do it about once a year (go to a hotel I mean!!)

cc, you're v quiet today - how are you? Not craving too badly I hope...

Twink - your tips are great, thanks, as mm said it's good to have someone on here who has actually cracked it. You're an inspiration. And Lipsty - your reasons for quitting mirror mine pretty much exactly!

Think how good we're all gonna feel in a few weeks when the worst bit is over. xx

minkmama · 20/09/2004 18:24

WHAT, you've already finished half a book, even if it's a first draft?!!! What are you, super-typist/writer? I don't think it's indulgent at all, v. necessary actually. how can anyone write at home surrounded by ordinary things is beyond me! roald dahl used to write in the shed at the bottom of his garden, i always wanted one of those

good to know you are on form and having loved ones around is always nice. does your mum live far away from you?

had a good day and actually forgot about them most of the time...

OP posts:
fionagib · 20/09/2004 19:45

glad you had a good day mm - hardly thought about them eh - that is a move forward!

ist draft will needs loads of editing & fixing at a later stage but I have till Jan to submit it, which is feeling less scary after the weekend.

Just smoothed on some of your mood swings oil - smells lovely! I have quite a bit left. Think cc must slather more heavily than I do!!

WHERE ARE YOU CC? Come on hon, join us, we have a lovely new thread & you're being missed!

The patch has helped hugely today. Dh says I should get a catsuit kinda thing made out of them for a really massive dose.

Mum lives about 90 min drive away cc, on west coast of scotland (we're kind of in the middle). She is upstairs reading dd FOUR stories. I only ever read one!

A shed - that would be fantastic. Just have a tiny workroom where I blether to you folks.

How is everyone else doing, any new quitters wanna join us?

Day one has gone well!! Am knackered tho, was up till 3 a.m. last night - guess dh must have got lonesome over the weekend..

so after shooing boys to bed am gonna have mink-oil bath, glass of wine & say na-night xxx

fionagib · 20/09/2004 19:49

Oh and Twink, it's v helpful to think of your dh reckoning that quitting hampered his work/concentration - guess it was just one of those illusions and as you say, a reason think sod it, and have one (being fuzzy and blank on work days was my main excuses for fagging it last week).

The patch has taken away the fuzziness thank god, just don't think I can do this cold turkey.

competitionwinningCOD · 20/09/2004 19:51

fiona I just cant see you as a smoker

minkmama · 20/09/2004 21:22

LOL at body suit idea!!!! have a great bath and rest, you deserve it!

it's great having mums around isn't it!!

where are the rest of you lot? did my thread title scare you off?!!!!

OP posts:
Twink · 20/09/2004 22:08

Hey CC where are you ? Even if you've had a crap day, come out from under your rock, please.

pixiefish · 20/09/2004 22:37

Good luck everyone- its worth it. Just think of yourselves smoke free and happy and healthy and attractive and smelling nice...

minkmama · 20/09/2004 22:56

how is it that i'm the only one here?!! i know fg is off bathing, but where is everyone? just want ot know how you are all feeling...

OP posts:
fionagib · 21/09/2004 10:06

Morning folks! Day two - been for a run which nearly killed me due to excessive smoking at weekend, back for 2 breakfasts (v hungry), patch now on & feeling fine...

hope you're doing ok this a.m. mink.... oils were lovely last night, have gona all 'needing nice smells around me' again!

Compwinning cod - is it you Coddy? - I have smoked on and off, mainly on, for twenty years. Vile huh. My 'natural' smoking pattern is v v gluttonous, ie chain smoking in evenings, could prob smoke 2 fags at once. I used to tell myself that I would be 'me' if I didn't smoke, that it was part of me, which is absolute tripe of course as am sure twink will testify! Just the bloody drug talking.

Thanks for kind & supportive words pixi!

am gonna get on with work & check in before kiddie pick up from school....

competitionwinningCOD · 21/09/2004 10:07

fiona !( says in shcoked mother way)

competitionwinningCOD · 21/09/2004 10:08

sorry
I dont like smoking. sorry

minkmama · 21/09/2004 12:08

LOL CWC!! it is true though, love my mum & dad to bits but never want to smell like them in 30odd years time!

am doing fine this morning, a little ratty with ds1, but he wasn't letting me watch sunset beach and wanted to watch BOB instead!!! i won that match tho and he ended up sitting next to me watching it too...

am lozenging at the mo but feeling fighting fit!

OP posts:
fionagib · 21/09/2004 17:01

me too, and I do know what you mean Cod about vera duckworth - that older person with fag hanging out of mouth, not a good look...

gotta rush to do kids' tea, hardly thought about fags due to this fantastic invention - THE PATCH!

Or maybe it's mm's fresh new thread that's done it?
f xx (non stinky! At least not stinking of cigs)
ps be harsh coddy as much as you like!

bundle · 21/09/2004 17:05

I didn't think Vera smoked (Jack did)
