Germany, Italy and Canada. The British one looks crap, surely most people in the UK eat more fruit & veg than that?

I'm Italian and mine is most similar to Italy, including all the pop and bread!

We do probably end up eating one or two really processed things a week though (from the UK or US tables)

I think trill is right though about people in England on the whole eating a wider variety of foods than in many other countries. People in France/Italy etc. may tend to eat very freshy/healthily on the whole but they tend not to be very adventurous cooks in turns of cooking foods from other places.

more like Italy or France I think. we buy a lot of basics, meat, veg, pasta and rice and make food from scratch. not normally a lot of ready meals or soft drinks. Shccked by the amount of soft drinks in some of the pictures!

Germany, possibly with a little less beer.

We are Germany/Australia. Not british at all, I don't buy anything like that quantity of ore packed food.

Chad is heart breaking.

colditz · 28/04/2013 19:37

Actually Mali is sadder, there are fourteen people in that family in Mali, with a pitiful amount of food to feed them

This is fascinating! Not sure which we are most like but I loved looking at the difference in consumption.

Yes Chad and Mali make me feel terrible.
I think we are most like Canada.
Shocked by all the squash and coke.

I don't know which I'd pick but I do know I'd like to sit and eat with the family from Ecuador. They look like fun!

Mostly Canada and a bit of France. It actually made me want to eat less though to see the other countries.

We don't buy any drinks other than squash, coffee and milk.

Germany or Canada with a bit of Turkey thrown in.

My daughter and I are more like Mexicos and my husband is more like Britian and he drinks our coke! My husband eats two chocolate bars with every meal and a packet a crisps. He also has a 2 litre bottle of Diet Coke a day. I try to include fruit and vegetables in all of my daughter's meals and at least a few portions in my evening meal.

Britain, although no one eats Bakers or Go Cat in our house Wink. Probably with a few more veggie items thrown in, and lots more eggs and fruit. I like that the Germans have Dr Oetker pizzas in their selection! And all their glass bottles which are probably returnable for a few cents. Shocking comparing a Chad or Mali household to a western one though. Makes you think what c....p alot of us eat that we dont need. Blush.

Italy/France, maybe Australia but with less meat.

But I can't get over how much soft drink people drink in North America/Europe!!! We don't drink any; tea, coffee, sparkling and tap water, and DS drinks milk and (ahem, possibly PFB but he loves it) elderflower cordial, and the odd apple juice. We also drink about three bottles of red wine a week, and DH a couple of bottles of beer.

Also astonished at how much packaged food and chocolate and crisps British people buy as part of their grocery shop! Yes, we buy chocolates for the odd treat, but not on a regular basis!

Are we THAT abnormal???

Canada (to be expected I guess, as we are Canadian! Grin) and France - no soft drinks or packaged/processed food in our regular weekly shop. Also probably more meat than either photo depicts.

Really interesting link, thanks OP. Certainly puts it in perspective.

australia- minus all that water!
We eat a lot of meat each week and lots of veg and fruit, not a lot of bread though

I would say our kitchen is full of the things the Canadian family have, (minus the crisps or processed things - I make everything, including our bread, jam, chutney, etc). When I was growing up, I would have said Guatamala, because we ate out of our kitchen garden and fruit trees extensively and canned a lot of it to eat all winter long.... and really couldn't afford meat.

I mean to say, we have no soft drinks here either. Just tea, coffee, water and bit of juice for the toddler.
