What the world eats

I would like to think we eat like Italy or Mexico, in reality tis more like USA or UK

France or Canada.

Britain looks terrible!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 29/04/2013 22:41

DD and DS also enjoyed looking at both the weekly groceries and the possessions series. What a brilliant idea from the photographer. Amazing to see the diversity eg of diets, and such few and simple possessions that many families have around the world. It's so easy to forget that. Fascinating and very thought-provoking.

pourmeanotherglass · 29/04/2013 22:57

Canada I think - the UK family had very little in the way of fresh fruit and veg.

shockers · 29/04/2013 23:03

Most like France, but I'm sure our family of 4 don't get through that volume of food in a week!

There is massive food inequality, with regard to volume and choice, in the world.

mathanxiety · 30/04/2013 02:52

Very like Poland here except substitute wine for the Coke. And I make rather than buy bread. Not half as much chocolate bars though. And of course no Marmite in Poland.

mathanxiety · 30/04/2013 02:58

Not surprising as I shop a good deal in Polish groceries.

cuppateaanyone · 30/04/2013 06:34

Canada and Italy here

MrsMaryCooper · 30/04/2013 06:48

Turkey.

I love the French cat. Don't think he is for eating though.

lljkk · 30/04/2013 09:40

Wow, Turks do eat so healthy if those pictures are realistic (was true when I lived with them, too; large house full of vegetarians but the carnivorous 2 Turks + DH ate the most veggie-laden diets by a huge margin).

I think France/Germany/Poland/Canada are most like us.
Very scary how little volume of food the Chadean family had. :(

duchesse · 30/04/2013 09:45

Juggling, I have to say I'm rather tempted to buy his books. His pictures are very thought-provoking.

QueenofWhispers · 30/04/2013 10:00

India--but then again we are an Indian family.

BigBoobiedBertha · 30/04/2013 10:47

Britian, sort of.

I notice a few surprising and/or interesting things (to me anyway).

For example Mexico looks balanced until you notice the amount of coke bottles lined up. Australia has loads of meat (their obesity is apparently worse than ours), Japan loads of packets but definitely the most fish (that doesn't surprise me - the packets sort of fit with the high tech image) and Germany seems to have loads of beer, wine and fruit juice.

I am also quite surprised that the Brits seem to have quite a small table compared with some of the Western tables. And not a lot of alcohol or fizzy drinks but loads of milk. We don't get through anything like that amount of milk in our house.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 30/04/2013 12:32

Most like France, except I buy Coke Blush that I drink myself. The DDs aren't really allowed fizzy drinks, but they're not particularly interested in them anyway. Which is just as well, because I'm addicted (embarrasingly)

Foodylicious · 30/04/2013 13:16

Canada or France I think - notice how the German food is the most organised!!

Rockinhippy · 30/04/2013 14:30

Very interesting link, really shows up the worlds food inequality well.

I can't really see us, but I suppose a Japan looks the closest due to the predominance of fish & i cant see any meat, but maybe a bit of France & Kuwait thrown in - that surprised me as I'd have guessed at us probably more in common with Greek & italian

Rockinhippy · 30/04/2013 14:33

Oh, maybe not Japan either then, I didn't spot all the packets

I feel left out now

GwennieF · 30/04/2013 16:36

Closest to France but without the bottled water...

Probably Mexico minus what looks like lots of fizzy drinks plus more bread.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 30/04/2013 22:14

Canada

TheYamiOfYawn · 30/04/2013 22:31

I did the grocery shopping yesterday and took a photo of my own. It was probably the most like Turkey or Italy, although nothing was really an exact comparison.

goingtobefree · 30/04/2013 23:06

India

goingtobefree · 30/04/2013 23:09

But quite like Guatemala, not a single processes food item in sight

BlackeyedSusan · 01/05/2013 00:28

did you click on the other link. they had photos from greenland, with freshly caught sea birds as part of their diet.

MoelFammau · 01/05/2013 02:05

Probably somewhere between Italy and Australia. Less meat and no soft drinks - only tea, coffee and water in our house! But a lot more bananas.
