I think Billy Crudup and Kate Hudson are fantastic casting in Almost Famous - as is the casting of the whole film.

Daniel Day Lewis in everything is brilliant. And Julianne Moore is great in everything.

I have never recovered from the wrongness of Cameron Diaz in Gangs Of New York or Anna Hathaway in Interstellar.

Bonnie Bedelia, Alan Rickman & Bruce Willis were all excellent in Die Hard.
Rupert in Rivals was wrong. Agree about Andie M in 4 weddings.

NoahsTortoise · 01/12/2024 08:09

Worst for me was Daniel Radcliffe in the Woman in Black. Way too young for that role, it was like a whole film of the "19 years later..." part of Harry Potter!

Footballorrugby · 01/12/2024 08:09

Kate Winslet and Idris Elba in The Mountain Between Us. I don’t think either of them are right in the parts.

whyschoolwhy · 01/12/2024 08:18

Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess and Romola Garai in One Day (worst).

Great - Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games. John Travolta and Nicolas Cage in Face/Off. Pretty much all of the Game of Thrones cast (apart from Rose Leslie who was great in the role but doesn't match the book description at all).

Viviennemary · 01/12/2024 08:24

Sam Heugan in Outlander. He Was Jamie. Bad ones. The blonde actress in Agatha Raisin. Worst ever. Agatha was small with dark hair. Totally ruined it.
Didn't like Keira Knightly as Elizabeth in P&P. I liked all the casting in the BBC one except Jane. How was she a great beauty? But I read that was the look that was considered most handsome at the time.

I was just about to write I thought she was unexpectedly brilliant.

The actress in 4 weddings and a funeral...'is it raining, I hadn't noticed'

Oh yes… she was dire.

Agree the p and p comments here. I like Keira K but she somehow didn’t work for me and of course the lack of Colin Firth was like Christmas with no presents.

Modern Family is perfect casting

The 90s Pride and prejudice is amazing. Did the book for a level and the actors personified how I imagined them. Obviously Colin firth but also Rossmund Pike.

Enjoyed Little Women and with the exception of Emma Watson their acting was great but they were just not believable as sisters. And I speak as someone who does not look like my own sisters!

Rosamund Pike wasn't in that version was she ? She was in the Keira Knightley film which was a v poor second best.

Lhasatude · 01/12/2024 08:34

Aishwariya Rai in Bride and Prejudice. Very beautiful but not a great actress.

Calliopespa · 01/12/2024 08:35

Maggie the Great as Violet in Downton.

I think the actress that played Jane was pregnant during filming as well so lots of loose gowns and hiding of bumps etc didn't help. But I think.Sussanah Harker was suitably pretty myself. Didn't like Keira Knightley as Lizzy but Jennifer Ehle was amazing. I can't take my eyes off her . She was in something recently and was fantastic. A great actress who doesn't get the recognition she deserves.

calimali · 01/12/2024 08:43

I was unexpectedly very impressed by the cast of Wicked. Great all rounder - singing, dancing, acting all spot on.

Agree with all PP about the BBC version of P and P. Superb cast and recent versions just don't come close.

Michael Sheen is a chameleon. I don't know how he does it but wow. It is especially difficult to take on the role of real life people, but he is always spot on.

BottomlessBrunch · 01/12/2024 08:44

Leo Di Caprio and Claire Danes as Romeo and Juliet

BottomlessBrunch · 01/12/2024 08:46

Are some of the best that was meant to say

User12385359 · 01/12/2024 08:52

Best: Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly in the Devil Wears Prada.

Worst: Keira Knightley in everything, but especially Anna Karenina.

SophiaRose91 · 01/12/2024 08:53

Emma Watson as Belle in the real life Beauty and The Beast. She is nowhere near what Belle should look like.

Sgtmajormummy · 01/12/2024 08:56

Only bad ones here.
The entire cast of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. They got the book so wrong.
And when I saw William Hurt was Mr Rochester in the Zeffirelli version of Jane Eyre….bahahaha!

unmp · 01/12/2024 08:57

Best castings include;

Whole cast of Young Sheldon

Queen Charlotte-A Bridgerton story

Peaky Blinders (can't imagine any one else pulling off Arthur, aunt polly, Tommy or Tom Harry's characters!

Will come back for my worst casting list

itwasonlyhalloween10minutesago · 01/12/2024 08:58

Of all the casting in Rivals the one who was most like I imagined her was the actress who played Caitlin, I thought she was great.

Eddie Redmayn in the Fantastic Beasts series. I seriously don’t get him, he only seems to be able to play one part and then applies to all.

itwasonlyhalloween10minutesago · 01/12/2024 08:59

Oh and all of the Big Bang Theory but especially Amy Farrah Fowler (or however you spell her name) she was brilliant.

Calliopespa · 01/12/2024 08:59

SophiaRose91 · 01/12/2024 08:53

Emma Watson as Belle in the real life Beauty and The Beast. She is nowhere near what Belle should look like.

I think she’s very beautiful actually. Maybe not Disney, more classic than that.

Gulbekian · 01/12/2024 08:59

Worst:
Kenneth Brannagh as Gilderoy Lockheart in Harry Potter.

Best:
Lawrence Fox as James Hathaway in Lewis.
Kiera Knightly as Joan Clarke in The Imitation Game.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 01/12/2024 09:07

Maybe not worst, but v bad, Daisy Ridley in new Star Wars. I get that they were trying to channel a Luke skywalker vibe, but watching a posh girl with no emotional depth pretend to be an intergalactic orphan with super powers was…disappointing. Especially up against the delectable Adam Driver.

I agree about Michael Sheen being best in pretty much anything. He made me have some sympathy for Prince Andrew in the latest docu drama on Netflix. Crikey

healthybychristmas · 01/12/2024 09:26

Jodie Comer as Villanelle. Absolutely amazing

Footballorrugby · 01/12/2024 09:27

A pp mentioning Laurence Fox there has reminded me of Freddie Fox as Jeremy Bamber in White House Farm. Wow he was absolutely brilliant!
