Hello, another morning over, Sam my friend was in this morning and I had that choice, Do I dont I and I managed not to thinking of last week and the start of this week where id had JUST ONE and smoked for the rest of the day...and so that was good to get over.
I really need to get it in my head they DO NOT do anything for me, I still fancy one you know, id like to hate them!
This is THE thread BTW the one we all succeed on ok??????

Jollymum · 23/09/2004 13:31

Keep going everyone! It's one year ago today that I stopped and I am SO proud of myself, as all my family and my dh still smoke and I am being strong. GOOD LUCK!

charliecat · 23/09/2004 16:11

Well Done Jolly mum you must be well chuffed! That is a brilliant achievement!

fionagib · 23/09/2004 16:42

Yeah jollymum I'd love to be able to say similar a year from now!

poor mm - isn't it so frustrating, the constant spillages - could never decide whether to leave the mess and chaos & clear it all up in one massive operation at the end of the day, or tidy tidy tidy as the day went along... mine are not quite so spillage-y now, but v untidy in a blokeish way - the boys & dh at least, but thankfully not dd who's quite neat & pernickety. Hope you're not too peed off about your cleaning efforts!

Yeah it is good to rant about other stuff here sometimes and you're right mm, these incidents are often the trigger that sets us chuffing again...

Well done cc - am assuming your friend smokes so the temptation must've been terrible... and you know they do nothing for you, it's just horrible withdrawal symptoms nagging at you to top up your nicotine levels, and they'll fade away. (but you know all this!)

Am off to whitby tomorrow with friends & kids, can't wait should be fun with loads of long girlie chats into the night. No smokers thank god! So better get on with packing & will catch up with you on tue night or wed, when the kids are back at school up here.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! Will be tuning into the thread with my sixth sense!

Have a good time with your family mm, avert your eyes from any fag packets...
(yes cc have a feeling that this is the thread of success!)

Bye girls xxxxxxxxx

Nimme · 23/09/2004 16:50

Minkmama and all you giver-uppers out there. It can be done.

I have been fag free just over year now and miss it rarely. Occasionally if out boozing - currently pg so living quiet (read boring)life. Only think about it for a moment or so and then it's forgotten. DH has just quit after more than 30 years of smoking. He is surviving on will power and Allan Carr - if he can quit then there's hope for all

Good luck to you all

charliecat · 23/09/2004 17:05

Have a great time FG Thanks Nimme...I have had 3 lozengers today so far, half ones actually, so im doing GREAT. Went to the docs today and read my notes they looked like this on the computer screen:
Stopped smoking

On the cigs. Smoking advice given

Stopped smoking 4 days

Back on cigs. 21 mg Patches given and advice

Off cigs 3.6 weeks 14mg Patches and advice given

Back on Cigs need Chest Xray

bla bla bla....

Sat there feeling slightly smug that the subject wasnt mentioned. Have appointment in Oct for fracture clinic for my foot.

Posey · 23/09/2004 20:44

Just checking in! You guys certainly manage a lot of posts between you!

The other day I said to dh that since I stopped smoking I seem to have more time. Thought it was another psychological thing of quitting. But actually I've got around 1.5 hours more a day. (I smoked 10 ish a day, each one lasting about 10mins. All of them smoked on the balcony while I didn't do anything else). So have decided to use the extra time to do something useful, like eating chocolate

Twink · 23/09/2004 21:44

Well done guys, I can honestly say this is the first night I've checked up on you () without worrying too much about what I might find, the non-smoking ship seems to be in calmer water !

Stick at it, you KNOW it's worth it, ignore all those voices, just 1 will never stay at 1 and you DON'T want to have to start at Day 1 again EVER AGAIN EVER !!!

Sorry, will stop shouting and go and read some more of my book, it's taking forever to get through because I keep stopping off here to see how you all are. xxx

charliecat · 24/09/2004 10:43

Poset think youve got a point there, I have more time, but when your feeling down it feels like a grind rather than a positive thing!
Considering getting my Xstitch back out but havent even found my stuff yet!
Went to the library and got a book about the healing propertys of the mind. I need my mind to work FOR me here, not again me.
Looked in a book and it said something like I have not quit 10000 times and failed, I have found 10000 succesful ways that didnt work for me Thought it could be our Nuggett of the week
Twink, please keep checking up on us and battering us into line if needbe..Fgs off having a whale of a time I bet, lucky here, MM do you think we should back and join her? Where was she off to again???

charliecat · 24/09/2004 10:44

That would be Posey, not Poset of course bet its full of typos..

charliecat · 24/09/2004 13:03

Hey im beggining to think MM has gone off for a girly weekend with FG

charliecat · 24/09/2004 18:06

charliecat · 24/09/2004 20:20

minkmama · 24/09/2004 20:49

Sorry i've not been around, everyone's come to stay and it's busy! went into london today for QT with DH whilst mum & dad can babysit, which was nice but we were battered because we didn't get to bed till 3am! (no naughtiness this time tho )

thanks jollymum, twink and nimme for your kind and encouraging words! and well done nimme, what an achievement!

cc, sorry in advance if i'm not around, but family and everything! mum and dad here for a week before they fly off forever to retire in thailand so need to spend time with them

Will you still visit your parents after they go? That must be a sad time for you I see my mum nearly everyday, I cant imagine living in a different town let alone country...mind you free holiday accomadation I guess!
Was in middle of dishes better goxxx

charliecat · 24/09/2004 21:07

oops heres your ones these are even cheaper!

Posey · 24/09/2004 21:11

Evening all.
Hope all is okay.
I had a terrible night last night (see my thread on constipation and sleep disturbances (Ds's constipaation, all our sleep disturbed)) and would normally take myself off outside at 3am and enjoy the peace and smoke. Can honestly say it never occurred to me.
Mind you still get real association cravings. Like the other day, I spent the day at the zoo with kids and their friends etc. Didn't smoke all daay, was fine with that. The problem was coming in. As normal the kids plonked themselves exhaused in front of the TV. I put the kettle on and would normally have a coffee and fag before getting on with tea. So I had a sherry instead. (Yeah I know its an old ladies drink but I love it now its getting colder!)

charliecat · 24/09/2004 21:15

Thats good the way you thought Oh Fag time and supplimented it with something else Posey well Done! Can relate to the constipation thing. DD2 age 3.9 used to sit on the loo for an hour, often just before we were going to bed and we would have to coax her while she was sitting on the loo in agony. It seems to have stopped now and im afraid I cant offer any advice.
More fluid??

Posey · 24/09/2004 21:52

I'll try giving him more to drink. Good sign though tonight was that he went off to sleep without tons of rolling back and forth.
And I've just had a large sherry while trawling through this lot. Have been finding it quite difficult to keep up with mumsnet just lately. When I first started coming on here over a year ago, I could quite easily add something to every thread that I wanted. Now I struggle just to glance at all of them

charliecat · 24/09/2004 21:59

I dont even try anymore and I read ALL of the threads over a few evenings when I first found MN, now it would take a month or two.
Is your other half/family supportive of your quit?
I am sitting here sucking a nicotine lozenge feeling nice and calm. I have moments of madness here I could just eat a fag..

charliecat · 25/09/2004 08:04

Doing another booty so ill not be around till the afternoon.
I had a dream where I had to choose between my firstest love or paddy, cicumstances were life exactly as it is now, 2 kids etc, and although I hadnt made up my mind, I was going to choose paddy..
That may sound blatantly obvious, but it was a mad dream to have and before I had it Im not sure who I would have had given the chance to have them on a plate...IFKWIM
Sucking, need a dose of Nicotine after that!

Beccarollover · 25/09/2004 08:06

slinking in after my morning fag.............im sorry girls the advice you gave me was all great, why am i resisting so much1?!?!!?

charliecat · 25/09/2004 08:12

Think the easist way to go BRO is a nicotine substitue, or else it feels like your going mad.
Even the nonsmokers here, me included, who were so bloody determined to give up still ended up sitting puffing away for a few days at a time.
I recommend the Allen Carr book, that takes away the illusion of great pleasure and a nicotine replacement something or ohter, that takes away the madness. You could probably get the book from the library.
Good Luck!

charliecat · 25/09/2004 14:47

Woo Hoo, my mums thinking of giving giving up another go! She has brought some Golden Virginia, which she hates and it makes her hiccup and I said id get her some of those lozengers if she wanted me too. She thought it was a breeze last time, cold turkey and maybe her hacking cancerous sounding cough will go away.
I have been fine today. Had 4 lozengers at the booty but I would have had 10 fags if id have been smoking so im not going to beat myself up about it.
Hows everyone else getting on?
