I have come to the conclusion that I am the luckiest person in the world - I am healthy, fit and not obese, have a good education, a nice job, 2 well behaved, kind, clever, healthy daughters , a lovely husband and a well trained dog who does not jump up on people or bark incessantly.

these things just "happen" on mumsnet - they are a combination of genetics and luck..... I have obviously NEVER put ANY work into ANY of the above.... I am lucky......

well, I'm taking responsibility for my lucky-ducky-self and refusing to tie myself in knots over it any more.... there I go again.... preventing an ulcer.... or is it pure luck that I don't have one......

Only reading Maryz summary of the spat, and I am a bit .

I confess to also being one of the hand washing brigade, and I am absolutely certain it helps to reduce colds, flu, D&V etc. Not to say for a second that those who are experiencing it are somehow less concerned with hygiene.

Of course this doesn't translate into preventing serious life -threatening illnesses.

Beryl, I hate to rain on your parade, but we're a bit slack on the old handwashing in this house. (Not, like, filthy- just 'relaxed') but we don't have much in the way of illnesses and bugs. My DCs rarely have to have time off school. I had flu once when I was a child, and have never had a D&V bug. I can't remember when I last had a cold- maybe 10 years ago. In our case, I think we have luck and genetics to thank.
