Wanted to start a thread about the new Michael Jackson film, just got home from watching it!

I don’t know why the critics are slating it, I absolutely loved it! Yes, it didn’t show his whole life picture but I think people are forgetting this was just showing one era of it … there is no way you could fit his life story into a 2 hour film!

What’s your thoughts if you’ve seen it ???

Jordy Chandler. His brother did an interview saying he went underground and is still deeply traumatised. Fans have been known to throw poo at his house. He has to keep moving and changing social circles. Like hes the criminal not the victim.

No, that was his uncle, in an interview from 2004.

And usually that would be enough on mumsnet

im so aghast at people who would usually out their grandma for kissing their child on the lips turning away from the truth because it’s convenient

Its remarkable this thread

Recently there was a thread about a mum whose father or FIL (cant remember) was going into her daughters bedroom, or having the child upstairs while doing day care and playing with the door shut. I didnt read the whole thread but from what I read that was the 'only' concern, the child hadnt made any allegation or seemed to be distressed or uncomfortable, I might have missed that

But the bits I did read were that the overwhelming majority felt that
a) this was inappropriat and she must put a stop to it (her husband wasnt backing her up) and was being reasonable in her concern but
b) a consensus among posters that men shouldnt be doing childcare becuase they're more prone to abusing children, that they wouldnt leave their kids with men in particular

Yet here on this thread, a man who

slept with children in his bed
was found with porn, drugs, alcohol with the children's toys
built a childrens playground and played with kids, hung out with kids, was 'friends' with kids
had an intense focus for boys aged 10-14 more or less and then those aged boys fizzled out for him to be replaced by others
had the parents of the children moved further and further away in the house so they werent near their own kids during the night
bought the kids huge expensive presents, paid for parents cars, jobs, houses in some cases
had a myriad of allegations made against him
had locks and alarms on the corridors to his bedroom where he had play fights and camped with kids
told the viewing public and told the boys he was with 'theres nothing more loving than sharing your bed and if you love me, you'll share my bed with me'

And people feel that there is room for doubt when allegations had been made about him including one very specificially describing the abusers genitalia which matched with that very genitalia.

Quite remarkable.

No, that was his uncle, in an interview from 2004.

"Jordy's brother Ray said in an interview in 2004 his sibling struggled with the "weight" of being the boy, then man, at the heart of the scandal. He added: "Despite the fact that he's got a lot of money he'll always be the Michael Jackson kid,' he says. 'It's a heavy weight to tote around.
"Whenever he starts with a new social group someone figures it out and he can't stay in the group because people continue to talk about it. 'How much money did you get? Did he do it?" - from The Mirror 2025.

Eastereggschocolateisthebest · 27/04/2026 15:41

@likelysuspect i know !!!! Usually just having a younger boyfriend who likes your kids is met with LTB!! People are going out of their way to not believe what’s staring in the face here

amazed at the turning away on here

yes I saw that post it was suspicious because the GP didnt want to play upstairs with boys and offered to go to the toilet with her when parents were around and also set up “secrets from mummy”- completely not interested in grandson

@amibeingaknob Ray is the brother of Evan Chandler, Jordy’s brother. Jordy’s siblings have never given interviews, so the Mirror article is inaccurate.

You mean brother of his father?

Yes, sorry - Ray is Evan Chandlers brother.

Be prepared to be judged by the know it alls on here.

@Itsnearlyxmas - 'Know it alls'? You mean people who care about not supporting a nonce. I mean seriously that shouldn't be an especially moral stance should it.

Despite growing up loving his music I can't listen anymore and don't understand why it's being played on stations like Radio 2. At the very least he had sleep overs with young boys, that raises enough red flags. I do believe victims who've spoken out and it's shocking to me that people are able ignore their testimony.

Exactly. Why the fuck are they making films about him?

And how fair was a trial going to be anyway? He was a worldwide superstar - everyone knew him.

Not fair at all judging by the comments on here.

A nonce in your opinion. Are you always this closed minded?

MJ was a genuis and hugely successful but I hate all this 'first black superstar' (and I know you said one of the first)

Same with Bill Cosby

Has everyone forgotten or ignored all the black stars and performers and ground breakers who came before them?

Yes, indeed.

flabbypea · 27/04/2026 19:14

Micheal has smashed box office records, $217m in its opening weekend. Looks like a lot of people don’t hold the same views as mn lol even after his death he is still adored.

Fizbosshoes · 27/04/2026 19:19

If this was a different 40 year old bloke - a dad at your kids school, a neighbour, Dave the binman or Mike who works at Morrisons, literally no one would be saying it was OK that they - by their own admission - had sleepovers with unrelated prepubescent boys, because :

  • They were innocent and childlike
  • they loved children
  • they had a traumatic and difficult childhood themselves....

....but somehow its different....

Close minded? Despite the billion dollar cover up machine all the evidence is overwhelming and readily available- but someone seeing that is the close minded one? Truly baffling

I know it begs believe

all these women would be saying LTB and get away if it was as you say dave the binman

nothing more fickle than a MNer - just looking the other way when it suits

and as you say even just the sleeping with 8 yesr old boys in his bad that would usually have Mners frothing at the mouth

likelysuspect · 27/04/2026 21:41

I find this with discussions about drugs on here, a bit of coke, a bit of dope, its all harmless even though there are countless kids involved in being exploited. Basically mind your own business

Oh I forgot, its all home grown, thats a classic as well

Empress13 · 30/04/2026 06:32

Aside from everything else re allegations of sexual abuse and leaving that to one side, I loved the film. Was totally mesmerised by Jaafar’s performance he was fantastic! Also wondered why Janet wasn’t featured. Also wondered why Katherine didn’t leave Joe she certainly had the money and support but I’m guessing she too was afraid of him.

VictoriaAshe · 30/04/2026 08:43

I haven’t seen it, but all the reviews I’ve seen have described the film as bland, corporate promo. Despite having loved Bad and Thriller when I was about eight, I can’t imagine being motivated to go out and watch the film.

FrLarryDuff · 30/04/2026 08:48

My son went to see it with his girlfriend. The verdict was, ‘Bad’ (no pun). He said it’s probably OK if you were a fan.
