I enjoyed the last Gousto thread but it seems to have disappeared so thought I would start a new one.
Anyone had a box this week?
I have had the Goan style basa and spinach curry which was really good. Also had the pork with bubble and squeak mash and the sesame hoisin chicken. All have been lovely so far. Smile Just the Thai red curry to go now which I am looking forward to.

We only discovered basa since we started having Gousto too. We said the same about how it seems meatier than cod.

Had the sausage and leek hash last night, it's the second times we've had it because I enjoyed it so much last time. Which is surprising because I don't really enjoy eating sausages, but I love this dish

I just had that too @pinkchampagne1 it was so good!

I have to say Gousto introduced me to Basa and I think it's such a good fish. I like it's meaty texture, holds together much better than cod.

It’s farmed in Cambodia or somewhere though. God knows what sort of conditions it’s farmed in.

I see that the Korean recipes are back for deliveries in a few weeks. I loved them last time so have added for my choices for last week in August and first week in September.

had the hazelnut crusted lamb meatloaf today and thought it was lovely! Surprised it got 3.9 stars, I’d like to know why. It’s one that I’d happily make again.

We like this dish too, I’ve made it several times now without reordering it, I just use the existing recipe.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 31/08/2022 22:59

I can’t see that one when I look at the recipes on the app, it sounds good though!
korean prawn soup today, not great!

pinkchampagne1 · 31/08/2022 23:04

Oh no, we have the Korean prawn soup tomorrow. What did you not like about it?

We had the crispy chipotle haddock with sweet potato salad tonight. Mine looked far from crispy and the fish all crumbled up as so was frying it so it didn’t look good. Tasted nice enough though!

The instructions were weird for a start. It tells you to cook the noodles then to drain them and drizzle over some oil to stop them sticking. Then it gives you about 8-9 minutes of stuff to do, when it makes more sense to cook the noodles later!

one step also tells you to drain it.

it’s a soup.

Overall, the flavour wasn’t quite there for me either. It was quite one note. I’m interested to hear what you think of it though!

pinkchampagne1 · 01/09/2022 10:52

Oh no, that’s a shame. I usually love all the Korean flavours.
I will maybe boil my noodles a little later.

I had the Bahraini Machboos thing last night which was delicious. Tonight we've got the Korean Yang-Nyum Chicken

dizzyupthegirl86 · 01/09/2022 11:59

The Yang Nyum chicken is AMAZING!
ive made it since as well, i keep thinking it might work well in an air fryer

CornishGem1975 · 01/09/2022 12:14

Ooh good to hear. I thought it looked a bit labour intensive and so many ingredients but looking forward to trying it tonight.

pinkchampagne1 · 01/09/2022 13:05

We had that a couple of nights ago (second time ordering) and I fried the chicken in my new air fryer. Cooked it well but maybe not as crispy as when done in the pan, but then a lot less oil was used and once coated in the sauce you don’t notice.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 01/09/2022 15:08

It IS a bit labour intensive but it’s one of those where the pay off is worth it!

pinkchampagne1 · 01/09/2022 20:38

I actually quite enjoyed the Korean prawn soup but maybe I had low expectations.
I didn’t boil the noodles until the soup was almost ready though.

I’m glad you had a better experience than me! Did you find it filling? If I’d checked and realised it was 350 calories, I don’t think I’d have ordered it.

pinkchampagne1 · 01/09/2022 21:05

I didn’t feel hungry after but I had eaten some toast late afternoon which may have helped.
I did wonder if it would be enough to fill my DH, especially after seeing how low in calories it was. Probably better for a lunch than dinner. I have made him a cheese and pickle sandwich to take to work tonight!

Peri peri chicken and chips tomorrow. I have higher expectations for that!

OP posts:
pinkchampagne1 · 02/09/2022 21:56

The peri peri chicken was lovely. We did the chips in our new air fryer and they came out much better than normal

Have just had a box delivered. Had ordered the Japanese style prawn patatas bravas but am a bit worried that it’s going to be disappointing as it only gets 3.6 stars. That’s the risk you take ordering new recipes I guess!

I’m doing the duck burger tonight. Can I ask how you did the chips in the air fryer? I’m gonna give it a go. Someone on this thread mentioned steaming them first I think

pinkchampagne1 · 06/09/2022 20:12

I just rubbed them in a drizzle of oil and put them straight in the air fryer. I didn’t steam them first. They came out lovely, as did my potatoes for tonight’s meal.

We have just had the Japanese prawn dish that I was worried about and we both really enjoyed it.

Report back on the duck burger. It sounds really nice.

OP posts:
dizzyupthegirl86 · 08/09/2022 13:55

The duck burger was ok, it’s a bit of a weird combo that I’d never have thought of on my own, but it wasn’t that bad to cook. Think the standout for me was the lamb meatloaf, I really liked that.

VeganGordie · 09/09/2022 11:59

I would 100% recommend gusto for anyone who's thinking of trying it, its so easy and the meals are so so nice! 11/10, it's also better than hello fresh in my opinion
