I dropped out of the sponsored walk because I stubbed my big toe yesterday and its still sore and I didn't fancy walking 13 miles on it. Dh and dd are still out there hard at it

Will check back in when I can report a time when I have done some exercise

Did 45 mins on bike and crosstrainer today, plus weights. Gosh, I think I might be getting fit again!

LadyGuinevereofCAMelot · 04/10/2005 14:41

Well done LadyP, you're showing up the rest of us now

I am going back soon, I am

ScrewballMuppet · 05/10/2005 19:26

Went swimming mon did 50 lengths and then today did 30 odd...lost count. I'm even attempting the over arm stroke, although I end up drinking loads of water through my nose have yet to figure that one out but I'm getting there.

I have my gym induction mon coming and I'm going to a martial arts thing tomorrow night just to watch but may join in if it looks okay...nothing to heavy....definately want to learn self defence

ScrewballMuppet · 05/10/2005 19:27

MABS where do you find the energy/motivation and can I borrow some??LOL

ScreamEagle · 05/10/2005 19:45

I started back at the gym for the first time last week since injuring my knee.

Felt fine during and had a personal trainer for the whole session which was brill - trouble is it's made my knee flare up badly so i am giving it a miss this week and waiting for my physio appt next week before going again.

I am so envious of you lot swimming and gym-ing - I really want to get back into the routine of that again but it;s proving more difficult than I anticipated.

MABS · 06/10/2005 08:07

Screwball - funnily enough (weird i know) but i find it gives me more energy in the long run. And even better, it totally takes the edge off my appetite. Also, both kids are now at school and I only work 12 hours a week so I have quite a bit of spare time! Also dd plays lots of tennis at the club we belong to so its easier to do something whilst she plays, otherwise i just sit a chat eating donuts! Got squash lesson today, but bats aren't my thing at all!! Heh Ho

KingPuff · 06/10/2005 08:56

Wow MABS! That's impressive!

I did another gym session last night - 45 mins cardio, plus weights. Am gradually increasing my time on the crosstrainer which is good.

FauxVampire · 06/10/2005 09:28

I think I'll just sit here and read this very long thread rather than go to the gym... Seriously, I've just spent 5 days not going to the gym because of having a cold - do you all take time out for that? My gym's trainers all take the view that you shouldn't exercise if you've got a cold, but I wonder if I could've gone back to it a bit sooner? I realise obviously it depends on how you feel, but I might have felt better myself if I'd exercised yesterday for example.

LadyGuinevereofCAMelot · 06/10/2005 09:38

Your gym trainers are right, Faux, you're not supposed to exrcise with any virus including the common cold - it makes it far worse apparently. The main cure for cold and flu viruses is rest.

I'm finally going back today but only for a swim.
I've been suffering from what they used to call "women's troubles" ie heavy, heavy period. Felt quite faint with it - I know its my age.

FauxVampire · 06/10/2005 09:58

Thanks - it's a bit of a bummer, though, isn't it? Takes chunks out of the winter.

Am nearly on my way to the gym, now. Am about to try a yoga class. I usually have trouble either with boredom in yoga or finding I can't do it and feeling enraged (not v. yogaish), but hopefully this class will entertain me.

LadyGuinevereofCAMelot · 06/10/2005 15:59

Apparently the virus thing is because you can force it into your heart muscle if you do strenuous exercise

Know what you mean about yoga, I rarely do it - usually something called fitness yoga is marginally better

Anyway I went for my gentle swim this morning and feel better for it

FauxVampire · 06/10/2005 16:03

Oh gawd, better not disobey then. I went and did my yoga class and was bored, then enraged, so no change there. I know what you mean about fitness yoga, I think it's faster, so less tedious. I love aqua classes, so I think I might as well stick to them. Glad to hear you had your swim

KingPuff · 07/10/2005 08:59

Gosh, I didn't know that about viruses CAM .

LadyGuinevereofCAMelot · 07/10/2005 20:22

Did 25 mins cardio in gym and a small swim this morning. Have been sneezing for the rest of the day so may have a cold coming which means I'll have to take my own advice

Another reason to stay away with coughs and colds etc is that they spread like wildfire in gym conditions

MABS · 07/10/2005 20:31

Gym and pump today. Tomorrow is pump and combat - am getting really sad aren't I !?

LadyGuinevereofCAMelot · 07/10/2005 20:45

You're getting a fab figure Mabs, but watch out for those lycra leggings getting too baggy

MABS · 07/10/2005 21:49

I'm more worried about the boobs shrinkin' and not being able to keep my boob tube up!!

ScrewballMuppet · 08/10/2005 16:48

LOL
Went to a Jeet kune do class on thurs night, which scared me witless; the guy is a bit of a serious nut demanding that we will all fight and knocking chunks out of a wall. Will stay well away from!!!!! Fri night I tried Hapkido which was self defence aimed again but friendlier...at least they want to get to know you before suggesting you knock chunks out of each other.
Going again sun night

puff · 08/10/2005 21:59

gym again today

Passionflower · 11/10/2005 12:39

Hi all,

Just signing in to let you know that I haven't been shirking...(my laptop was kidnapped and taken on a business trip) have been in the gym doing my routine three times a week and have gone up 2 levels on the X-trainer.

It's no joke about the boobs though, my puny little A cups have gone AA . Will definitely have to buy some bigger ones when I've got the rest of my bod into shape!

Hazellnut · 11/10/2005 18:09

Ok I shirked a bit and then went on holiday so have even more reason to get back to it. Am going to start this week with two postnatal classes on thurs and fri and then back with a vengence next week...... I REALLY need to do this !! Am thinking of a personal trainer to help motivation - does anyone else use one and how often ??

puff · 11/10/2005 23:49

Some serious exercise going on here! Well done all!

I've got up to 20 mins on the crosstrainer now -woohoo !

ScrewballMuppet · 12/10/2005 10:39

Have never used a personal trainer but certainly would if had the opportunity.

Puff Well done!..20 mins on the cross trainer!! that machine kills me. Have finally done the gym induction so have no excuse to go to the gym. The cardio machines even have little ledges on so I could do some of the reading I'm suppose to be doing before class.

Did Hapkido sun night and going tonight....my legs lack coordination for the kicks am going to go two or three nights a week so hopefully will improve quickly.
Went swimming yesterday did 50 there abouts lengths again (keep loosing count). I found it a struggle this time so going to go again tomorrow if possible.
I'm hoping my body is going to be shaping up soon to any degree...not noticing any difference as yet.
Is anybody else beginning to see the benefits of all their exersising yet??
