I enjoyed the last Gousto thread but it seems to have disappeared so thought I would start a new one.
Anyone had a box this week?
I have had the Goan style basa and spinach curry which was really good. Also had the pork with bubble and squeak mash and the sesame hoisin chicken. All have been lovely so far. Smile Just the Thai red curry to go now which I am looking forward to.

We're ordering mostly veggie stuff, around the 5-600 calories level, and there's usually a good amount of choice. Even after you take out tofu (which I hate) and pak choi (which we both hate) !

We do have fishy ones sometimes, but rarely meat. The Haddock in creamy chilli sauce with pasta was yummy (although it was cod - they seem to be having problems with haddock - last week's haddock was just missing, so cod is an improvement!).

We had a cauliflower curry thing last night which was really tasty, and we've got skewers tonight - might be chicken which is very rare for us.

If we see the Lebanese crispy rice thing on the menu we go for that every time, it's great.

I have started just keeping the cards and putting the ingredients on the shopping list - I wish Gousto or others did a service where you could pay for their recipes with an associated shopping list. I'm happy to procure the ingredients myself, which would usually be better quality and far less plastic (bulk buying of spices etc.), but there's no option for that.

@LemonViolet, I was sent cod instead of haddock too. I contacted them and they sent me a £5 credit. It was dh that cooked the fish cakes last night, I did warn him they may fall apart after reading your post yesterday. I think he greased the parchment paper well and didn't turn them halfway during cooking. They turned out really well.

We had sticky hoisin tofu burgers last night which were incredibly good! Would recommend.

I don’t find it that expensive as it saves me so much money with my food shopping when we have a box delivered.
We have a box coming tomorrow. I have gone for the Thai king prawn yellow curry, the sweet chilli chicken & sesame udon, the BBQ chicken loaded cheesy fries (had them before and loved them!) and Turkish style lamb stew with aubergine yogurt. Really looking forward to all of these meals. Smile

This coming week’s orders is: Fruity Moroccan chicken stew and couscous, Garlic king prawn with linguine, Indian spiced chicken tray bake and Sweet potato and Greek cheese taquitos. It seems quite varied as some weeks I accidentally order recipes that are too similar.

Lentil enchiladas with roasted pepper crema (vegan)

Roasted squash laksa with spicy coconut sambal (vegan)

Honey baked Greek cheese with crispy gnocchi (veggie)

Smoky chorizo cod with crispy potatoes and aioli

We had the chorizo cod before and it was very yummy.

Also having the last meal from this weeks box tonight, Turkish-style lamb stew with aubergine yoghurt.

Spanish pork belly and chickpea stew
Nacho cheeseburgers
Halloumi with muhammara and bulgar

Only gone for three this week, I had the nduja breakfast eggs or whatever they were called, on order but cancelled it as I didn’t fancy it. I’ve realised that I quite often order the ‘lentil dahl with some sort of vegetable side’ recipe, but never end up making it. They do a few spins on it and for some reason it’s just never what I want to eat, even though I like all the ingredients!

I’ve started supplementing gousto boxes with simplycook as well, to try to clear some of the stuff in my freezer and cupboards!

Oh some tasty sounding recipes! Smile
I have had the Moroccan chicken stew recently and loved it - it was so full of flavour. We have also had the chicken traybake (also very nice) and I think we have tried the nacho cheeseburgers but it was a while ago.
We still have some recipes left over from last week as my husband wasn’t well at the end of the week so I didn’t make any Gousto meals. Today we are having the Thai prawn curry.

Getting my box tomorrow, first for a while.

Pork and chickpeas, salmon spinach and pasta, nacho cheeseburger and the chicken madras.

I enjoyed the nacho cheeseburger, only used half the chilli and could have taken a bit more! Would never have thought of pico de gallo in a burger but I thought it was lovely

I really enjoyed the Turkish lamb tonight. Only used half the chilli and DP still complained it was too spicy, wuss, I’d have used it all.

We recently had oven baked Chinese style pork belly- not very impressed. It was ok but no more than that.

The Chinese chicken with cashew nuts on the other hand was absolutely delicious and I will most definitely make again.

Chicken with crispy cheese crust and Mediterranean veg was also nice.

Next up will be kahari style chicken with peshwari rice.

Oh I nearly went for the crispy cheesy chicken with Mediterranean vegetables but changed last minute for the udon chicken. Was it really nice? I might have to have it next time it’s available.

We are having the Turkish lamb dish tonight. Looking forward to trying it.

Just unpacked my order. Makes me feel very organised. I check each thing off on the recipe cards as I unpack and put all the ingredients for each recipe in a fridge organiser box, so there are 4 boxes in the fridge, recipe card and all. Then when it’s time to cook I just get the box out and everything is ready to go.

I've been getting the boxes fortnightly for a few months and I love them. I enjoy cooking, but am someone who needs a bit of inspiration. I'm definitely eating more veg and a greater variety of dishes overall, which is what I was looking for. I find I don't need to do as much top-up shopping, which goes some way to justifying the cost of them.

Just found this thread. Been doing Gousto for about 15 months now. Love it.
Bit concerned - I have the Oven-baked Spanish style Pork Belly and Chick Peas this week. When I ordered there were no ratings and now it shows at a 2.9 rating from 117 ratings! Anyone had this? Why such a poor rating?

Report
AthenaWhite · 23/02/2022 18:24

I have the pork and bean one tomorrow, yikes!!!!
You don't get to see why it was rated down though which is annoying.

Report
TooMuchToblerone · 23/02/2022 18:59

Me too! Planning to cook it tomorrow Confused
It's dragged itself up to a rating of 3 now..... Hopefully not as bad as the rating implies!
