just ate MASSIVE slice of choc cheesecake, I blame my cycle coz am due on! will have to do penance in the gym tomorrow. Did step and pump this am - now i hurt....again

Cam · 25/09/2005 14:41

Screwball, no not dishy in the slightest but very humorous and makes the class fun

Good on you puff, when are you going to try some classes?

Chocolate, Mabs, its the one thing I've been avoiding because I can't just eat a little bit.

This w/e I went to London yesterday and walked a lot, today I walked along the seafront but back to the serious stuff tomorrow morning. I find I have to go on Mondays or I start skiving.

Think I'll try a class or two this week - I'm managing 40 mins sustained cardiovascular work in the gym, with weights in between. When I started, 10 or 15 mins was horrendous , so I've definitely improved. I just don't know what to try first - if I do something OTT it will put me off.

Cam · 26/09/2005 14:51

puff, try something which says its for beginners and tell the teacher when you get in there that you haven't done it before. Plus you can go at your own pace (high or low) and stop for a rest any time you feel like it. Remember to take in water with you.

I warmed up for 10 mins on the treadmill this morning, then went to a step class and then did 10 lengths in the pool. I'm finding it easier this week as my fitness levels have increased. However Mabs mentioning chocolate yesterday meant I had to finally give in to my craving.

OP posts:
puff · 26/09/2005 22:37

thanks Cam - will do.

You did well today .

I did a session in the gym this morning and went for a swim this evening - did about 30 lengths, which I'm chuffed about, as 5 was a struggle at first. I'm amazed at how quickly my fitness is improving tbh, I thought it would take months.

MABS · 27/09/2005 08:07

you can blame me for the chocolate lapse Cam, oh well maybe you can! lbt and step yesterday but have hurt my shoulder - dammit. So rewarded myself with a full body massage.

Tel you wot, there's one cure for snacking in the kitchen, have a new one fitted! My house is like a building site at the mo so getting in kitchen to snack is impossible and also, can't bear being home so go to the gym all the time!

purpleturtle · 27/09/2005 08:19

I joined a gym last week and have been given a weights schedule by a trainer. So far, so good. I go in, do the prescribed number of reps (at the lightest weight possible!), and then move on to the cardio.

The trainer showed me the cross-trainer thingy, but it nearly killed me, so I'm sticking to the treadmill for now. What I'm not sure of is how much running I should be doing. The first time I lasted 10 minutes , and the second time I did 15 minutes at a slightly higher speed.

In part, I don't do longer because it becomes so time consuming by the time I've done the weights as well.

Suggestions?

puff · 27/09/2005 09:54

Agree about the cross trainer purpleturtle - it's a killer! I've managed to get up to 12 mins on one - always do it first after my warm up, so I get it out the way because it's the one thing I hate!

I know what you mean about the schedule taking a long time. What is the plan you've been given and how long is it taking you at the mo?

Cam · 27/09/2005 10:45

Running for 10 mins is a long time purpleturtle, don't be ashamed of that!

This morning I did 25 mins cardio in the gym (treadmill and crosstrainer) and lots of stretching then a few but fast lengths in the pool.

Not a huge amount but "every little helps!!"

Hope you're all well

Well, I am working on the basis that a 10 minute run is a lot better than a no minute run!

I'm doing 3 sets of 8-12 reps on half a dozen fearful machines (3 arms, 3 legs), then 2 sets of stomach crunches - or an approximation at least. I guess it's taking me a bit over half an hour. I've only done it twice, and both times I've forgotten to check the time i started. Doh.

Cam · 27/09/2005 11:07

Twiglett are you better yet?

Starshaker how did the induction go?

mrspink27 · 27/09/2005 11:51

I went last night and ran for 25 mins, did 4 weights machines and a bit on the swiss ball, couldnt undo the arm bike to change the length so gave that a miss!
need to book another session with the gym people to review my program, am aiming for 3 - 4 times a week, but have a knee problem that is starting to flare up a bit.... so frustrating!

Cam · 27/09/2005 11:52

Yo mrspink! Sorry to hear about your knee - do your gym bods know any knee strengthening exercises you can do?

OP posts:
puff · 29/09/2005 21:34

Passionflower · 29/09/2005 22:59

ScrewballM have been going 3 time a week since 14th now, I reckon I must be fitter than I thought because of chasing round after 3 littles!

I lurrrrve the x-trainer, much better than the treadmill which always gives me a stitch.

I have to fit my workout into an hour or I have to start paying for the creche, my workout is..

10mins rowing to warm up
10mins on the bike
10mins on the x-trainer
6 sets of 15 ab crunches
2 sets of 15 weights on five machines, 3 legs and 2 upper body.

That lot is supposed to improve fitness, burn fat and tone up. As I can't extend time am just increasing resistence/weight as it gets easier.

Anyway it seems to be working, I am finally and for the first time ever a size 10! celebrated by buying a new pair of glitzy jeans and a dress. Am out for dinner tomorrow tho and on sat so will probably be a 12 again by monday

How's everyone else doing, are you starting to see some results for all your hard work? Hope so.

puff · 29/09/2005 23:11

my trousers are baggier round the bum - definitely.

Passionflower · 30/09/2005 13:34

Well done Puff!

I think the thing is that I have finally accepted that I'm not gonner just wake up one day with Uma Thurmans body so I'm going to have to put in some blood sweat and tears to get it!

It's highly possible that I'm having a bit of an early mid-life crisis. I just know that if I've still got this body on my 40th b'day I'm going to be really depressed (am 31 btw) because I'll feel that I've let life pass my by IYKWIM.

Anyway good vibes to everyone.

Cam · 30/09/2005 14:42

I didn't go to the gym as planned this am (and was even meeting an exercise buddy) cos I was too tired after going out with Dannie last night for a meal. Nothing to do with the large amount of wine I drank

Luckily dh drove dd to school

However I will be able go tomorrow as dd has school tomorrow am and I will have no excuses.

Well done to Puff and Passionflower - its going regularly that's the thing isn't it?

Oh yeah! coruses Pf after a rowdy night out with girlfriend.

No really I think 3 times a week is the min needed to see an immediate improvement, and if I don't see an immediate improvement I just won't happen. v. drunkenly

ScrewballMuppet · 01/10/2005 08:30

You lot have been busy....I haven't managed to go much this week as have started a course adn my mind has been blown by all the info.
I have joined the gym on campus and have a couple of study periods for reading so will use the gym during them and see if I can get some reading done whilst on the stepper or something.
I've noticed that my apetite is changing...I actually put down a choc bar after a couple of bite as I only fancied a little bit I just don't seem to fancy lots of junk like normal although that may change with my cycle as I crave junk then.

Cam · 01/10/2005 13:05

Oh no, I didn't go this morning - just felt too lazy - but am doing a sponsored walk with dd's school tomorrow

puff · 02/10/2005 14:29

Went to the gym this morning, first trip since Weds as I haven't felt too well the last couple of days (dodgy tum). I am noticing that at last, the weights part of the workout is getting easier - hurrah!
