Wanted to start a thread about the new Michael Jackson film, just got home from watching it!

I don’t know why the critics are slating it, I absolutely loved it! Yes, it didn’t show his whole life picture but I think people are forgetting this was just showing one era of it … there is no way you could fit his life story into a 2 hour film!

What’s your thoughts if you’ve seen it ???

OP posts:
Itsnearlyxmas · 01/05/2026 09:51

Very interesting, so much more research done than by the posters on here who think they know best!

RipplePlease · 01/05/2026 11:00

I loved it too but when I thought about it, what I loved were all the performances. Amazing!
Off the Wall is still one of my favourite albums.

aberamagold · 01/05/2026 11:11

He revolts me. The stupid pretend childish voice, the paedophilia (the evidence for this is overwhelming).
I've no idea why people want to see a film about him, and gush over how much they love him.

Mine too. Also loved the Invincible album too. Some great songs on there. Butterflies and Break O dawn 😀

Me and my daughter went last night to watch it and we both thought it was amazing. The boy playing young Micheal was brilliant and jaafar was mesmerising. At points you thought you were watching Micheal and forgot it wasn’t him. I knew it was only the first part and that they were in the process of making the 2nd part already but I was not prepared for that abrupt ending lol.

The guy who played Michael Jackson is his nephew - his father being Jermaine Jackson

fundamentallyauthentic · 03/05/2026 14:53

I enjoyed it in the whole, but thought the last third or quarter was lacking story - I guess these scenes for this section were shot but not included in the final cut. Hopefully they’ll be included in the downloadable release in a few months’ time.

Its remarkable this thread

Recently there was a thread about a mum whose father or FIL (cant remember) was going into her daughters bedroom, or having the child upstairs while doing day care and playing with the door shut. I didnt read the whole thread but from what I read that was the 'only' concern, the child hadnt made any allegation or seemed to be distressed or uncomfortable, I might have missed that

But the bits I did read were that the overwhelming majority felt that
a) this was inappropriat and she must put a stop to it (her husband wasnt backing her up) and was being reasonable in her concern but
b) a consensus among posters that men shouldnt be doing childcare becuase they're more prone to abusing children, that they wouldnt leave their kids with men in particular

Yet here on this thread, a man who

slept with children in his bed
was found with porn, drugs, alcohol with the children's toys
built a childrens playground and played with kids, hung out with kids, was 'friends' with kids
had an intense focus for boys aged 10-14 more or less and then those aged boys fizzled out for him to be replaced by others
had the parents of the children moved further and further away in the house so they werent near their own kids during the night
bought the kids huge expensive presents, paid for parents cars, jobs, houses in some cases
had a myriad of allegations made against him
had locks and alarms on the corridors to his bedroom where he had play fights and camped with kids
told the viewing public and told the boys he was with 'theres nothing more loving than sharing your bed and if you love me, you'll share my bed with me'

And people feel that there is room for doubt when allegations had been made about him including one very specificially describing the abusers genitalia which matched with that very genitalia.

Quite remarkable.

You forgetting a one very important part.
He sort of had to grew up in the age of 8 years old, practically he lost a huge part of his childhood.
Had no same age friends and his sibling were much older.
He mentioned this in the movie when his mum asked him if he would like to have same age friends, he said yes -but they would not understand him, only seeing him as through his star status.
That’s the one reason why he surrounded himself with 9-14 years old boys.
To match the important longing part from his childhood he lost and was ripped out of his life.
Isn’t that particular age quite important? You get playing, learning, making friends..
He lost it.
I guess he got stuck in this age slot, hence surrounding himself with what he lost to make up for it.
Thats what I think especially when it’s mentioned he only chose certain age boys and not girls, he probably dreamed playing as Pirates with boys on Neverland island ( no girls)

Totally agree, very well said. Sadly so many others are very narrow minded and just don't seem to see this.

poppybuttons · 04/05/2026 12:48

The film has now taken more than $400 million globally and in some European territories beat The Devil Wears Prada 2 opening weekend.

Right, so if Dave at the end of the street had the same kind of childhood and similar issues, you’d be quite happy to allow your children to hang out with him at his house and have overnight stays sleeping in his bed, would you?

Exactly if it was anyone else (work colleague, next door neighbour, brother in law, local shopkeeper) who wanted to hang out with (almost exclusively) tween/young teen boys and have them for sleepovers ....that would be fine if
they had a difficult or abusive childhood, or something happened that meant they missed a normal childhood?
All innocent and OK? Nothing weird or inappropriate going on, just someone making up for their lost years....

Meredusoleil · 04/05/2026 20:02

Just watched this today and did like it, but felt it was a bit on the long side.

Loved the little Michael and Jaafar was outstanding as MJ. So alike it was as if his uncle was there instead of him! Also, the Joseph actor and Nia Long as Katherine. Bubbles was very cute too.

A few things I did not know about:
Motown/Berry Gordy told the young Michael to lie about his age making him 8 when he was actually 10;
That he had the same bodyguard for all those years and who he was;
That there was another guy who helped MJ become the superstar he became (the white guy who took over his management, can't remember his name).

Slight criticism but nothing that pit me off the film:
MJ was a lot fairer skinned later on (due to vitiligo he said, as was mentioned in the film), but Jaafar wasn't;
MJ was taller and thinner than Jaafar;
The film ended a but abruptly after playing nearly the whole of Human Nature and Bad 👎

Yes very important in terms of stunted development

But he did go through puberty, he will have developed a sexuality.

Stunted development and a childlike emotional psychology, yes
Physical development and sexual desires of a fully grown man, yes
Predliction for fancying and being sexually attracted AND acting upon those desires for male children aged 10-14, yes.

There's no help for the gullible.....

I personally really enjoyed the film. The production was outstanding and the guy playing Michael was fantastic. It was a very enjoyable experience, especially the music performances. We saw it at the local IMAX and all I can say WOWWWWWW!!!

Kastri · 08/05/2026 22:19

He had plenty of nephews and nieces if he wanted to re create his lost childhood.
He was a creepy paedo and a master manipulator.
He was a businessman, not an innocent child.
He groomed the parents as well as the boys.
He knew exactly how to manipulate people. When his 'special friends'aged out,he dumped them and replaced them.
He was a narcissist.

Great wasn't it. Saw it a 3rd time last night with a friend who saw it for the first time. She wants to see it again. She couldn't get over how alike Jaafar was to MJ.

I don’t usually buy films but I will buy this one when it’s out in a few months’ time. I’m glad it’s doing so well.

Dave at the end of the street didn't though.

Nobody did except MJ. He was a one off, he always was.

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 11/05/2026 14:44

Back to the film.

We really enjoyed it. I found out a lot more about my childhood idol than I knew before.

The actors were incredible, especially those playing MJ. Proper nostalgia.

I loved the stage performance of Human Nature ❤️

MyLimeGuide · 14/05/2026 19:35

Ive just seen it, I thought it was stunning. I now love MJ more than ever.
