Hi girls,

I know it's a little 'in yer face' but i felt we needed a huge reminder everytime we posted each other!

Fresh start for Monday then!!

How lonely is this thread today???????????????

Posey · 25/09/2004 21:14

Sorry you've been chatting to yourself CC.
Glad you're doing well with the lozenges. I hadn't heard of them before. My failed attempts include using patches (which made me feel really strange), gum (which I detested) and the inhalator thing (which I found the most useful).

We had the night from hell last night so bang goes my theory about ds's sleeping habits. He was awake so much of the night, I think he's becoming nocturnal.
And poor dd was sick in her sleep. She didn't even know about it, the first I knew was when the stench of sick hit me as I popped into her room to check on her. She'd obviously sat up, leaned over the side of her bunkbed and splattered it all over the floor. I had to wake her up to get her cleaned up

So today we're all feeling a bit washed out but I still haven't smoked. Dh is pretty supportive but doesn't make a huge fuss (he's seen me fail before after very little effort on my part!)
He gave up smoking several years ago, went cold turkey but was kind of frightened into stopping because of some health problems.
But I think he's quietly confident that I'll succeed this time, as I've never gone this long before and am not in a total strop all the time.

charliecat · 25/09/2004 21:16

wEL dONE YOU POSEY!!!!! OOps wrong way with the caps button. hope your kids are better soon, dont you love the bunkbed spatter? Ive had that a couple of times with dd. Hope you get some sleep soon.xxx

Posey · 25/09/2004 21:40

The thing she was most upset about was that Thomas, her beloved cuddly cat, got covered! Seeing him swimming in a bucket of soapy water then being in the spin drier really upset her! He's now in the airing cupboard getting thoroughly dried.
BTW in answer to your dream, I would have chosen dh. My first love ended over 18 years ago and I'm fairly sure we'd be totally incompatible now, though it would be quite interesting to see what he's like now (haven't set eyes on him for around 14 years) How long ago was your first love?

charliecat · 25/09/2004 21:41

10 years ago when I was a mere 15 have you looked up yours on Friends reunited?

Posey · 25/09/2004 21:56

Oh yeah! He's one of those irritating people who didn't put any details on though. we were together throughout the 4th/5th/L6th form at school and I think a lot of people thought we'd stay together. But by the time we started in U6th, I decided I really needed to spread my wings a little. I never wanted to have any regrets about not experiencing more, and never regretted finishing it. I moved away the next year and although I saw him a few times after that (we were part of the same group of friends who met up in holidays etc), never wanted to rekindle things.

charliecat · 25/09/2004 22:03

That sounds nice! I am sitting here rattling away without my dose of nicotine, cant be arsed going upstairs for it..

codswallop · 25/09/2004 22:36

br you stinky mare

charliecat · 25/09/2004 22:37

CW! Thats not nice!

charliecat · 26/09/2004 09:38

Wont be talking to myself today, gonna unplug the pc at the mains(!) and get on with some house work, also need to go shopping, get the whole lot of us bathed and nit checked(kids at nursery have had them and I cant bear the thoought of us having them) and visit some friends too. Hope everyone has a good day TTFNxx

Posey · 26/09/2004 20:10

Hope everyones had a good day. Dd seems to be over the bug, and so far no signs of it in ds. Hope he escapes without getting it.
Both in bed early, and dh will be home from work shortly, and after a good nights sleep with ds last night I don't feel like hitting the sack too early for once.

minkmama · 27/09/2004 00:49

i'm still alive by the way, just no time to visit my friends . always thinking of you lot and how you are all doing!!

posey, ds1 has a beloved raggedy rabbit that really doesn't even have any ears anymore and we have to wash him on a weekly basis. i'm lately letting him put mr rabbit in the machine himself and telling him that he needs a bath! seems to be slightly cautious about it but happy enough for me to wash him! how old are dd and ds? poor you about the non-sleeping !

don't want to see my first love...bad break up (still feel guilty ot this day!) but still check up friends reunited to see if he's there and what he did with his life!! similar to you posey, needed to 'release' myself from the relationship adn ended up meeting dh instead

sorry about the very late join in on the conversation!!!!

night night all xx

Morning, must confess to having a joint last night but it was the very last of the herby stuff. Of my stash anyway and it was to preserve lozenges as I only have 4 left, they will do me till this afternoon and then ill be swopping over to mums nicogum that she doesnt like till my ebay stuff arrives.
These lozenges make it piss easy dont they MM?????????
Ohhh im rattling...pop suck sorted!
Wheres FG??

woodpops · 27/09/2004 08:40

Shit, shit, shit, shit. I had 2½ of the flaming things yesterday. Tasted absolutly awful but started a new diet on Friday, a total meal replacement, by yesterday I was missing food that much I thought sod it I've got to have 1 little pleasure so I had ½ of dh then another 2 later. .

charliecat · 27/09/2004 13:37

Dont beat yourself up about it WP on the other thread I did something similar and ended up waking up each day so depressed with myself id smoke and just want to bang my head on a brick wall.
If you cant do it cold turkey...again, then I recommend the lozengers....
Dont let it be a slip into a full ashtray, just a few puffs in a long road to recovery.
They didnt even taste nice after all...
Hugs. It shit. I know..

Mum2girls · 27/09/2004 14:15

I've thought about you all on this thread whenever I've seen it and deliberated over posting this, in case I alienate anyone, but I've decided to go ahead.

I'm not writing this as a purer than pure non-smoker as I gave up many years ago after a number of failed attempts. But, if anyone is wavering, and if this helps harden even one person's resolve, then I won't be sorry I posted.

In July this year I watched as my lovely Dad (just 70) starved to death in hospital all because of the bloody fags. It was truly heart-breaking.

He had begun to develop pains after eating and we all thought it must be some kind of horrible cancer somewhere in his body. After a full body scan however they pronounced every major organ cancer free (as far as they can). The problem was his arteries were so furred up, they closed down his digestive system. They tried to feed him in other ways, intra-nasally etc. but he was violently sick after each feeding session.

In case I've scared anyone half to death, I should qualify this depressing post by saying my Dad had smoked heavily from his very early teens, (although in later years he'd switched to low tar fags), so it was real long term damage.

As I said at the beginning, I really hope I've not done the wrong thing by posting this....and you all have my support and admiration as I do know how difficult it is.

charliecat · 27/09/2004 16:01

Aww Mum2girls poor you and your poor dad .
It really is such a shit of a habit, well addiction and thats why we are all trying to stop.
My dad too died of Lung Cancer and although I didnt know him at the end I knew that the little diddy coffin they put him in the ground meant that the cancer had well and truely eaten him up as hed been a big strapping man and this coffin looked so thin, it was almost child size.
He wasnt a nice man or dad though and most people thought he got what he deserved. He beat up everywoman he ever had, he fathered children here there and everywhere and beat the shit out of many a nice bloke for no reason other than he could..and im afraid to say he did get what was due to him.
I think they should stop selling fags personally, and give all of us smokers nicotine replacement until we get over it.
Its criminal that ever corner shop sells them , I mean they dont do ANYONE any favours.
How long and how many attempts did it take for you to finally give them up?

fionagib · 27/09/2004 16:09

Hi folks - have missed you! Apart from opening post (dreary post) coming on here is the first thing I've done since walking in after 5 hour drive...

Had LOVELY time with mates & their kids, patch on every day - as no one was smoking hardly thought about them at all (tho was a bit ratty with dh on phone each morning before I'd slapped my patch on).

So I think this is day 8.... am feeling pretty good & optimistic.

So glad to hear you've not wavered folks - and woodpops hope you're back on track now, don't get into self hatred, we've all tumbled back into the ashtray now and then,
Fresh start huh...
love fg xxxx

charliecat · 27/09/2004 20:15

Hello Fg glad you had a good time and didnt find yourself chuffing away regretting every puff. We missed you too..MM was away for so long I thought shedd done a bunk with you and youdd left me behind

minkmama · 27/09/2004 20:21

glad to know you had a good time fg, thought about you when the weather here was crap and hoped you had faired better in whitby!

wp, get back on track girl...like everyone else has said, we've blipped and i personally have used the 'just one' thing to extend to 'just until whenever'...IT DOESN'T WORK!! refocus and remember where you were before those nasty nico devils grabbed hold of you!!!

this is my short bit for the day, i'm well, getting a bit sad about mumand dad leaving tho. i'm always checking if everyone's okay even if i don't have time to post! don't forget little old me

Posey · 27/09/2004 20:25

Hi again!
Well dd wasn't better after all so I've had her home all day. One minute she felt okay, the next feeling sick with tummy ache. Anyway a couple of friends called round with a card they'd made her and her best friend rang her up (their first ever phone conversation as they're both a bit phone phobic. Very sweet). Anyway she's now in bed and hoping for a good night so she can go back to school tomorrow.
Sorry not sure who asked me, but dd is 7 and ds is 21months.

fionagib · 28/09/2004 10:06

Hope your dd gets better v soon posey...

anyway, morning girls, v short post as kids off school (school hol) & being v rowdy... still fine, tho must be v slightly tetchy as dh keeps saying, 'are you okay?' Feel a very teeny air of irritation about me, like the patches aren't quite masking all symptoms - which of course they can't. But think am coping okay, despite comments from dh such as 'you're definitely gonna smoke at your [40th b'day] party!' Cheers mate!!! We've both had this haven;t we cc - the smoking partner being a bit iffy about our efforts!

Better dash, got no food in the house... am going to glasgow for the evening so may not check in till wed... xxxxxx good luck girls

charliecat · 28/09/2004 11:32

Ive kept both the kids off school today as ...cringe lol...I had a spot just beside my eye and it really swelled up yesterday like a 50p mountain size, managed to cover it up with my hair, went to nursery noone noticed, thought id got away with it...but this morning I woke up and the swelling had gone from my spot to my eye lid {!!!!!!!!!!!!!} and I looked like a halloween monster.
Thankfully its sort of gone down now but I didnt go into nursery as I would have scared the children. All for the sake of a spot.
Hope ive gave you a good giggle!
The kids are wrecking the house and im going to have to spend the rest of the day tidying up.
Have to confess to a few fags inbetween my lozengers arriving...couldnt deal with the gum it was REVOLTING and mums had it so long its no longer gummy, just bitty and rot.
But i didnt enjoy any of them I was just supplying the nicotine till I got my lozenges back.
Not even gonna think about it and am gonna make damn sure I dont run out from now on.

minkmama · 28/09/2004 12:43

lol at your spot cc, what happened was it an infection? got the bottle back todya, thanks. i like the smell of this one better as well, you're right it really zings you up the nose!

will endeavour to set up a bid for you asap, can't even get on pc these days out of guilt for not spending time with parents....they're off in 3days!!!

OP posts:
Mum2girls · 28/09/2004 21:09

CC - took me about 7 attempts, although tbh, wasn't really serious until about attempt 3 . The crunch came when I just couldn't afford them anymore - I'd bought a flat and if I'm honest, more impotantly met a guy whose Dad had recently died from smoking-related disases (blimey, I'm such a happy soul) and he really put the pressure on me to stop.

Anyway did and we're still together 21 yrs later and he's still a nag, just not about smoking!
