Could we have a support thread for those who have manic depressive illness / bipolar disorder?

I don't see it talked about much here but it is quite common - I can't believe there are not other Mners who have it? Even if you name change it would help to hear how you manage your lives with it, etc.

I take medication, having had times where I didn't want to /self-medicated with alcohol etc....I find that it helps but I do still have relapses and after dd3 was born had to go into hospital for a month because sleep disrupted nights and stress with family made me get unwell.

All in all I find it exhausting to live with as well as frustrating.

is there another doctor you could ask to see ? maybe you would be more at ease with a lady doctor ?

mummylin2495 · 11/09/2009 22:32

im not sure about where else you could go ,maybe someone on this thread will know more about that.

PurpleOne · 12/09/2009 00:24

You cannot get a Dx out of thin air, you NEED to have a chat with a sympathetic doctor. Maybe a referral to your local CMHT, or a CPN.
Have you thought about Social Services, esp as you have children?
my family worker has been fabulous today, and has given me the number for the out of hours duty team, so I can access help any time of the night.

sunshines, keep talking.

No improvement in my mood the past few days and feeling like utter rubbish. How's everyone else doing?

PurpleOne · 12/09/2009 04:45

Anyone else awake at this god forsaken time of night, with bad thoughts, and listening to the children snoring?
Not even been to bed yet...

Podrick · 12/09/2009 06:12

Hi purpleone, do you have the kids with you in your bed to cuddle?

mummylin2495 · 12/09/2009 10:06

i am hoping that somehow you all have a bit better day today, good to see purpleone that you now have access for help at anytime,im sure that must be a little bit of relief for you. thesunshinesbrightly i do hope you have had time to think about what you are going to do and making the first step on your recovery from whatever it is that is making you feel so bad,but you need a doctor to tell you what is wrong.Go On be brave ,once you have taken the first step ,it wont seem quite so scary.

mummylin2495 · 14/09/2009 12:13

how are you all today ?

Cazabelle · 15/09/2009 20:34

Hi

Can I join too Hope everyone is doing ok. I'm a bit of a lurker and with this illness I get paranoid so apologies in advance if I disapear for a while. I've had this for 15yrs although semi dx 2 yrs ago. I have had two spells in hospital 1 self induced and the other an extreme mania reaction to anti ds. I was dx as PND hence the anti ds. I have been off meds (depakote) for 5mths and rely heavly on CBT it has taken near 4yrs to get the hang of it so anyone doing a course of CBT perciver i totally believe in it. I suffer hallucinations and use the CBT to talk myself into seeing reality. I still feel the waves coming on and it is a battle at the moment I have swung moods in the last 48hrs and I'm zonked I am struggling to find work and not good at being at home all day with DD. Had anyone ever remained med free? I don't like them as I have lost control when on them. Sorry about the long post I also get v. self absorbed Im glad you started this thread and hopefully we can all help each other ride out the journeys x

Hi
i'm trying to get my head round what i may have, i have some of the syptoms of bipolar but i am trying to cope without going to the doctor, i have mood swings to they are awful! and most of the time i just want to stay in bed all day a shut out the world i have panic attacks and sometimes i feel like i want this all to end, but i have kids so in reality it is only a dream

thesunshinesbrightly · 15/09/2009 21:36

sorry i dont think my post much help
i dont have anyone to talk too in real so i vent it on here, which in hindsight is not a great thing to do, when we are all feeling so down.

sorry

mummylin2495 · 15/09/2009 22:42

thesunshinesbrightly · 15/09/2009 23:07

mummylin2495 · 15/09/2009 23:11

how is cutting your hair going to make you feel better ?? how long had i taken you to grow it ? but never mind ,at least it can grow again.did you do it ot of frustration ?

thesunshinesbrightly · 15/09/2009 23:17

2 years and i regret it now, i not sure why i did it, i guess i want to change myslef.

mummylin2495 · 15/09/2009 23:18

well dont worry about it now ,whats done is done ,no good thinkin aboutyesterday ,you need to look forward to tomorrow now.short hair can look very nice anyway

thesunshinesbrightly · 15/09/2009 23:18

i'd love to be someone else for the day, just get away ya'know.

thesunshinesbrightly · 15/09/2009 23:19

thankyou mummylin

your sister is very lucky to have you

mummylin2495 · 15/09/2009 23:23

well now you have changed your hair style why not go and treat yourself to a new top or something as well.

mummylin2495 · 15/09/2009 23:26

and if you were someone else ,you would then have someone elses problems !ll tell you another thing that my sister did ,when she was bad ,she joined a choir ! she is still in it and they do several shows per year, that gave her an extra interest and made her stop thinking about her problems all the time, gave her something to focus on too as she had to learn all the songs [ and dance too ]

thesunshinesbrightly · 15/09/2009 23:33

aww that's great, maybe thats what i need a focus, i'm terrible at singing hym's, i sound like a drowned cat
but maybe something else.

mummylin2495 · 15/09/2009 23:35

do you fancy going to an art class ,belly dancing,or maybe a drama class or anything like that ,what would you say you have a talent for ,and i believe everyone has something !! come on dont be shy and tell me !

mummylin2495 · 15/09/2009 23:37

my sis dosent sing hymns ,its not that sort of choir ,they may be in a production of somethinglike " annie get your gun" or something like that. her choir joins up with the drama group for the shows so there is singing and dancing in it .thay are normally very good and there is always a big show in november which of course i wil be going to see

thesunshinesbrightly · 15/09/2009 23:39

terrible at drawing, belly dancing i've had kids and it's not what it used to be,drama infront of people i would just die.

Animals i love them, ermm i'm not good at anything really just looking after kids
