Just had a craving for Coronation chicken, made it for my DTeens ....Everyone has gone mad for it.
Made me think.....in these times of quinoa, butternut squash and halloumi (which I love) what retro food do you still serve?

Me?
I love a retro curry with raisins.
Can’t beat chicken Kiev.
And at a party I once served a tin foil wrapped grapefruit with cheddar and pineapple on cocktail sticks (like my mother used to serve) ironic obv, but it went down a storm.

Also a prawn cocktail on avocado fan and loved ice magic as a kid - once I put it it in the freezer in an ice cube mould to make blocks of the stuff - so good . We still eat artic roll on Dr Who nights - my 11 yo loves it. This whole thread is making me hungry.

Oh, Gino Ginelli ice cream. We thought I had broken a tooth when I was little, but it was a mint chip! They were so crunchy and white...

We had tinned corned beef and home made chips the other day in desperation of a light meal as it's been so warm. It was amazing.

Herja · 10/07/2018 21:01

Sandwich spread
Chicken kievs
Cheese and pinapple (I make it just for me sometimes)

delilabell · 10/07/2018 21:02

Arctic Roll and Viennetta are big treats to my dc. Both cost £1 from the corner shop. The DC also think that Angel Delight is very special.

I buy Tunnock’s tea cakes or at least the Aldi version pretty often and we have fishfinger sandwhiches for tea quite often on a weekend.

Space Dust - still available, now generically called “popping candy”.

We had a Soda Stream, but we were never allowed the syrups, we just had to use squash.

FrankiesKnuckle · 10/07/2018 21:44

Twotabbycats · 10/07/2018 21:55

@HyacinthsBucket70 Thanks for the butterscotch tart recipe, can't believe it's so simple!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 10/07/2018 21:58

I love Bernard Matthews mini kievs! DS loves them too but DH calls them nursery food and won't touch them - all the more for us!

How could I forget tutti frutti Gino Ginelli? Mmmmmm

Loyaultemelie · 10/07/2018 22:02

Lidl version of vienetta is much more like what the proper one used to be (choclatey!)

Batchelors pasta and sauce mushroom and wine flavour with a sausage chopped through it (presumably cooked Hmm) my Grandad used to cook this for us all on holiday in the caravan.

We had arctic roll last week for first time in years and dds loved it.

I make a "mean" chocolate or toffee flan, they haven't worked out yet it's just chocolate or butterscotch angel delight on a digestive biscuit base, dds beg for it on special occasions so I hide in the kitchen drinking wine pretending to slave for ages

OhTheRoses · 10/07/2018 22:08
