For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Does walking to school & back count as exercise?
Fancy trying this, but not sure I have 10 pieces of f&V in the house!
Don't want to lose weight - do you lose weight on this regime?

FrannyandZooey · 25/06/2007 08:28

Hathor you would probably lose weight if you needed to, and if you only ate your f+v and some wholegrains and protein

but if you add plenty of nuts, olive oil dressings etc, and a good dollop of cakes and biscuits, I reckon you will just about manage to not waste away

Walking to school does kind of count but really, it should be something extra that you are adding, not stuff in your ordinary routine (unless you are regular exerciser already)

Start with what you have in the house and you can stock up later...don't forget dried fruit counts, as do beans, lentils, frozen veg, bananas, juice, etc etc

From the last thread:

TooT the smallest wellies I can find are size 8 but you are welcome to them if you would like them. Otherwise I will keep a look out in charity shops etc for you, I might be lucky and find a pair.

MrsC it came to me about 2 am (apologies for lying awake thinking about your husband at 2 am ). He looks very like one of the personal trainers at my gym. In fact from the wedding photo I would think it was him, absolutely. But you don't live in Essex, do you?

TooT I think you saw about 2 sq foot of my dining room table in that picture. It also has a fruit bowl, a dried flower arrangement, an Ant World and a chocolate fountain on it

Aw Lullaby, that is a real shame. I was thinking yesterday about all the events etc that would be called off because of this weather. I thought you were overseas for some reason, are you in the UK then?

FrannyandZooey · 25/06/2007 09:09

Oh lionheart oh dear Had you bought the tickets or anything?

Oh actually HC went the other day in the pouring rain and she still had a fab time, didn't you HC? And said the food was surprisingly good, as well

i have trouble getting 5 a day so this is going to be tough but i really need to do it. all the BF weight i lost is creeping back on. (must be all the cakes!)

Hathor · 25/06/2007 09:29

OK have walked to school and back. Need to do extra according to Franny. Will go shopping for more veg later for my 10 min exercise .
Have eaten mushy banana and lined up an apple and clementine. Don't like dried fruit - too sweet. Will concoct something for tea with cabbage and have salad for lunch.
This is going to be expensive! Will have to find more greenstuff or rest of family will eat just carbs.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 25/06/2007 09:30

i agree about the expensive bit. is there a way to do this on a budget?

lionheart · 25/06/2007 09:31

Hadn't bought the tickets but children aren't very happy. We are going off to the Bear Factory by way of compensation, instead.
I actually don't mind the rain but it would mean a couple of hours driving in dodgy conditions (sorry, just remembered your car has broken ).

Wow, LLs food sounds amazing.

I've had blueberries, strawberries, grapes and dried apricots so far.
