I would like to think we eat like Italy or Mexico, in reality tis more like USA or UK

Fresh fruit & veg in Japan are incredibly expensive and something of a luxury item
My parents went last year, their diet is very healthy and they were looking for some melon to snack on -a quarter of a watermelon was around £10!

Depends what you wish to eat. If you are in Japan and want to eat only the kind of fruit and veg that you can pick up in Tesco, then it can be expensive. But vegetables grown in Japan, local fruit in season, not at all and far from luxury items. It also depends where they were looking at buying their fruit - my local supermarket doesn't charge anywhere near 1500 JPY for 1/4 of a watermelon.

We do eat a lot of rice and buy litres of water since ours is not safe to drink from the tap.
We (DH and DD) eat kilo's of meat a week. I've tried to go veggie a couple of days a week, but it's not met with universal success!

The sheer amount of processed crap in the American and British pictures is disturbing. No wonder there's an obesity epidemic and, while many of us on here are saying that wouldn't represent us, it's a fact that most UK and American supermarkets have aisles full of crisps and sweets and snacks and junk compared to e.g. Germany when I lived there and sweets and chocolate were available but in much smaller quantities.

You can see that in the German family's photo - they have some Kinder chocolate and ice-cream in the front of their photo but it's a small amount compared to the British stuff.

We live in the US but don't eat any fast food and barely any processed food at all. I'm celiac so most of it isn't suitable for me anyway. I would say that we're probably more like Canada in our shopping habits. In my dreams, I'm in Turkey or Guatemala though! Their stuff looks yummy...

Actually we don't eat as much meat as the Canadians have in their photo so maybe we're closer to Italy or France there...

I'm shocked that people think soda pop is horrible for you and then guzzle squash/cordial/concentrate. It's all absolutely full of sugar and/or sweetner non of which is good for you.

We are probably a mix of China and India. More veg and less soft drinks though. And all the carbs we eat are wholegrain, apart from occassional rice noodles.
I am amazed by all the soft drinks there are in all the photos. and juice too. We hardly ever buy any of it. There's a carton of orange juice in the fridge that's about a month old, nobody drinks it.

I'm also amazed at the amount of meat in Australis's table. And it looks fatty, cheap meat too.

It looks as if the British family survives almost entirely on crisps, chocolate bars and milk???? Maybe my eyes aren´t good enough.
The problem that I see here is that some of the photos are not at all representative.
Still, what probably is representative is the general amount and the amount of fresh vs. packaged stuff.

Cross between Canada, Italy and Australia here. Americans seem to eat little fruit and veg!!! If that is an accurate take on their diet. Most of our shop consists of fruit, veg, fresh fish and fresh meat. The odd bag of crisps, biscuits. But processed food is the smallest part of our shop.

So english people eat dog food - where were these pictures taken? hell of a lot of fizzy drinks and a distinct lack of alchohol....

I think Mexico and Italy are closest for our household (minus any meat).

I think the UK family must have eaten all of their takeaways before the picture was taken I can't figure out if there are any actual meals going on there. And a crazy amount of milk!

Funny how no one is claiming similaritities with the American diet, even though the only differences between the Uk and Us options are portion sizes and amounts of visible fast food...

Italy here with a little of France and Canada thrown in. We never buy fizzy drinks. I was quite shocked at the amount of fizzy drinks in some of the pics!

Another one shocked by the amount of fizzies, we buy Ribena, 2L will last us a month. I treated myself last week and bought soda water and elder flower cordial. I'm also a bit surprised at how much bread some of them have. I bought a loaf this week and froze half, otherwise it goes off. We'd probably go through more if we had sandwiches fr lunch, but we tend to take salads, or left overs.

ooo this link here includes how much each week's shop costs too. It's translated into US dollars, but at least that gives you an idea. The aussie one is expensive!
