New thread for sharing Gousto recipes

I enjoyed the last Gousto thread but it seems to have disappeared so thought I would start a new one.
Anyone had a box this week?
I have had the Goan style basa and spinach curry which was really good. Also had the pork with bubble and squeak mash and the sesame hoisin chicken. All have been lovely so far. Smile Just the Thai red curry to go now which I am looking forward to.

We are still enjoying our Gousto meals. I have a box arriving tomorrow.

I agree. I buy chicken stock to recreate the recipes but it is never quite as good

Same with their chicken stock mix!

I’m not sure. It’s a shame you can’t buy it as an extra

Does anybody know where they source their curry powder from? I'm obsessed.

We’re having the katsu chicken tonight

Does no one care that the chicken is battery farmed?

Thanks I think I will avoid chicken from there now. I do leave it to air and its not just a bit whiffy, the smell makes me gag.

I made the Sri-Lankan style pork pittas with sambal and raita, they were OK but we were hungry again quickly 😂. The sambal was vile though. Does anyone else have a problem with the quality of chicken? Mine always stinks and ends up in the bin. They always refund me so I can go buy some, but it's not really the point as I tried Gousto to stop visiting the supermarket so often 😂.

I refuse to eat their chicken now. It’s slimy and smells weird. It doesn’t taste so bad on the day you cook it, but if you reheat any left overs it tastes horrible. Makes me feel I’ll thinking about it 😩

Bit of a mess on todays order!
Had an email they couldn’t send a courgette so would send two tomatoes instead. They’ve sent one.
I’ve got three dented tins, I’ve got a tin of sweetcorn instead of tinned tomatoes, baby leaf salad instead of spinach, and a missing recipe card!

Chicken from anywhere always smells when you first open it, doesn't it?

Report
dizzyupthegirl86 · 11/09/2022 19:23

Does the smell remain after a few minutes? Mine never does. I often buy chicken vacuum packed like that ( in bulk from muscle foods) and it smells like that when you initially open it.

I have a box coming tomorrow, spiced lentil stew, chorizo and lentil salad, chorizo minestrone and Korean corn with gochujang potatoes. Intentionally chose three 10 minute recipes!

I am getting fed up with the substitution ingredients nearly every time though. I have a chicken cashew nut curry coming and the cashew nuts have been substituted with creamed coconut!! 🤔

🫣 how is that even a substitute

I much prefer it to HF as well, the quality is much better and they cater more for special diets.

I agree that it’s much better than Hello Fresh - so much more choice, more exciting meal choices, less repetitive and I like that you can pause Gousto so you don’t have to be tied to a subscription.

We had the chicken curry filled sweet baked potatoes last night which were easy to make & tasty

I would 100% recommend gusto for anyone who's thinking of trying it, its so easy and the meals are so so nice! 11/10, it's also better than hello fresh in my opinion

The duck burger was ok, it’s a bit of a weird combo that I’d never have thought of on my own, but it wasn’t that bad to cook. Think the standout for me was the lamb meatloaf, I really liked that.

I just rubbed them in a drizzle of oil and put them straight in the air fryer. I didn’t steam them first. They came out lovely, as did my potatoes for tonight’s meal.

We have just had the Japanese prawn dish that I was worried about and we both really enjoyed it.

The peri peri chicken was lovely. We did the chips in our new air fryer and they came out much better than normal

I’m doing the duck burger tonight. Can I ask how you did the chips in the air fryer? I’m gonna give it a go. Someone on this thread mentioned steaming them first I think

Have just had a box delivered. Had ordered the Japanese style prawn patatas bravas but am a bit worried that it’s going to be disappointing as it only gets 3.6 stars. That’s the risk you take ordering new recipes I guess!

I didn’t feel hungry after but I had eaten some toast late afternoon which may have helped.
I did wonder if it would be enough to fill my DH, especially after seeing how low in calories it was. Probably better for a lunch than dinner. I have made him a cheese and pickle sandwich to take to work tonight!

Peri peri chicken and chips tomorrow. I have higher expectations for that!
