Your personal Best and worst casting ever

I think Billy Crudup and Kate Hudson are fantastic casting in Almost Famous - as is the casting of the whole film.

Daniel Day Lewis in everything is brilliant. And Julianne Moore is great in everything.

I have never recovered from the wrongness of Cameron Diaz in Gangs Of New York or Anna Hathaway in Interstellar.

I agree re Cameron Diaz in GONY. I also really didn’t feel Leo de C and Kate Winslet worked in Titanic.

I agree about Titanic - she is too mature a woman for the lad Leo somehow.
Not really convincing.

Best - everyone in the BBC Pride and Prejuduce plus Sean Bean in just about everything. Worst- Ray Winston as Beowulf - ‘I’m gonna kill your monsta!’ has left an indelible scar in my brain that can’t ever be erased.

I agree - even though she is younger than him IRL

Worst casting for me is Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.

Best is Colin Firth as Mr Darcy

Worst - the casting of young Lily in Harry Potter who has brown eyes and not green which was an important part of the story.

Harry Potter also doesn’t have green eyes in the films, which was disappointing

True, Harry’s were blue so Lilys should have matched.

Best casting for me is probably Gary Oldman, and Philip Seymour Hoffman in pretty much everything - actors who just become the role, whatever it is.

Alan Rickman as Snape in Harry Potter was the best.

Emma Watson as Hermione was the worst.

As we are in the Christmas movie season then Worst Jack Black in The Holiday and Martine McCutcheon in Love Actually.

Absolute best, hands down, is Christoph Waltz as Colonel Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds. Just absolute perfection, and the best character in the film by far.

Worst, off the top of my head (though if I give myself time I could probably think of much better examples) is Bella Ramsey as Ellie in The Last of Us.

Having just rewatched it a few days ago, Kate Winslet as Marianne in Sense & Sensibility is just perfect

Eric Stonestreet (Cam) and Sofia Vergara (Gloria) in Modern Family.

Imelda Staunton as both Professor Umbridge in Harry Potter and as the Queen in the Crown. Elizabeth Debicki as Diana was also great casting.

What was wrong with Emma?

I like Timothee Chalamet in Wonka.
ETA and Hugh grant as the Oompa Loompa.

Oh how did I forget Colin as Darcy?

I wasn’t totally convinced by Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones.

Christian Bale as Batman. Superb.

Robert Pattinson as Batman. Awful!!!!

Tobias Menzies as Prince Phillip in the Crown was brilliant.

Dominic West as-a Prince Charles was dire.

Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller.

The casting in “This is Us” is phenomenal.

Chrissy Metz and Hannah Zeile as Kate at different ages were particularly good. It’s like you are watching the same person 20 years apart.

worst? The current one that comes to mind is Disclaimer. Should be a great cast, but it just doesn’t work. And Rupert in Rivals. Right vibe, wrong look.

The casting if the original BBC pride and prejudice was brilliant.
Casting for the 2022 matilda musical was pretty rubbish.
