News of Allen Carr has jolted a few people!! Anyone out there wish to form a "Let smoking Go" club?

rickman, i do know how you feel - when you have to "nip out" for a fag, and you think that non-smokers look at you with a mixture of pity and disapproval and, on top of that, you feel disgusted yourself because WE ALL KNOW HOW STUPID AND DANGEROUS SMOKING IS. It sounds like you have a lot going on in your life atm and smoking might be offering a bit of a "crutch" because things are shit and a fag and glass of wine are such small pleasures.

Do you feel really ready to give up?

Lottelou · 02/08/2006 21:07

Rickman - am up to such motivation now that I can face tomorrow. And that thing about feeling crappy? Don't have it here, but you/we CAN find that space that says 'no thanks' to fags. 'You are just bastards and I don't want or need you'.

B4 Tesco hAS me - stop judging yourself, you are human, which means you are not perfect, but you do have enormous potential.

Ooh im sitting sucking a nicotine lozenge just now on my millionth attempt to quit!
I find them better than patches as your doing something with your mouth in place of the fag and still getting your nicotine

Lottelou · 02/08/2006 21:51

Rickman - sounding overwhelmed. The other things you mention appear long'ish term and possibly depends on other things beyond your immediate control...? This thing sounds as if it is much more in your immediate grasp...and yet WILL make the other things a lot easier to deal with. You may know this already. You can't 'do' them all at the same time...can you give your mind and emotions a bit off a rest?? Fighting on all fronts is exhausting you???

Rickman et al - still on board?? Are you feeling up to breathing easier tomorrow? Feeling desire to check in tomorrow evening reporting first day with no fag, for about 6 years....up to joining me, buddy???

Any other takers??

Hurray!! And yes, fags are beatable. Am sure charliecat is right about using your mind to work with you rather than against you..that good call on Friday is still there to be taken.....

Thanks for the good wishes, sorry didn't reply earlier, was dragged away by RL.

Lottelou, I'm just sick of smoking (although tempted to keep going by all the sanctimonious people who now put it on a par with crimes against humanity, FGS).

Have been smoking for ooh, 18 years? Couple of pathetic attempts to give up but managed it for a year after seeing Allen Carr back in the days when he ran his own workshops. Then got very, very drunk one night and fell off the wagon. That's why I'm going back to see his organisation, think they can help me do it where all else has failed. Fingers crossed...

Lottelou · 02/08/2006 22:36

edam - rickman and I getting it on tomorrow...there to be done and we can do it...keep us posted on prep for workshop?

Lottelou · 02/08/2006 22:38

Yes, people do usually stop doing things when they are just fed up with doing it - have some contacts with heroin users - the vast majority just stop when it becomes too shitty, not by therapy or prescriptions, just saying "oh f*ck this", and stop.

Nomatter WHAT happens tommorow dont have a fag. Even if your dog gets ran over it IS NOT an excuse to smoke.
Your brain will tell you that X Y Z and G are bloody good reasons why you DESERVE a cigarette.
Those fucking fags are your deadliest enemy.
Dont think of them as a treat or something to enhance your day. They are a killer.
And stopping smoking them is the best thing you could possibly do for yourself.
You stop smoking everytime you put one out...you just need to keep it going.
NO matter WHAT happens DO NOT smoke tommorow.
And when youve got through the hell of day 1 ask yourself WHY you would want to go through that utter hell again.
I will be thinking of you.

No problem, been there done it 100 millions times....finally nailed it
Rickman, It made me feel utterly crap and useless, I remember sitting on the loo wanting to kill myself (not the suicidal type) because I was so so so fecked off wirth thinking about fags. All I wanted to do was stop.
You can do it.

edam · 02/08/2006 22:53

Interesting point about heroin addicts. Will check back in when I've done the workshop. Good luck for tomorrow!

Lottelou · 02/08/2006 23:04

just checked the whyquit website - just the homepage content scared the cr*p out of me! Will look at it when feeling braver, may be tomorrow, now just nicely simmering, can't boil over and panic.....

How you doing? Not this has got to be a turning point for you, you have got this far and you dont want to be repeating this again do you?
I remember sweating more, eating more, grinding my teeth, having a slight manicness about me...

Lottelou · 03/08/2006 18:20

C.C!! Actually feel strangely calm...didn't gnaw the laptop as 1. it wasn't mine and 2. didn't feel like it!! still VERY dried mouthed and was uncharacteristically nouty with other raod users on way home - did a bit of swearing, but am conscious as to why - ate 2 choc bars today and friend bought me a Thornton's choc ice cream.......feeling very optimistic! don't wish t ojump up and down yet - it isn't 24 hrs yet, but IS feeling very fine - bit concerned about evening - some things to do but - does anyone object if I ramble on a bit? - my buddy and I are in a similar boat and have agreed to avoid each other....
