I think NJM's name says it all....we're not just 'Mum's - we are individuals ourselves. Whilst making sure you're a great Mum you've got to make sure you remember yourself and give time for yourself. Even if its just sitting down with a cuppa and having five minutes to yourself. Make time for yourself.

Every morning in my house its chaos. Kids up at 7am. Out the door by 8am. Yet in that hour I spend ten minutes sat on the end of our bed with my first cup of tea for the day. I don't watch the clock. I ignore all the calls for my attention. I sit and enjoy that first cup of tea because you can guarantee every cup afterwards will either be forgotten about, go cold or be re-heated a dozen times in the microwave.

I think its a great way to start my busy day. Ten minutes on my own.

Same applies to the end of the day. Kids in bed and asleep....me? in the bath enjoying my soak. It's my wind-down time. I need that after a day with kids. If I don't find time for myself to wind-down I go to bed all frustrated, mind racing, worrying etc and I don't sleep.

WR - find time for YOU too. Even if it is just a few minutes each day. Everyone is entitled to that too. xxxx

NJM - what a bloody brilliant post you did at 12:44! You've summed our lives up in those few sentences. We aren't JUST MUMS. We are lots of people all rolled into one.

The other day a Mum of one of my DDs friends came up to me to say hello and to ask my help in getting her daughter to school and home everyday because her other child was ill at home. I was glad to help and for the next 7 weeks thats what I will be doing, every day. However, she went to put my numbers in her mobile and was worried that if she put my christian name in she'd forget it and not find it so she put my DD1's name in instead...and so on that particular day I was known as 'X's Mum'....not by my own name. Good eh? I feel like I should wear a sign on my head that says 'I am X...not just X's Mum!'

thewiltedrose · 07/06/2008 12:51

Satisfaction Njm thats how i measure being sucessfull, if your heppy in your job and life then your a sucess. Sounds silly i guess.

Well if I was to base my success in life on my job/career, money, belongings etc...I'm doomed.

WR...please do not take this the wrong way but I think its time you stopped feeling sorry for yourself. You have got to help yourself and you're not going to do it by comparing yourself to others that have successful jobs/careers, lots of money and loads of lovely belongings...because whilst that's absolutely great for them it don't happen that way for everyone, me included.

Life isn't about having loads of money or simply being out of debt, life isn't about what you have or don't have, life isn't about having a career - life is about being happy and healthy - you have that and so do your kids. Enjoy it. Make the most of it. There are people far worse off than you out there I can assure you and I saw that for myself when DD did her stint in the childrens ward at Christmas. My god did my heart go out to those poor parents. xxxxx
