Wanted to start a thread about the new Michael Jackson film, just got home from watching it!

I don’t know why the critics are slating it, I absolutely loved it! Yes, it didn’t show his whole life picture but I think people are forgetting this was just showing one era of it … there is no way you could fit his life story into a 2 hour film!

What’s your thoughts if you’ve seen it ???

Haven’t seen it but me my DD & mum are hoping to see it over the weekend we are looking forward to it. My mum was a huge MJ fan growing up.

likelysuspect · 22/04/2026 22:09

Does it detail all the problems?

No, it starts off from when he was young in the 60s and does show some of the abuse he had growing up from his dad and ends around 88’ around the Bad Tour era. I don’t want to spoil too much.

Saw it last night. Myself and 14 year old loved it. Jaamal is amazing!! He was spot on re the Thriller and Bad eras. Bubbles was adorable 😍 😍 Part 2 coming then 👍 We've booked to see it again next week.

There's a little violence with Joseph whipping Michael with his belt. That was hard to watch 😔

flabbypea · 23/04/2026 11:46

Me and my daughter went last night to watch it and we both thought it was amazing. The boy playing young Micheal was brilliant and jaafar was mesmerising. At points you thought you were watching Micheal and forgot it wasn’t him. I knew it was only the first part and that they were in the process of making the 2nd part already but I was not prepared for that abrupt ending lol.

Omg I know how amazing was he? The dedication and practice just absolutely incredible!

I also didn’t realise how much he loved animals! LOL! he basically had a zoo!!
Made me love him even more!

Right?!! They started showing him on the Bad Tour in London just at the end, I wanted them to keep going not finish the film 😂 but interesting to see there is a part 2!

Yes! He was incredible, the mannerisms and everything.

Interesting about the part 2 … I don’t know which direction they will go in with that…

Did you know Bubbles is still alive and he’s 42!!! 💕

Will be interesting to see this after watching the documentary on NBC this week. Wonder if part 2 will gloss over his interest in boys.

I meant his sexual abuse of children

beguilingeyes · 24/04/2026 09:44

In my heart I believe he was guilty of child abuse, so I don't want anything to do with him and am not quite sure why he's still so lionised.

henlake7 · 24/04/2026 14:26

I thought it was an ok film, not as bad as the critics seems to suggest but it did give me Hallmark movie vibes.
Also its so hard to take MJ seriously with that voice (I know, not his fault but he kinda sounds like a cartoon character!!LOL).😄

maras2 · 24/04/2026 14:38

DH is just off to see this with our DGD.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Abracadabra12345 · Yesterday 07:39

I saw it yesterday with 2 friends, one who had seen the Jackson 5 on stage and still remembered how incredible little Michael was. The other said it was the best film she’d seen for a long time, and she sees a lot of films. We all want to see it again!

I haven’t read the critics’ views and don’t intend to. All I know is that we absolutely loved it. My jaw was on the floor, seeing the adult Michael’s footwork and dance moves. He was a genius. We all plan to search out his music videos and concert footage!

My friend (the one who saw Jackson 5) said exactly the same:that you forgot you weren’t watching the real Michael, so good were the actors and performances.

Amazing as the film was, I do agree with a pp who said it was a bit Hallmark movie - it did have that vibe occasionally when we get to the adult Michael

Namechange0989 · Yesterday 08:13

Honestly don't know how people can still enjoy anything to do with him. You wouldn't watch an episode of Jim'll Fix it or listen to Gary Glitter.

somanychristmaslights · Yesterday 08:21

I think there’s a disparity between the critics view and the audience as the critics are looking at it obviously through a critical eye. Whereas the audience are fans of Michael so will generally see it in a positive light.
Michael’s son Prince was involved in it, and then with his nephew being the lead, there was never going to be anything negative in it. Sheila from LBC radio yesterday kept going on and on that there was nothing about the allegations in the film, but clearly hadn’t researched it as the timeline shown in the film wouldn’t mention that.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · Yesterday 10:43

@somanychristmaslights the film did originally cover the allegations but had to be removed due to some clause/agreement made with Jordy Chandler.

Foughties · Yesterday 10:56

I was a HUGE MJ fan since childhood. Bloody loved him, but people watching this film and gushing over it absolutely sickens me. Its appalling. Radio 2 seem intent on playing him every day, especially Trevor Nelson, and it is a shame that I can no longer listen to some of my favourite songs, but the man was sharing his bed with little boys. Its absolutely crazy people ignoring this and even getting their dc into him.

Same with the daft bint on This morning yesterday. I wish people would do their research 🙄

Seeing it again on Wednesday and with friends next Thursday. 😀

There’s a saying isn’t there. Innocent until proven guilty. Last time I checked Micheal was never charged with the allegations against him. I don’t believe for one second that he abused children but some do and that’s what opinion is. But it doesn’t give you the right to judge others for going to watch the film and love it or still listen to his songs. Why you would even comment on a thread about a film that you have no interest in watching baffles me no end.

Yes, innocent in a similar way to OJ Simpson.

At least two of the jurors have since admitted that they were certain he had abused children, but couldn't get past the pressure and manipulation to find him not guilty.

12 individuals have now come out to say that he sexually abused them - the chances of them all being false allegations are statistically extremely rare (something like 1 in a billion).

Do you have kids?
Hand on heart would you have been comfortable leaving them to sleep in his house overnight knowing what he was accused of?
