I think they went with prozac for me because I was on them before so knew it worked before iyswim

Flamesparrow · 03/06/2008 16:34

Just feels different somehow. More of an anxious one

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 16:35

could it be because theres actually something to be unhappy about that is happening rathrr than unhappy about everything you cant put your finger on?

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 16:41

getting into a good sleep pattern will help you

you have my sympathy, if you ride out the first few weeks, then you should get some real tangible relief and help from the meds

good luck

fiodyl · 03/06/2008 17:18

Im loving the thread title

Maybe I should start taking my pills again so I can join in too!

Im supposed to be on 20mg of Escitalopram (not sure of the difference between this and citalopram) and 5mg of Risperadone.

I always have to read the side effects and google before I will take anything new.

MyEye · 03/06/2008 17:20

Hello all. I'm on day 13 of Mirtazapine. Was on 15mg for a week, now 30.
Went on it bcs of a mad anxiety crash related to a health problem -- the anxiety ballooned waaaaay out of proportion. I have previous with PND.
I felt better as soon as I'd worked out I was 'depressed' again, iyswim, so it's hard to work out what difference the mirtazapine has made so far, but the psychiatrist said it would help me sleep (always a key factor when I get low) and was particularly good for anxiety because it stops the awful adrenalin surges, and that's certainly true.
No side effects (possibly increased appetite but then when I was crashing I lost three-quarters of a stone in a week so I'm only getting back to normal).
And I'm still a bit woozy by day but psych said that should lift after a fortnight. I feel pretty standard, actually, for now. Anxiety is definitely taking a back seat.
I'm going to try CBT, too, for when/if it comes a-calling again.

fiodyl · 03/06/2008 17:27

MyEye Ive been on Mirtazapine too-do you have the orange flavour ones that melt in your mouth? They are the only AD I actually liked taking and the only one that realy had any effect-problem was it was the wrong effect for me so I had to stop them!

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 17:28

good to hear things are looking up for you eve. How come you have two types?

OP posts:
thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 17:28

fiodyl that was aimed at for the two types lol

OP posts:
MyEye · 03/06/2008 17:29

Nope, pamphlet says in big letters: do not suck or chew.
what effect did they have on you?

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 17:40

Weariness seemed to go all of a sudden half an hour ago and i felt wide awake and then i yawned and its come back Confusing.

OP posts:
fiodyl · 03/06/2008 17:44

Only on of them is an AD the other is an Antipyshotic, but Ive not taken them for about 3 months now as I didnt think they were doing any good and I was sick of seeing the doctor all the time.

The effect of Mirtazapine n me was that the anti-anxiety part worked too well- An example(not something I actually did) Being anxious about people looking at you as u walk down the street. It should just stop you being anxious about ppl looking at u but for me it would be that I would run down the street naked not caring who saw. Hope this makes sense- it worked but was to extreme in my case.

Surfermum · 03/06/2008 17:45

I think my biggest piece of advice would be not to expect an overnight cure. Especially if you've been down for a while. Try not to look at it day by day as the improvement might be so small you may not notice. I found that if I thought about it daily I'd just think "I'm just stuck, I'm always going to feel like this ". But if I tried not to think about it but when I did looked back to how I'd been a week earlier there was always an improvement.

And it was a good 3-4 weeks of taking tablets before I noticed a difference, and a good few weeks after that that I really felt better.

As for tension - I used to put a red dot on a post-it note and stick it somewhere that I would notice it. Every time I saw it I would check my posture - jaw clenching, shoulder hunching etc and relax myself.

If your local GP does relaxation courses or can refer you for one go - that too was a big help. Or a meditation tape. I had no idea how much I was tensing my whole body until I was taught how to relax it.

Hang on in there both of you, things do get better .

Oh and Flame I will try and get your reading done I promise!

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 17:49

Thanks surfer ill bear that in mind. Im not expecting a miricle just hoping by jotting down everything i feel heh maybe ill come across somrthing important kind of like self analysing iykwim?

OP posts:
MyEye · 03/06/2008 17:52

just thought I'd post two books which my psychiatrist said could be helpful...

Malignant Sadness by Lewis Wolpert (she did say not to get hung up on the title )

and Feeling Good by David Burns which is a selfhelpy introductory manual to CBT -- if you're minded that way

I also really liked Sunbathing in the Rain by Gwyneth Lewis

When I get stuck down low, I always want to read/learn about depression it helps me get a grip on it but maybe not everyone feels like this.

hth.

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 17:58

thanks myeye when i have some spare money ill think about checking one out it could help
