Would love to but can't afford gym atm - would be interested to know which ones have a creche though.

NomDePlume · 12/09/2005 12:51

I joined a gym recently and have so far managed to go 3 times.... I could do with going 3 times a week too, how realistic that figure is though is another story.

puff · 12/09/2005 12:56

Ooh, yes please! Just joined a health club. Had my gym assessment last week. Aiming to use the gym 3 times a week, plus a class each week and some swimming with the children in between. Really want to shift the last of my weight (lost 6 stone so far)plus tone up the flab.

mancmum · 12/09/2005 12:59

i will! Just joined a gym and need to go 3 times a week to make it worth while.... went on Friday and am off tonght... weight training session...

Cam · 12/09/2005 13:05

I find classes get me fitter far more quickly than using the gym, its the self-motivation factor I think!

I like to do a mixture of cardio ones with Pilates thrown in for flexibility.

Oh... count me in... I am embarrassingly a member of TWO gyms (one at work, one near home), and never go to either!!

Twiglett · 12/09/2005 18:29

me

had my induction today

I'm going for first workout tomorrow, unless I can find a suitable excuse between now and then

PS I am very very good at excuses

mrspink27 · 12/09/2005 18:41

count me in to, joined a health club attached to dh's golf club, went loads to start with, have loads of weight to lose! but over did it and stirred up a knee injury.
then had summer holidays which put pay to regular visits. dd went back to school this morning and so must get back into routine....

jac34 · 12/09/2005 18:49

I've been a member of a gym for just over a year.During the year I managed to loose 21/2 stone, I normally go twice a week and have been very good at keeping it up,but I go on my days off, so of course couldn't go while the boys were off school as I had them on my days off!!
I started back last week, have been 4 times now but I'm really suffering after 6 weeks off and eating too much on holidays.
I have gained half a stone, so really need to motivate myself, as I've at least another 2 stone to loose!!

puffywuffybum · 13/09/2005 11:17

Been twice this week so far. Finding the cross trainer very hard work (just about coping with 5 mins on it ), plus I am a wimp on the weight training equipment. Hey ho, onwards and upwards! Can't consider an aerobic type class for a few weeks - I think I'd keel over - at least in the gym I can pace myself!

Who went to the gym today? I did LBT (wish it was BLT) which was not easy as my thighs were still aching from yesterday. Kama do you run on your treadmill or power walk (I nearly broke into a run on a treadmill once but managed to stop myself!) I instinctively feel that running would be a very good way to lose weight and tone up fast but as I get older I want to protect my joints - particularly knees.
puffywuffybum what level do you have the cross-trainer on, if its on low people can usually go for 20 mins or so but I always think its better to do less reps at a higher level (and is less time-consuming)

Twiglett · 13/09/2005 15:56

I didn't go

I had it all arranged but had an asthma attack last night and was up for 3 hours and have been feeling off all day .. I was totally knacked so when DD went to sleep I did too

I am the queen of paltry excuses

am supposed to be going tomorrow

Cam · 13/09/2005 16:02

Sorry to hear that you get asthma Twig, does your health club have a swimming pool and/or steam room?

OP posts:
QueenEagle · 13/09/2005 16:03

count me in!

I have managed to persuade my GP to sign me onto the GP referral scheme for my local gym for a 10 week rehab stint on my injured knee to tie in with physio. I went on the treadmill last week and managed 30 seconds jogging before my knee couldn't take any more so it's going to be a long hard slog getting it fit again!

Twiglett · 13/09/2005 16:05

Cam its the local leisure centre .. yes it has a swimming pool

I haven't had asthma for almost a year .. just have a little cold that has gone straight to my chest .. its nothing much but thanks for sympathy anyway

Hazellnut · 13/09/2005 19:04

ooh can I join in too ?! I joined a gym about 3 weeks ago. The creche was shut for the first two weeks though !! Although they do a postnatal class twice a week which you can take babies to but not sure how long I will get away with that one given dd is almost 8 months old !! Been to the gym once this week, was due to go today but have sore throat (excuses excuses)... Aiming for 3 or 4 times a week (inc. classes)....

Cam · 13/09/2005 19:05

Looks like you'll have to stick to the power walking for a while QE

Twiglett it's just I've heard that swimming is good for asthma - opens up the chest I believe - but if you've got a cold then its not good to exercise. Bad luck to get a cold so early in the season - I usually get one the minute the weather gets properly cold.

puffywuffybum · 13/09/2005 22:10

Cam, I'm not sure what level the cross trainer is on - still working it out, I don't like it much tbh - it's the one thing where I hurt all over v fast - I think I'll speak to one of the gym staff about it.

Hope your chest gets better soon Twiglett .

Passionflower · 13/09/2005 23:04

Ooooh yes please, have a gym induction tomorrow!

Passionflower · 14/09/2005 13:38

Feeling v. pleased with myself, survived the GYM induction

I'll never remember how all the equipments works though. Shall probably spend the whole time messing with things and looking lost when I go on Friday.

Cam · 14/09/2005 16:30

Well done Passionflower, you'll probably find you only go on a couple of machines regularly anyway

After 2 days of "going for it" I'm nursing my sore thigh muscles today and have only been for a little walk to the dentist

But I'm back there tomorrow!

puff · 14/09/2005 19:40

Went to gym again, did all cardiovascular stuff - treadmill, crosstrainer and bike.

That's my 3 sessions for this week.

Am going to try a class - someone has recommended boxercise, but I'm not convinced!

Passionflower · 14/09/2005 19:49

Hey Boxercise is supposed to be wicked! They just started at my gym and there's a waiting list already. If you have the chance go for it.

Cam · 14/09/2005 20:00

I've always thought of boxercise as being for people who are already fit (which is why I haven't tried it!)
