Recovering from breakdown

Does anyone have any experience of this?
I thought I'd had a nervous breakdown in my 20s but carried on working. This time I'm knocked out. I got up at 8 and need a nap already!

@TheBuggerlugs I'm on 60mg of an old tricyclic called clomipramine. I've been on it for a very long time but had been well for the last 12 years after reducing down to 25mg.

(I do have some diazepam for emergencies.)

EmmaEmerald · 04/09/2023 00:06

kizziee sorry to hear re the intrusive thoughts.

Re change of meds, we initially upped the dose of what I was on but it clearly wasn't working. When I decided to switch to a new one, there were various ways if doing it. I chose the option that will possibly be the hardest but will hopefully get me better faster.

Do you need to taper off your current one before trying a new one? do you need to leave a gap like I did?

I have been taking my new one for two days now, so far, no problems. But tomorrow morning I have a seminar so I'm going to take it in the afternoon when I get back. Sod's law I'll get stomach issues from the third pill!

Hoping for a good night's sleep before the seminar...haven't even looked up directions yet!

Hi everyone- not posted here for a long time but have been keeping up with the thread and have been so pleased to hear how well u have all been doing. 💐
after feeling like I was slowly getting better for the last couple of weeks, I’ve had a wobbly couple of days. Anxiety getting high again and crying feeling hopeless. Not as bad as a few weeks ago when I was out of it, but really don’t want these feeling coming back again. I’m seeing the doctor next Tuesday for a review of meds, I’m wondering if it might be worth trying to bring my appointment forward or if I should wait it out and hope it’s just a blip? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. X

Thanks for replying Thebuggerlugs. I’m on 50mg setraline. Started on 18th August. I am eating but can feel myself getting to the stage again where I don’t want to and am making myself eat little bits throughout the day. Sleep is becoming a problem again, think I had about 3 or 4 hours last night where as I have been getting a good 6 for about a week. When I was poorly I was literally awake all night.

Yes I think I need a higher dose. I’m not sure whether to wait til next Tuesday or try and get in sooner. I’m worried they will tell me I haven’t given it long enough. I didn’t particularly like the GP I’m seeing either. She wasn’t very sympathetic at all.

EmmaEmerald · 04/09/2023 15:39

Jen I'd ask for the higher dose asap. Just my two pence worth.

day three of meds - I do think there's a side effect - completely itchy everywhere. I hadn't linked it up. Having to take two antihistamine a day.

but - this happens to me periodically. It does appear to raise histamine levels though.

TheBuggerLugs good that you are not going back to work yet, I think? Great that you feel more yourself.

I enjoyed this morning's seminar but that's my brain done for the day.

so do you have experience of this itchy thing with meds?

@TheBuggerlugs I had 11 weeks off earlier in the year and then went back on a staggered return. I also have a stressful busy job and have really needed to pace myself. I found it a real challenge to go back but have tried to put mitigations in place.

My anxiety was really uncomfortable again today. I really need to consider a switch but we have some significant family illness and I need to try and keep functioning. (I have had real problems switching in the past - I think I'm very sensitive to the medications and any changes.)
Seeing the Dr this week to discuss further.

kizziee · 04/09/2023 20:18

Could we just do a quick recap of what medication everyone is on ?

I'm on 60mg of a tricyclic : clomipramine

60mg fluoxetine and 25mg quetiapine

kizziee · 05/09/2023 00:14

Thank you both. I think it's really interesting to see the range of different medications

Ilovedogs1 · 05/09/2023 08:27

Tbh I'm not sure how much the meds do. Sometimes I think you just naturally improve with time. I've been on 5 different meds over the years and I've probably had 3 or 4 serious episodes. If I look back there is usually a reason why I crashed at the time.

Ilovedogs1 · 05/09/2023 08:29

@TheBuggerlugs how are you feeling with your upcoming wedding? Are you finding it stressful or a good distraction?

Regarding meds has anyone watched the panorama documentary on antidepressants. I haven't yet but it's supposed to be an interesting watch. Think it's on catch up.

EmmaEmerald · 05/09/2023 10:58

I'm trying 5mg of vortioxetine, day 4 now

also taking 2mg diazepam to sleep but my body is getting used to it

I think getting back into exercise is key for me now.

I say this tentatively but last few days I've started to feel better. Oddly this scares me because I've felt so bad for so long. Don't get me wrong I still feel anxious but better than I did but it doesn't feel right . Does anyone else know what I mean?
