Hi girls,

I know it's a little 'in yer face' but i felt we needed a huge reminder everytime we posted each other!

Fresh start for Monday then!!

charliecat · 22/09/2004 12:21

I lived with my mum for 6 months when we first moved down here to England from Scotland, it was cheaper to pay one lot of months rent in advance than 2 so me, her, DD1 age 9 months AND dp were all in a 2 bed flat!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then my mentally ill brother turned up expecting to move in too, at that point we all moved out!!
My mum was a nightmare, she didnt babysit once in that 6 months, didnt do ANYTHING, whereas if shedd have been a visiting granny she would have mucked in, like she does now, as a visiting granny.
Lozengers are a bit strong, have to keep taking them out, cannot stand the taste of nicotine, says she the 30 a day smoker!
Helping? Must be!

minkmama · 22/09/2004 12:28

do you stick it on the side of you mouth cc? i know it can be a bit peppery...

OP posts:
charliecat · 22/09/2004 12:37

I do yes, i need one now actually, brb!

Beccarollover · 22/09/2004 12:38

I have smoked since I was about 14/15 - Im now nearly 24.

I smoke about 5-10 a day more if Im out.

My reasons for stopping are :

  1. Getting married and think ciggy and a wedding dress would look AWFUL
  2. Sometimes I feel like with each draw Im giving myself cancer right then and there
  3. There is a lad in our office who smokes and he STINKS - I cant BELIEVE I smell like that!
  4. My DD (4) - hates cigarettes - I keep them hidden and never smoke in front of her but the odd ocassion she has seen she will say "MAMMY NO" which is too much to bear

All of that said and done can anyone tell me why I love smoking - I really do love my tabs

charliecat · 22/09/2004 12:41

Dont Know about you BRO but I feel becuase you take 5 mins out of your life to have one it makes it more pleasurable, as a non smoker, you dont stop the dishes half way throught to have a break, if your a smoker you do and say the dishes are soaking! Have you heard of Allen Carr?

minkmama · 22/09/2004 12:44

why do YOU think you do becca? i think i loved my for many years because sometimes it was partially image and i believed it was 'me'. now that i think about it i can't see why i loved them so much! towards the end and during hte blips i had recently, i loved htem for the time out htey gave me from the kids. sad isn't it.

OP posts:
minkmama · 22/09/2004 12:45

Allen is back!!

OP posts:
Beccarollover · 22/09/2004 12:47

Yes have heard of Alan Carr though never read him - frightened it would work and I would lose my tabs forever!!

I have 800 in the house due to people just getting them from holidays over the summer......

I dont know why I love them - I really enjoy being with my smoking friends and having a tab - this sounds soooo sad written down I hope someone relates

charliecat · 22/09/2004 12:53

Totally relate Bro, all my friends smoke and Im the only one wise enough IMO to be trying to give it up. i try not to feel as if im missing out, in fact I KNOW im not but it doesnt help!!!
Its part of the brain washing. If you do manage to give up, every single one of your friends would love to swop places with you and be the non smoker.
Allen Carr is THE man, theres a video, a cd rom, a video and various books.
After you have heard what he has to say you never quite look at fags the same again, and it makes you open your eyes to the fact you CAN stop, and it neednt be the end of the world, in fact it will be the start of a much better part of your life, where YOUR in control with more more, more energy, more confidence...

charliecat · 22/09/2004 12:55

And having those 800 fags in the house has probably made you think OMG am i really going to smoke that many, and the truth is, yes you will and another 8000 after that. Unless you stop that is.

fionagib · 22/09/2004 17:12

Becca-r I thought of cigs as being 'part' of me too - one day years back me and some friends were playing this game where you had to sum each other up in one word - words like fun, and amazing, and sexy were flating aroud, then it came to me and someone said FAGS!

Gutted I was.

I;d like the faggy me to be consigned to the past and for a fresher healthier fg to emerge, and not with a foul face either.

becca-r your reasons are hit home (apart from getting married, did that 7 yrs ago and burnt a hole in my veil with a fag!)

Have also burnt holes in favourite clothes, kitchen worktops etc... at 21 I had a towering ashtray right next to my bed.

Wouldn't it be so much better not to be chained to something, not to worry about running out, finding fag machine, having change for fag machine, having pongy breath in front of your dd, clothes smelling, lungs creaking etc... don't mean to lecture, just wanna ram the benefits into my head as well as yours!

BR I think you'll still be able to have good times with yr friends and a glass of wine, gossip etc, the fags don't add anyhting really.

fionagib · 22/09/2004 18:11

BTW mm and cc thunk you're right about trials of spending too much time with a parent... my mum has been here for 3 days now (the point at which her tolerance re the kids starts to fray) and at tea today she yelled, when sam wouldn;t eat a potato, HOW DARE YOU! IS IS NOT DISGUSTING! THERE ARE PEOPLE IN CHINA WHO GET LESS THAN THAT IN A WEEK!

I had to hide in the loo, hyperventilating, and she followed in and started ranting to me about children being fussy these days, with me there on the pan with my knicks round my shins!

Felt like whacking the shower with a towel mm

Now I remember why I left home at 17!

minkmama · 22/09/2004 18:20

i know, i know!! i swear dh's mum and my mum think ds1 is spoilt rotten and his behaviour is probably due to the fact that they're not raising him you go and smack that towel all you like!!

OP posts:
charliecat · 22/09/2004 18:58

LOl I sound just like your mother FG It was only last night I was having a rant about people chopping off thier left leg to eat what they have wasted.
I read a Bob Geldof book and it has a paragraph about babys shitting out thier insides when they were given some food as they were so ??? Thier little bodys couldnt cope and it killed them....AAHHHHH and seeing my 2 waste food they do and knowing thier are babys dieing as we waste makes me narky sometimes.
Sucking and feeling good

charliecat · 22/09/2004 21:33

Anyone about?

minkmama · 22/09/2004 21:48

CC, i'm knackered today so will probably have to call it a very early night. DH wore me out last night instead of ashton....

hope you guys all had decent days, will see you tomorrow!! xx

OP posts:
charliecat · 22/09/2004 22:00

Night Night MMxx

Twink · 22/09/2004 22:28

Hey CC really glad to see you over here !

Sorry, you've been around for ages (hours !) but I think I'm the only Mner who doesn't have access at work !!

FG just imagine how she'd have been if she was trying to quit too, that's her normal ?!

Don't let your dh drag you down either, sure it will be really easy to smoke at your party, but he'd be able to go 'told you so' and feel well chuffed you'd screwed up and gone back to being like him (SMOKER).

It's a fact of human life, IME, that if people have a weakness/addiction that others with same issue (be it diet/smoking/alcohol/other drugs) are trying to quit then they will do anything to undermine the other persons efforts, to make themselves feel ok & unthreatened when that person 'gives in' and are part of the same world again.

Sorry, that probably comes over in a very confused blur but I hope YSWIM.

charliecat · 22/09/2004 22:43

I know just what you mean Twink and i bet FG does too.
Im fine this evening except for that just one voice...ALREADY...its very faint but id like it to GET TO F*.
I should probably have a lozenge but I dont want to go ott with them.
That voice doesnt matter, providing it doesnt take over all my thinking brain cells, and make my life utterly miserable.
The sad thing about this, is I WANT to be a non smoker, I dont WANT to do this shit anymore.
That bloody nicotine well poisons your mind doesnt it?
BTW Angry vent doesnt mean im pissed off and running after a fag it just means its getting to me and I should go to bed

fionagib · 22/09/2004 23:21

Am going to bed too in a mo, at least bath, can't stand any more as mum followed me to the toilet yet again - I hate being watched as I wipe, do you know what I mean?!

Poor mum - she starts the week being fantastic (and she IS a massive help, does all the school runs, takes boys out to their evening clubs etc, wants to do it all & be helpful, and I do love her dearly!!) then something tips and she starts shouting at them, really losing it. Then they can do nothing right & their faces crumple.

I guess at 69 yrs old two wild 7 yr old boys and a v strong minded five year old girl are a lot to handle. She does masses with them, invents all these games and projects - she's great really. I just need to keep my cool with the kids when she's around, cos if I tell them of in a normalish minor mum-type way, she starts ranting at them, saying, YES! YES! AND YOUR MOTHER SPENT HOURS COOKING THAT! (ie a bit of old fish I slammed in the oven, and served up with a chopped cucumber).

Twink, I do know what you mean about smoking partners wanting a fagging partner - dh will smoke outside now I seem serious about quitting (yet again!) but I feel quite guilty, dictating where he can and can't go - I crumble and smoke, he can smoke in kitchen again, then I quit, he has to go out in the stinky back yard, blah blah ad infinitum. There is not a single well done tho. Not a peep. It goes totally unacknowledged.

BTW sorry to rant about my mum folks! Think I must view this thread as a spilling-out place, and not just about fags. Day three has gone well tho... There's an open packet of 20 silk cut sitting on our kitchen worktop and I looked at it, leered at it, and swivelled my eyes away. Glass of wine feels v nice.

Nice to know you're knackered for a non-kiddie reason mm! Guess you can't be feeling too ill humoured or psychopathic...

BTW woodpops meant to say am in awe of you cold turkeying and seeming so reasonable too!

CC - glad to have you back, secret mistress of Allen Carr - am looking forward to your A.C nuggets already, so get out your highlighter pen.

Night all xxxxx fg - on her way to being a non smoker

fionagib · 22/09/2004 23:26

ps I seem to be writing v long posts, sorry folks, will shut up now

charliecat · 23/09/2004 07:48

FG your long posts are much better than my ones where I end up talking to myself coz noone else is around
You mum sounds nice, I wonder if her mad rants are because she felt unappreciated doing all the running about for her kids and she would like you to be different, she would like your kids to appreciated the things you do for them everyday without a Thanks or a kiss your arse.
I was tossing and turning this morning B4 I woke up knowing I was waking up to a sweet and not a fag!
Hope everuone has a good day xx

fionagib · 23/09/2004 10:05

God, you're totally right cc - mum only flares up at the kids because she's on my side & doesn't like seeing them taking the p*ss out of me.

Families huh! C'mon cc, at least a sweet won't clog up your lungs when you run for that bus!!

Been for a run, ready to work, feeling fine of DAY FOUR!

How's everyone doing? have a good day folks xxx
ps hope your dh hasn't been keeping you up till all hours mm

minkmama · 23/09/2004 12:33

unfortunately no fg, after 10 yrs together these things swiftly work their way away from being a daily or even weekly activity

mum, dad, uncle-in-law and sis are coming today so have furiously been cleaning house only for ds1 to shove a hurdle in front of me on a regular basis. he's been quite naughty of late, not listening to a word i've said. today he decided to climb on a chair and spill coffee all over the carpet and he did this with milk yesterday TWICE and then again today he tried to grab a glass of water and tipped it over the desk. he is now asleep thank god!

fg, i think it's v. imp to rant about things bothering us as these are the things that we use as excuses to smoke. if we let them out, it is far better than letting ourselves out into the garden for a sneaky puff. oh dear. can suddenly feel gums and teeth tingling at the mere mention so have to run and get my lozenge!!!

glad to know everyone's okay tho!!! well done people, another morning/afternoon accomplished!!
