All of that is so bad. Difficult to read, never mind admit to. But you did ask....gulp.

Rickman! Hurrah!! and well done you!! Know what you mean about the relaxing bit and the temptations...and I don't think we ever 'crack it'...it appears to me as something we learn to control through experience...
And as Pinocchio proudly announces "I'm a real boy!"
I actually registered here seeking other wisdom about how to improve my relationship with dd - it is great, but there is always room for improvement, and it isn't a quest to share wit hher mummy - it is mine to take responsibility for - then I saw the 'dependents' thread on alcohol and realised it was fairly endemic, and then Mr Carr's condition was announced and it all seemed t ocome together...am saying and doing things this week I never thought I would be doing and saying, but it is all really brilliant, and getting all of this stuff out and hearing and sharing other's journeys has been a bit of a revalation - details of people I have never met, and I STILL haven't chatted about dd as yet but that will come v. soon....I am ok in my maleness and I hope it is fine with all others...

Good for him!!!

Name? Based in my dds name...after all it is she as to why I registered. I have been assuming other MNers are female, except in the Men's Room, but as you say it really doesn't matter..and I have learned that THE most important rel.I will ever have is with dd now, so it was worth registering.

But don't give in! You must know that what you are doing IS the most important thing you can be doing!! Yes it is great to be out with intrigue and pleasure and chatting and being stimulated - I am the same - but soon you can do all of that without shoving deadly chemicals in your body, and love doing the things you do so much more???

Cooking and typing - hence delay - horrible to be bored, but for me the past 3 days has been about distractions away from fagging it - it can't be replaced, and it shouldn't - it is so specific - but I think I need to do what was advised a couple of days ago and think of me asa non-smoker - it isn't what you do, so much as your state of mind , which you CAN control in this world, unlike alot of other things??

imaginaryfriend · 05/08/2006 22:21

Ll, have to admit I thought you were a female too and then when I read your post about your ex-p I thought you were a gay woman! No probs about you being a male btw. What do you do as a job btw? Just to complete nosiness .

I've had such a hideous cracking headache today. Can't seem to shift the blighter.

Lottelou · 05/08/2006 22:40

Is this headache thing worth getting check out? Or do you just get on with it???

Yes, I sometimes think I am just a lesbian stuck in a man's body!! ....

Jobs - well I have a couple..one as a manager (hence the delegating thing, to my shame) and the other can be a bit controversial - my real passion is working with men, and sometimes women, who have sexually abused children or adult women. I have been involved in this for many years, happily, so I don't ascribe it to my recent horribleness with fags and alcohol...which btw is weird right now..I have never been this 'clean' in my adult life, and Iam not sure what to make of it!!

Don't wish to be any more specific here..and am tempted to know more about everyone else...but I know about boundaries, and do not wish to cross anyone's. But please do say anything in return, esp. about fag and alcohol things..?

Life in the fast lane!!!! Hold onto your hats!

Hi all. Mums!! You may be right, rickman, but is she so undermining in everything else you do? If the answer is, 'yes', give her a slap from me as well! .

Had good time at sis's and the kids played properly, and Ibrought a bottle of Pinot Grigio which was handed back to me as we left as no-one opened it, so...there is a bottle of wine, chilling in my fridge...and I couldn't give a stuff!!!

You are amazing LL. What exactly brought about this drastic change? BTW you didn't say just how much in terms of fag and booze you were on at the point of quitting? And for how long at that level?

As for me, well, I started smoking quite late in life - about 23, and smoked 10-20 a day until I was 30 then quit for 3 years. Then I smoked until 37 when I got pregnant, I smoked at least 20-a-day for most of that time, then quit when pregnant and started again when dd was 6 months old. I've never smoked as heavily as I used to, absolute max would be 10-a-day but for the last year it's been less than 5-a-day. Booze has been up and down. I was never a drinker until the last year of writing my PhD when I drank ridiculously heavily - my worst could be a bottle of spirits a day. . It was a really hard time as I was also working through lots of extremely traumatic childhood things I had avoided thinking about. I more or less had a drastic breakdown. Again I quit as soon as I knew I was pregnant and like smoking have never gone over the top since but I do drink every day. Never spirits or even wine, just beer these days. I've lately cut down to one can of 4% lager a day which keeps me within the acceptable limits for females.

Enough info?

Anybody else want to fill in their consumption details?

peanutbutter · 06/08/2006 18:14

just want to say Well Done to Rickman, Lottelou, imaginaryfriend and any lurkers who are also fag-free at the moment. You're all doing brilliantly.

IMHO it helps to just say "today i won't smoke" rather than "i'm never smoking another cigarette again".

Anyhoo, will keep dropping by - just wanted to send you my very best wishes.

Pandorasjarboy · 06/08/2006 18:26

Please unslap her for me then?...

(yes, formerly Lottelou, less ambiguous)...

new g/friend could have been a little more respectful..staying quiet for a phone call....and that is HER problem., don't let it become yours......niggly, yes, but rise above it?.....

but competitive mothers are the worst!!..sort out the printer ink??
