This has been going on for the past year or so, she has a neighbour who when he first moved in, was noisy, keeping her up at night etc and driving her up the wall.
Nwow he is quiet, but she has came COMPLETELY obsessed with him.
Her whole life is about him.
The most extreme example I can give you is one day in her garden , she was pottering, and the neighbour shut his window and left his flat, and in her head he had been watching her, was irritated her so she followed him in her car with intention of running him over.
Now all he had ACTUALLY done was shut his window and left his flat, the rest was imaginary, in her head.
She has just popped by my house, she couldnt ring me because he would hear...shes been racking in his bins.
Ive just rang her best mate, and I said asd long as she doesnt run his over or go to his door and its all in her head its ok.
She said its too late, she went up to his door and tryed to kick it in.
My brother has paranoid schizophrenia. Even when hes ranting saying hes going to kill people they dont section him.
How can I make mum see the irrationalness of all of this?
Hes quiet....because hes listening to her. ARGH
Its not him, its her.

Hey CC i came across this forum looking for some advice on my own situation, which is remarkably like your own! i am 16 and live with my mum, and she also is extremely paranoid and the worst part is its all directed at our next door neighbour for some reason, my mum isnt the smartest of women which makes this all the more difficult because the dillusuions make very little if any sense. some examples of these are:
A Phantom Pregancy- she beleived no matter how many tests she took tht she was preganant n would not listen to anyones logic nor reason
Somehow she came to the conclusion that she had 4-5 kids includin me (me being her only child)that our nextdoor neighbour had stolen from her, and was trying to do the same with me. she has also told me that my dad isnt my dad (though i know for a fact tht he is)
and tht her "1st love" was hu she hadnt seen since she was sixteen, and then later became someone even deeper form her past.

the hardest thing is as stated many times in this thread is tht she thinks she is 100% in her right mind.
the lady next door is also really nice though and completely innocent, she even lets me use her internet n has been really understanding though my mum has gone round on mabout 3-4 occasions screamin and ranting at her.

I hate arguing with my mum but she will not listen to logic nor reason n she really gets under my skin with it sometimes.

Like u charliecat i am also looking for the vest cause of action because it is starting to effect my sleeping patterns which in term effect my college attendance wich i cannot allow.

My mum was like this just before she had a very bad attack of Mania (she's a manic depressive).
She kept saying the doctors were trying to poison her and that one of them had sexually abused her in her hospital bed!
She was so convincing the hospital were going to investigate.
Then they found out she was developing some kind of Dementia and also she had several mini strokes which means that she can't shut her mouth. It hangs open all the time.
All this started when she was 58yrs old.
Her mother my nan was always a very strong character up until one summer when she went very strange and thought the neighbour was looking at her through her hedge, so one day when we were helping her tidy her garden she just went mad with the shears and cut a great big hole in the hedge, it all went downhill from there and she died a year later she was 78yrs old .
The OP needs to get her mum assesed as it sounds like dementia or something similar is setting in.
