19 hour fast

Overnight oats
Cottage cheese crackers
Quiche, roasted veg, oven chips and salad to come

Ilikeyoursleeves · 31/12/2024 18:35

@greengreyblue I normally eat so much crap in the evenings though (as in a whole family bag of crisps, choc etc) so I find if I cut that out, and don't have a breakfast either, it gradually shifts the weight. I'm going to start making smoothies again and aim to reduce the amount of ultra processed stuff I eat. Will see how it goes!

Ilikeyoursleeves · 31/12/2024 18:38

Also having a night off fasting seeing as it's Hogmanay- we have a whole load of snacks in!

I like your style!

Also totally with you on the family bag of crisps

jumpintheline · 31/12/2024 21:52

16 hour fast. Had a bit of leftover baked potato and pasta for lunch. Made myself prawn spinach linguine for dinner. One cocktail and one glass of wine! A carb heavy day… but I did go for a run this morning.

Happy New year all!

greengreyblue · 01/01/2025 13:56

Not eaten yet. Cooking a roast and using up all the leftover stuffing and cranberry that i’d frozen . Warm mince pie and ice cream for pud.

OP posts:
greengreyblue · 01/01/2025 14:24

Will be an OMAD though, albeit with some wine!

Happy New Year all!

So I had a bit of a Pringles and crisps fest til the bells last night so started fasting at 1150pm 😳... managed 14 hour fast and then had a bacon sandwich and some shortbread 😳😳😳🤣 I did have a pear too though and have been on a NY walk so it's not all bad! I weighed myself and I'm a whole 1.2lb heavier compared to yest?! Can't all be Pringles surely, hoping it's just normal weight fluctuations and my period started yest too. Going to the in laws for a late dinner tonight so fasting will be messed up again. Aiming to start properly from tomo

greengreyblue · 01/01/2025 15:03

Will be water weight most probs after carbs and salt. Back to strict 18:6 tomorrow.

Happy new year everyone! I have been back in to my normal routine since Monday although finding myself reaching for chocolate slightly more than usual. Won’t be buying anymore once all the Xmas goodies are depleted. Had some picky tapas bits from M&S for dinner last night once we got back from the pub and dropped DC’s to their respective NYE parties. We were in bed by midnight.

DH and I are going to watch Nosferato early evening and DH has just told me that he purchased some kind of pizza + side deal when booking our seats so that will be our dinner.

Any resolutions for the NY? I have been reading one of the other threads in Fasting about doing 36 hour fasts. Currently pondering what the benefits of this are. I am at my target weight now so not necessarily looking to lose anymore. Not even sure if it’s feasible for me to do when I’m working as I have pretty rigid break/lunch times. Has anyone else done or considered it?

Ilikeyoursleeves · 01/01/2025 15:54

36 hour fasts sounds quite like madness and maybe even dangerous?? I would quite like to see if I can do a 24 hour fast just out of interest though, the max I've done so far is 19 hours. I have low blood pressure though and would prob faint if I tried any longer than that! Are there health benefits other than weight loss?

greengreyblue · 01/01/2025 16:55

Blood pressure is not really affected by eating. Must make sure you’re hydrated though. Haven’t done. More than 24 hrs. Felt a bit weird at that point. I’ve heard it can be good occasionally but I’d be worried about getting all the nutrients I need.

OP posts:
Cashew1 · 01/01/2025 17:23

19 hour fast

Falafel salad with bread
Veg chilli with rice later

And a long walk (in the rain!)

Gym tomorrow and feeling good!

jumpintheline · 01/01/2025 19:32

I’ve done 24 hours a few times and found that fine. Don’t think I’d go longer really. Dr Mindy Peltz advocates for longer!

still on festive eating but still regular fasting here! It’s nice going into the new year with this as an established way of eating; rather than a new fad.

Rollergirl11 · 01/01/2025 20:41

Yes agree ref potential loss of nutrients. There are some posters on that thread talking about doing 2 x 36 hour fasts per week so the equivalent of 3 days not eating. I have to say it makes me feel rather uneasy as think there’s a fine line where that level of restricting could very easily tip in to disordered eating.

greengreyblue · 02/01/2025 09:41

I agree. Would need to be careful. I think if you’ve stones to lose it’s something that they do in weight loss clinics but it’s heavily supervised. Dr Jason Fung says the calories are on the body so you just take it from there but I’d be more wary as I’m not overweight.
Had a lovely roast dinner yesterday at about 3pm as it felt like a Sunday. Did OMAD. I’m still hovering around 61kg so am happy with that as only 0.5 kg over target. As you say @jumpintheline i feel established in this way of eating and if we can get through Christmas with minimal gain or none at all that’s a win!

OP posts:
GameOfJones · 02/01/2025 12:59

The longest I have gone is 27 hours which I've done a few times. Essentially that is doing OMAD but with a slightly later dinner. I do think at that point it's felt reasonably easy and that I could go to 36 hours but I haven't as I haven't decided whether that is sensible occasionally or not!

A 16 hour fast today easing me back into routine.

Lunch has been bran flakes, skimmed milk and chopped banana

Dinner will be some homemade fresh pasta as I have pasta dough in the freezer. I'm planning on cooking a sauce with plenty of vegetables and some walnuts.

Ilikeyoursleeves · 02/01/2025 13:24

Was out last night for NY dinner and ate absolutely loads, finished at 9pm so I've just done a 16 hour fast. Breaking it with the leftover Christmas cheese and biscuits and grapes. Not the healthiest lunch but v tasty and I'm now going for a big walk!

greengreyblue · 02/01/2025 13:25

I managed 20 hrs today.
lunch: salad of spinach and other leaves, a boiled egg, grated carrot, radishes, tomatoes, sprinkle of nuts and seeds and a tbsp of light mayo. An apple and a pear.
Dinner will be chicken skewers with bulgur wheat and roasted veg/ feta.

Can anyone recommend a free super simple app for fasting. I don't want food advice. I want it to show when I'm stopping and starting how much longer I have to go and to chart my weight loss. I keep downloading them - zero, fastic, simple - only to discover I have to pay!

Ilikeyoursleeves · 03/01/2025 08:07

I use Fastic and tt's free?? I really like it, I think there's pay options but I just use the free version and it's fab

Cashew1 · 03/01/2025 09:01

18.5 hour fast yday

Lunch: porridge
Snack: cottage cheese
Dinner: quiche, salad, leftover Xmas cheese and crackers

Started weighing again tentatively and have maintained mostly so will try a bit harder in Jan for a loss.

The chest infection in December stalled my progress and put me at a steady 11st as didn't fast for a couple of weeks.

Think will go with a Friday weigh in if anyone wants to join?

Height 173cm
SW 11st 6
CW 11st
TW 10st 3 (ideally 10 for a bit of a buffer!)

I use one called "Fasting Tracker" the logo is a fork. It's free and while it has ads there is not much else in the way
